Like, using E5S as an example, Maybe something like using leg/foot graze to heavy/bind the bird to make the section easier for the OT? Probably not the best example since thats not exactly hard, i'm just thinking of things to make the fight 'easier' while not being 'required'

Technically you can use heavy graze on an add in e9s this tier it's just that you can already give it heavy though a different method, and also just kill the add.

Slashing and Piercing debuff were broken from a game design and individual job balance perspective. I'm talking more about roles. Ranged used to help manage the party's MP and TP but they deleted TP and decided each individual caster is in charge of their own MP. Palisade was kinda neat too, a free tank cooldown.

I at least want my Refresh back for when the healers eat shit with all their MP regen on cooldown!

Yeah the MP/TP management kind of stuff you're mentioning is stuff I hated. Relying on an ally to keep your resources up so you can use your moves felt awful - I shouldn't have to hope the Ninja remembers to use Goad in order for me to be able to keep pressing buttons. Something like Palisade is better though.

I dont actually think TP was good (especially since some classes like Paladin were just worse at it for no reason), I do think the MP management stuff was though. Mana Shift on casters was neat too.

Fought Bismarck this morning. Definitely enjoying the story ramp-up as I near the end of the HW MSQ. Almost missed my queue popping though; it hit right as I teleported to Limsa for some shopping and I wasnt sure loading would finish before the countdown did. Definitely looking forward to not having to worry about that when I eventually get a PS5, rare as it might be for that to happen.

Six-sided star is a really niche ability now (just as it was before) meant to be a huge potency burst done right before something that forces downtime -- a big point-blank we have to run out of, a puddle we need to drop, an intermission phase, that kind of thing. The added movement speed helps you get where you need to go after you hit it. It's not crucial to remember, but it is nice when you can pull it off at the right moment.

I took Dancer to 63 in about 4-5 hours, does that seem like a typical pace with the Armory Bonus? Leveling queue did not actually seem to be giving all the much after a few runs, does it degrade?

Also, getting a low level dungeon as Dancer in roulettes suuuucks. Definitely not as fun with all your procs gutted, God forbid if the dungeon is so low you don't even get feathers.

for each roulette, you'll notice that theres a checkmark for 'daily bonus' (or daily reward, whatever verbage they use) - that bonus is the biggest chunk of exp everyone takes about when they say do your daily roulette. After your first of the day, if you're going to do a dungeon, you'll want to queue for the highest level one you can.

Getting low-level dungeons as Dancer is great actually because they are not at all balanced around dancer having a 1000 potency attack and you just annihilate things.

Plus, I don't know if you've noticed, but for most 2.0 leveling dungeons, melee dps do not have access to aoe attacks at all. Most have to wait until level 30-40. So they end up going much faster than they should when a ranged or caster is in the party.

Sounds quite fast to me actually given that you were not, in fact, getting a bonus past your first roulette of the day...!

Yeah sidequests are not a good value for your time, unless you're doing them while queuing for something and out of beast tribes or whatever. Even then FATEs are probably better.

If you're through Ruby Sea you should have access to Heaven-on-High, which depending on how the queue times are for the highest floor is the 61-70 equivalent to spamming Palace of the Dead. It might be a little depopulated by now, I don't actually know. If the queue is about the same as the highest level dungeon you have, the dungeon should be better.

You get applicants from completing challenge log stuff, but you'd almost certainly accidentally do that now and then; I wonder if you haven't actually fully unlocked it?

Squadrons are pretty fast leveling (below level 60) once you've trained up your squad members' tactics (which can randomly be upgraded upon completing a dungeon with that squad member). Specifically you want your healers and dps to use offensive tactics, which at level 5 gives them +60% dps. For tanks some people prefer defensive, but I make them offensive as well.

You actually need to clear floor 50 of Palace of the Dead before you can unlock HoH (queues are still fine for it during the day, at least on Primal)

Leveling Summoner now, up to Level 64. The AoE rotation is both fun and frustrating. If the mobs take a decent amount of time to die then you can rack up damage like nobody's business, but if they die quickly you do like 1/3 of your max potential. Really like the way it plays against bosses though.

I've leveled like 90% on SCH and I still am extremely confused about how SMN is supposed to work

I think the main thing that melts my brain is that there are several instant GCDs so I can't keep track of what's a GCD and what's an oGCD/effectively set up the right number of weave windows

Probably doesn't help that the egi assaults used to be oGCDs but were changed to be instant GCDs, and Trances reduce cast times to make Ruin 3 instant lol.

I'll be honest I've kept SMN at cap for most of my FF14 experience since my main healer is SCH, but I've barely touched it. I looked into it a little after 5.1 and it seems to be in a pretty good spot now. It feels a lot like Bard, actually, with dots and 30(ish) second mini-phases but also with way too many buttons.

Summoner is probably my least favorite DPS so I'm by no means an expert, but the general gist is that you have some oGCDs that don't need to be used immediately (Fester, Summon Bahamut, Enkindle Bahamut / Revelation) and some that do (Tri-Disaster, Energy Drain, Dreadwyrm Trance), plus several instant cast GCDs that don't need to be used immediately (Ruin IV, Egi Assaults), so you time your instant GCDs around the oGCDs that need to be used immediately and weave in one of your less urgent oGCDs at the same time to maximize the efficiency (plus the free instant casts you get during Trance)

Tri-disaster you don't exactly use on cooldown - the trances reset its timer so the idea is you use it at the end of your dot timer while working around the free resets. It works out to something like, for a 2-minute cycle you get 3 Tri-disasters and only have to hardcast dots once? But it's okay to sit on unless you're about to go into a trance. I don't recall the exact details however.

Well first of all you can turn the egis into carbuncles, huge improvement. Second of all yeah it's all build around big Bahamut and Phoenix burst phases now so it feels more like a big summon job.

Now that I'm picking a dance partner, starting to notice something....a LOT of people play Dancer. That Sri Lanka fight was exclusively Dancers for DPS, all 4 of us.

I also did Doma Caatle last night and would like to declare the people bashing Stormblood to be wrong. Great dungeon. Looking forward to LtM just blitzing past me since we are now at the same point.

This is the worst part of playing Dancer tbqh. Also if people are just bad. I had to stop playing it casually in dungeons because if the other DPS sucks I get even more punished, and it made me too mad.

Doma Castle is fantastic, and I still say the characters are great (especially Gosetsu), so it makes it easy to forget how mediocre the actual plot is when you aren't on the Steppe.

At least the patchquests make it better!
