Do they not care? Is the journey more important than the end?

Some shows need to preview what's to come to keep the interest up during the boring intro/setup episodes.

I always thought that was funny, in the start of the episode they would say "Will this character live? Find out soon!", then the episode title is "(character) DIES" <_<

Animes are often manga adaptations.

As a result, intros are used to build hype for what manga readers know already.

You know, there's a very funny application of this trope in Super Sentai, lol.

In one particular series, there's an episode early on called "Character Dies!" But it's just a fake out. But, the character actually does die at the end of the show lmao.

I'm watching it again from episode 50 something. And yeah, only two of them didn't spoil anything. The first one and one other. :l

Come to think of it, JoJo openings are usually pretty good at spoiling things in a way that are only actually spoilers if you already know the story.

Well, maybe Last Train Home is a little too obvious if you know anything about ancient Egyptian culture, but thats technically an ending >_>

Madoka had such a great OP.
Basically everything that happens in it is in the original timeline, which is why it plays at the end of Homura's origin episode. So it's spoilers but only when you realize what the hell is happening.

Also just noticed how little Sora is in the OP despite being the whole setup to Academia and the best duel in the franchise

Honestly Declan was my favorite rival because of his growth and how important he was to everything working out. Like, Joey's a bro, but Declan can come up with a damn good plan to help you way more.

He's definitely the most intimidating rival imo, he had that great moment in ep50 where Yuya challenges him over the morality of his actions and Reiji just bodies him and goes "you wanna do it your way, get stronger. We're at war here"

Also remember him getting into a duel with like 15 academia members and destroying all their cards at once in a panning shot

For sure. He may not be "jump off a cliff so kaiba corp goons can't point their fingers at you because guns are bad" levels of badass like Kaiba, but what can you do.
