Moonstars vs Buccaneers

I would not want to be bucs LF Damien Rush right now. Boy this game had drama. Both teams' aces were on the mound and it showed, as both teams logged 0 runs...until the fateful 7th inning. With 1 out and a man at 2nd, the moonstars lined a drive to left field towards Rush. Now he wasn't catching this ball for an out anyway but just grabbing it would've stopped the runner at 3rd. Instead, it bounces right past him, he's literally right in front of the ball, and as a result 2 runs score.

BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! In the bottom of the 9th, with 2 outs, you can't get more pressure than this, Bucs player Bobby Bashe hits a 2 run homer to tie it! EXTRAS.

Both teams fail to score in the 10th, and in the 11th the Moonstars bust it open, getting a solo homer to take the lead and a 2 out 2 rbi double to make it a 5-2 lead, to which the bucs were unable to respond.

Moonstars - 5
Buccaneers - 2

Okay so I updated the runs diff sheet, so here is a breakdown of our playoff chase. Keep in mind not everyone has played the same amt of games as of yet but will end up with 16 for everyone, and it's the top 2 from each div.

SUPER DIVISION:
Star Wars: 9-5 (-4)
Emerald Snax: 8-5 (+1)
Platypi: 7-6 (+16)
X-Men: 8-7 (+5)
Beewolves: 5-8 (-12)
Hedgehogs: 4-9 (+3)

MEGA DIVISION:
Blowfish: 8-5 (+49!)
Buccaneers: 8-6 (+5)
Moonstars: 8-6 (-6)
Orange Army: 7-6 (0)
Bulbasaurs: 6-8 (-7)
Moose: 4-10 (-42!)

The Moose, Hedgehogs, and Beewolves have all long been eliminated. The Bulbasaurs are on extremely thin ice, requiring to win their final 2 games, have the bucs and moonstars lose their final 2 and lose by enough to make up the runs, and have OA lose at least 2 of their final 3 with the same stipulation. Other than that, no one has clinched.

My predix:
Star Wars and Platypi
Blowfish and Buccaneers

It's still a tight race though, 8 teams could still range anywhere from tops in the div to missing out completely. Should be interesting!

Yeah I mean, it's weird cause your average is probably close to about average for the league, just...runners in scoring position haven't been brought home. The real drag for you has been the pitching though, the most ER in the league. And I don't think your pitchers are bad ratings-wise, I think they've just underperformed for whatever reason. I definitely think you've been the unluckiest team this season just going on stats and how they add up.

Platypi vs Emerald Snax
A crucial division matchup, the platypi poured it on early with a homer in the 1st, 2 runs in the 2nd, and another homer in the 3rd. After that though, the Snax pitcher calmed down and blanked them the rest of the way. Unfortunately the damage was done, as they only managed 2 runs of their own. They did make it interesting in the 9th however, with a leadoff hit and another hit with 1 out, but pinch hitter extraordinaire Chilly Nilly double played to end the game.

Star Wars vs Hedgehogs
The first place vs the last place teams, what could go wrong? Well, the Star Wars took the lead in the first inning...and then never had it again, as the Hedgehogs took it back in the 1st 2-1, then piled on big hit after big hit throughout the game while somehow hitting 0 homers. By the 7th, it was 5-1, and while star wars got a 2 run homer to cut the lead to 2, the Hedgehogs ended up scoring 3 more over the rest of the game.

Star Wars - 3
Hedgehogs - 8

Star Wars poor run differential means the top 4 teams in that division are all still within striking distance. Emerald Snax and Platypi have 2 games left each and x-men/star wars have 1. We could realistically have a 4-way tie depending on scheduling at the end of the season!

Moose vs Orange Army
An epic game with an unsatisfying ending. Both teams got 2 runs in the 3rd and then went scoreless until the 9th, when the moose launched a 2 run homer only for the OA to tie it back up with 2 outs! Then in the 11th, with 1 out and runners on the corners, a blooper single was reachable by the Moose left fielder who slid for the catch...and muffed it, to allow the Orange Army run to score and end the game.

As expected between pitching experts and defensive specialists, this was a low-scoring affair. Both teams got a run in the 2nd, and then the Moonstars hit what would end up being the deciding home run in the 4th to take a 2-1 lead and win. Stars P Woodrow went the full 9 innings.

