Third raid spoilers

you probably noticed you had the echo. That raid used to mess with people so hardcore (primarily cid) that people would instantly eat the thirty minute penalty upon entering rather than risk getting stuck with crap groups

Yeah the third Ivalice raid is way beyond any other single raid in the game. It's pretty great! Definitely wiped a couple times on Cid.

Oh, lol.

I mean Group C looked liked they were having some trouble but they held on. If they were all buffed and still sitting at 5 people alive low health for most of the fight then yeesh.

But we never wiped once. We almost wiped on the first Mustadio Snipe but there were 2 healers left raid wide and they pulled it back together.

like the past 3 times i've run it, i've had to run over stand on some pads with group c since they literally didn't have enough people alive to resolve the mechanic

What do I do with spiritbonded junk armor I can't sell anymore? Just dump it?

you can either dump it, or turn it in to your grand company for company seals. I personally dump it, but you can trade in the company seals for random things that are useful (like cordials iirc)

if the spirit bond is 100% though, you can go ahead and retrieve a materia from it for free. problem is, you'll just discard said materia since its going to be <= level 6

It's my personal pet theory that they diverted budget to the third Ivalice raid. There's so much love and care (and visuals) put into it that it makes the Stormblood extra trials and 8-man raids look paltry by comparison. In terms of aesthetic, mechanics, and just plain hype factor, Orlandu and Ultima are absolutely top class, and the two fights before them are no slouches either.

Supporting my theory is that literally every major head of the development team is a massive, self-professed FFT fanboy/girl.

It's probably not a budgetary thing, but just a side effect of having the Shin Megami Tensei IV character designer working on the monster designs and aesthetics, and Matsuno also being there to direct. Also there's some similar attention to detail in the 8-man raids, but they made most of it exclusive to Savage.

Trading in for seals is way more useful than selling btw

You definitely want to buy some ventures with company seals and level up your retainers. They eventually bring you back some pretty good stuff.

Cleaned up all the extra stuff from what I can tell, other than duties I've gotta queue for.

I after the degrading quality of the last two Hildibrand quests (not that they weren't still GOOD), I can definitely see why they felt the need to justify taking a break from it for Shadowbringers, based on what you guess were saying a while back.

Now finally time to hit these supposedly awful MSQ patches!

How much you like them will probably depend on your feelings about a couple characters! There are people who like them out there. We'll see which side you end up on there.

I don't think it was a scene meant to make you 'side' with anyone, really. Just giving you more perspective so you can understand her lot in life better. Whether or not that naturally leads into sympathy is up to each individual player.

I personally like Fordola but I do think part of why she's good is the game doesn't expect you to like her. Fordola is kinda unique for a villain arc in this game in that she (and others) actually struggle with the consequences of her actions instead of handwaving them away (for example Nero who I love and will protect but also was basically a Nazi scientist).

Fordola is the worst character

Fordola is the best of the Stormblood villains by a lot (but mostly because of 4.1).

It's astounding that (4.2 and 4.3 spoilers) Asahi is somehow even lamer than Zenos and Yotsuyu, though I guess it was kind of intentional at least?

Been telling myself I'll start playing again once I find my authenticator, but it's been like 6 months since I've seen it so I may crack and just remove it from my account. Made the mistake of listening to some of the soundtrack while working and now I pretty much have to play.

Hoping to get caught up before the next xpac, but only towards the end of HW content so that might be a bit of a stretch.

Finally finished Alexander.

While the content is good, I really really do not like the structure of having to queue 12 times and getting dumped back to the relevant area after every encounter.

That will forever be the thing I miss most between FF14 and WoW raiding. It gets even worse after Alexander when they stop even trying to set the fights in interesting environments and make every fight take place on a platform floating in space

I vastly prefer it as FF14 does it and it isn't even close. It lets you just do what you want to do when you want to do it instead of forcing you to commit to doing it in a certain order for a certain length of time.

Trash mobs are a waste. I don't like dungeon roulettes. Give me a boss and let me be done with it.

Ignored my better judgment and triggered the trip to 3.0s final area right before work. Managed to avoid being late only by keeping one eye on the living room TV while logging in from the next room over. Fortunately the scene ended just before I needed to be in the phones and I was able to properly log out.

I don't think FF14 has any outright bad characters. Even the ones with writing issues have something to offer.

Spoilers for everything up until 5.0:

The closest to 'bad characters' would be the Ascians in ARR/Heavensward, who are slightly below the standard set by Saturday morning cartoon villains. It's hilarious how much of a goober Lahabrea is in comparison to Emet-Selch.

Outside of them, Ran'jit is the closest I can think of. He's basically Shadowbringers' version of Zenos (who was already questionable) except worse, and he really stands out considering how good Shadowbringers is at writing...everyone else, really. They had a potentially interesting motivation with him being traumatized by the repeated deaths of the Minfillias he had to raise, but they don't explore it enough. His power scaling also varies wildly according to what the plot demands - he went from beating five named characters including the WoL in his intro, to being soloed by Thancred in a fair fight. Even with all that, though, he has a good design and a good voice and Thancred getting his big hero moment was actually pretty great so hey.

People seem to have problems with Atsuhi and Yotsuyu and I'm not sure why. Atsuhi is a loathsome shitheel, which is fine. He's supposed to be an Algus/Joffrey type character and he does it well. Yotsuyu is also a loathsome fuckup but again that's fine - her story acts as a nice foil to Fordola's. Both are given second chances, and one of them is able to reinvent themselves while the other fails to move past their childhood trauma (partially because Yotsuyu's was WAY WORSE) and pays the price as a result.

The worst character in this game is that fucking Wineport Lalafel because there have been multiple instances now of terrible questlines where I have to go back and forth to him over and over and over again.
