I've also really decided to temper my expectations for what or who might be in it. I'm not watching any follow up videos or speculation videos because I honestly felt like they ended up hindering my enjoyment of WandaVision.

I doubt following up WandaVision was on their minds seeing as this was intended to release first.

I would imagine that they intended to lead off with something more conventional in Falcon and Winter Soldier before testing the waters with something more experimental in WandaVision but then it didn't work out that way (and it didn't matter). I could be wrong though!

I said it all throughout the Wandavision topic, trying to squash some expectations, but people don't seem to realize that Marvel is doing everything in their power to appeal to the masses. That's not a negative thing btw - I actually believe it's part of what makes their universe so great. They've really mastered the art of making really fun popcorn flicks while having just barely enough to let the more dialed in fans sink their teeth into it... but at the end of the day, the villain is going to be the obvious villain, no one who is dead will actually stay dead (except for someone like RDJ unless he wants to cash in on a paycheck later in life), etc.

The wandavision speculation got so out of control for a second there if you went to any marvel forum or topic as people started crazy speculation to tie it into the comics and the multiverse and who the actual villain was, etc. No. Stop. These are meant to be easily digestible money makers >_>

that's why I'm actually really excited for Falcon and Winter Soldier because if they just deliver on Winter Soldier punching people through walls while saying one liners to Falcon, what more can I ask for

I don't know if I'm in the minority with this, but I'm more excited to see more of Zemo and Sharon Carter than I am Falcon and Winter Soldier. I love both those characters and got emotional watching Sharon Carter's recap episode of Legends.

Aside from any concerns of digestibility, I thought a lot of the speculation was silly because it just wouldnt suit the show very well. Its like people were hoping for a bunch of random appearances to set up other future stuff regardless of whether or not that would actually suit the story the show itself was trying to tell.

Honestly the show was kind of at odds with itself for the story it wanted to tell. It wanted to do a character study but also do "mystery box" storytelling. And then nothing was in the box! Teasing mysteries we already knew the answers to was a weird decision.

Watchmen and The Boys are great. I also like Umbrella Academy but I admit it's not necessarily a great show, but pretty entertaining for what it is.

I've found the Marvel Netflix stuff to be both not great shows as well as not that entertaining. Never bothered past the first half of the first season of Agents of Shield, but that's more of a "I've outgrown that model of television" where it's these super long seasons with tons of filler made to pad out a major networks primetime slot for as long as possible.

Doom Patrol is a top tier superhero show

Not really interested in this one. I might be in the minority who thought the last few episodes of Wanda vision were the worst. Once the mystery was gone it felt kind of generic superhero.

Especially if you like Umbrella Academy, I would check out Doom Patrol. They play around with similar concepts while still being distinct. Gerard Way even wrote for both; Doom Patrol was one of his influences in making comics and he went on to write some of the DP comics the show is based on.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 1 is up.

It really bothers me that Sam doesn't wear a helmet or any kind of thing to protect his head. Like a dozen guys fire guns at him during that opening action scene and it's like, "Well it's a good thing they always aim at the parts of his body he can cover easily". Actually, he probably should wear on in general zooming around all over the place like that.

I REALLY disliked the shaky cam on the flying scenes. I get they're trying to make it look more realistic, but it kind of has the opposite effect. It's so distracting.

I was not expecting Rhodey to appear. Was that listed in the cast beforehand? Must have missed it.

I had been wondering if Bucky had anything to do with that old man's son dying, and when they showed his picture that definitely was a "Oh shit" moment.

The opening action scene was my least favorite part of the episode and it's weird to go on reddit and seeing some of the top posts be people praising it and comparing it to MCU films. The shaky cam was clearly to hide the budget and the less than stellar cgi. It wasn't bad, but it definitely didn't have the production value of the films, or even the end of Wandavision. The Bucky fight at least was really good but that's obviously because it was very practical and not green screen/cgi.

Bucky obviously killed his son as soon as the old man mentioned it in the restaurant >_>

The actor who plays the soldier helping Falcon is not great at acting.

I know I'm picking nits but I really enjoyed it! I was hype for some ridiculous over the top action but I found the character stuff to be by far the best parts. Bucky on a date and dealing with his past/Falcon dealing with being gone from his family for so long that they're in financial ruin was really compelling.

I enjoyed this episode, I'll echo the sentiment about the character expositions being the best parts. I am really hoping that this series does for F and WS what WandaVision did for it's namesake and turns these into characters that are really cared about.

They didn't hand waive it, they didn't concoct a bullshit, "YAY WE"RE BACK WE"RE ALL GOOD AGAIN." Endgame dealt with it a little bit, but these two shows build on the proper, "How do those who were and were not snapped get back to normal? What even IS normal? My family is either older or gone or in financial debt now...this sucks." Much more so the fantastical superhero bullshit they deal with.

Honestly, I actually really agree with that. It gives the world building a little something extra and creates a more immersive environment.

Yeah that's because they're television series. Don't expect the films to do anything but hand wave it away ie Far From Home

Yeah. The post-blip dynamics are incredibly interesting, and they're what really justify the concept of the shared universe. If it was only "we're going to have all these separate stories that have a ton of cameos and references" (which to be fair, is kind of the bulk of it) it wouldn't matter as much. But actually seeing consequences and the fallout from previous movies is compelling.

I love post-Blip stuff. That scene of Monica coming back was maybe the highlight of Wandavison.

Its cool that the MCU has this big event which can give its stories an interesting angle totally independent of the comics.

Loved the backstory we got on these two characters, especially Sam who really needs character development if he's going to fill Steve's role in the franchise. Definitely has a Winter Soldier feel to it.