The x-men got out to a strong start, logging 4 runs in 3 innings while blanking the hedgehogs. The hedgehogs got 2 back in 4-5 but the x-men extended their lead with 3 more runs in the 5th. The hedgehogs did make it interesting near the end, with 3 in the 7th and getting the tying run to the plate in the 9th, but they couldn't seal the deal.

The bucs started off with a leadoff homer and 3 more runs in the 2nd, but the moose got 4 runs of their own in the 2nd as well. From there though, the bucs were just a bit too strong and stayed 1-2 runs ahead consistently.

Moose - 8
Buccaneers - 10

With the bucs and moonstars each sitting at 10-6, the Orange Army at 8-7 with 1 game left have been eliminated. The bucs have clinched a spot with a +9 RD. If the Blowfish win their final 2 games, it will be them and the bucs in the Mega division. If they lose at least 1, it will be the bucs and the moonstars.

Platypi vs Beewolves
This is it for the Platypi, if they lose by like...however many I said before, 11+ or something, they're out and the x-men are in.

It was a scoreless game until the 4th, then it turned into a back and forth affair that I honestly didn't see any of because I had to run to the office while the game was going. But it did go to extras where the beewolves clinched not-last in their div by hitting a 3 run homer in the 10th to nab the win.

Ooookay! Time to hand out some awards! We'll be going over the tops at each stat I kept track of, as well as my opinion on some more general awards, and I'll also post the total leaderboard in the stat categories afterwards!

On-base %
To nobody's surprise, a blowfish player takes top honors in this category: Estelle Costanza with a .493 OBP!

Steals
The aptly named Damien Rush of the Buccaneers logged 7 steals this season, 2 more than the next highest people!

Home Runs
We have a 3-way tie here at 10 dingers each! Hammer Longballo of the Bucs, Frank Costanza of the Blowfish, and Scooter Sandbrick of the Platypi!

Runs Batted In
The aforementioned Frank Costanza edges out teammate Estelle Costanza with 24 RBI in 16 games!

Earned Runs Average (Starters only)
For anyone not familiar with the sport, ERA is the average amount of runs a pitcher allowed normalized over 9 innings. And holy crap we had all 5 of our top 5 in this category log what would be considered HOF good if they did this over a full season. Leading the way though is Rouge Bat of the Hedgehogs with a microscopic 1.24 ERA.

Walks + Hits per Inning Pitched
He took 2nd place with a lot more IP than Rouge in the ERA category, but he proves his dominance here with a .54 WHIP, 19 points above 2nd place!

Strikeouts
The Moose get something positive out of the season, as their P Rhiannon Cannon led the league with 24 punchouts!

Star Player Points
This is a bit of a different system than standard stats. At the end of every game, 3 players are awarded a 1, 2, and 3 star rating for their performance. Think stars from hockey. This will be the crop of players who allotted the most star points, and I split them up between hitters and pitchers. It doesn't really gauge how good they were stat-wise, but more about how many games they had a big impact on.

1st star hitting: Lord Skeletor of the Orange Army with 16 points! He didn't excel in anything but he was an all around great performer for the OA this season.
2nd star hitting: Magneto of the X-men! 14 points
3rd star hitting: Herbert Hackman of the Beewolves! 13 points

1st star pitching: Alisha Woodrow of the Moonstars! 12 points
T-2nd star pitching: Elmo Slayer, also of the Moonstars! 9 points
T-2nd star pitching: Mothza Supreme of the Emerald Snax! 9 points

Best Hitters and Best Pitchers
This is the general category I was referring to. This is my own opinion of course, but I'll be taking into account all factors to determine who in my eyes were the best overall hitters and pitchers this season!

For hitters, I think the #1 spot has to go to Estelle Costanza of the Blowfish. She had 22 RBI, 9 HR, and led the league with a .493 OBP%. What makes the difference to me though, is that she is the only one on her entire team who had a stolen base, and she had 2 of them. Taking a bit of a backseat in the hitting counting stats is more than made up by her stealing. She also maintained her better obp over 3 more plate appearances than Frank. It's a razor thin margin though.

#2, her teammate Frank Costanza led with 24 RBI, tied for the lead with 10 homers, took 3rd in OBP% with .457...he was just an all around beast. If he had stolen even 1 base I might have given 1st to him.

#3 is a bit harder, but I am going to go with Scooter Sandbrick of the Platypi. It's a hard choice between him, his teammate Beefcake McStevens, and a few others, but his power, tying for the lead with 10 homers and taking 3rd with 21 RBIs, along with having an obp almost good enough for the top 5 with .418, really shows his all around ability at the plate.

For pitchers, despite Rouge having a lower ERA, I think the best pitcher this season has been Tim Spoony-Barger of the Orange Army. A 1.45 ERA and .54 WHIP are just too good. Rouge did not even crack the top 5 in WHIP which shows me TSB's ERA is more legit. He did only K 11, but he also had one fewer start than some other pitchers who got a 6th start.

For 2nd, I will go with Alisha Woodrow of the Moonstars. To me, WHIP is a better indicator of pitching performance than ERA, and Woodrow's sits pretty at .76 while also logging a very impressive 2.39 ERA, just missing out on the top 5. She had 6 starts but she did come in 2nd place with that with 22 Ks, so she missed bats frequently too.

For 3rd, I will go with Mothza Supreme of the Emerald Snax. He had a 2.05 ERA but a WHIP of .81, which is 5 pts higher than woodrow. He also logged 6 starts and turned it into 3 fewer Ks than Woodrow with 19.

The time is now. As mentioned a long time ago, playoffs are best of 3 games. Here we go!

Moonstars vs Buccaneers Game 1
This series represents the opposition of 2 fundamental aspects of the game: Pitching vs hitting.
The Moonstars started off fast with a homer in the 1st inning, while the Bucs managed to pull even in the 5th with one of their own. Then in the 7th, both teams logged runs to stay even, and we would stay that way for the rest of regulation. Extras baby!

We went scoreless in extras until the 12th! The moonstars managed to get another run while the bucs failed to capitalize on a leadoff hit in the bottom of the inning. Moonstars pitcher Slip Sauder logged what may have been a league-high 10 strikeouts! Opposing pitcher Slip Vanderwink was no slouch either, going TEN INNINGS to try and keep his team in it.

Moonstars - 3
Buccaneers - 2

Game 2
This one played out much like the last one. 1st inning 2 run homer for the moonstars, the bucs get it back with one of their own in the 6th, and we would stay like that for regulation. However, this one went to the 15TH INNING. Finally, in the 15th, the Bucs manage to plate a run and break the tie, so in the bottom of the 15th the moonstars come up to bat. With 2 outs, they manage to single and walk for their best bench hitter to come to the plate, with his stats massively boosted because of the intensity of the situation...AND HE DELIVERS! A 3 run homer in the bottom of the 15th sends the Buccaneers home and the Moonstars to the championship!

Moonstars - 5
Buccaneers - 3

Great couple of games from both sides! Good job bucs for making it this far!

Platypi vs Emerald Snax, Game 1
The Platypi took an early lead with a home run in the 1st inning, but the Snax got it back in the 3rd. Rinse and repeat for the 4th and 6th and we're tied at 2 thru 6, but the Snax finally break through with a 2 run homer in the 7th. Then, with 2 outs in the 9th, the Platypi plate 1 to cut the lead, but fall short of bringing that tying run home.

Emerald Snax vs Moonstars, Game 1

The top 4 of the snax order just killed the moonstars, combining for 12 of their 13 total hits and all 5 runs, while the Moonstars only managed 4 hits total with 0 runs.
Emerald Snax - 5
Moonstars - 0
Not a good start for the moonstars, but their next 2 SPs that could pitch were 2 of the league leading pitchers this season. Will they be able to limit the Snax in the next game!?

Emerald Snax vs Moonstars, Game 2
The answer is no for the Moonstars. Alisha Woodrow, one of the best pitchers in the league, gave up 3 runs in 4 innings before getting pulled, and the relievers weren't able to fare much better. Once again though, the offense just wilted, scoring 0 runs again on only 6 hits. Their best chance was in the 5th, down 4-0, they got the bases loaded with 1 out but it came at the worst part of the order, and Woodrow grounded into a double play to kill it. The Snax tacked on two more for insurance in the 8th to become your Super Mega Baseball champions!

Emerald Snax - 6
Moonstars - 0
