Don't wanna post pics or links, but do you think they should've been kicked outta school for Mom's 'MILFs' Photos?

Catholic schools are basically private schools that have free rein to allow or disallow any student they want for pretty much any reason. Most of them have pretty strict entry requirements (up to and including requiring parents to be active members of the local church, which can include mandatory "volunteer" work), and have morality clauses where they can expel for pretty much any reason.

Even if you disagree with the mindset, it's still very much a "Fair, next" sort of situation. If you didn't want to deal with the potential issues, you shouldn't be sending your kids to Catholic school in the first place.

It doesn't even have to be like that though that's an amusing thought. OF is a subscription service but the content still ends up all over the place for everyone to view. It could have been brought to the attention of the school from someone outside.

Pretty much any discussion around a subject like this doesn't care about the question of "did they break the rules?", instead focusing on the question of "should this rule exist?". Obviously the rules were broken. Treating that like the end of the discussion is just intellectually lazy, and anyone who doesn't plan to contribute more than that really shouldn't bother trying to participate.

What's intellectually lazy is trying to swerve the discussion in that direction. Society is built upon agreements between individuals. If you agree to something -- and you're mentally competent to do so, not impaired, or deceived -- you're obligated to uphold your side of the agreement. If you think that you can't make good on your end, don't fucking agree to it. Simple as that. Instead of wanting a million special exceptions because you think things "should" be a certain way, just don't enter into the agreement. And anybody who points out that people should stand by their obligations is contributing more to the discussion than anybody engaged in special pleading.

Now there is one other caveat, and that would be if the agreement was either illegal (and therefore invalid) or poorly spelled out.

Nothing special

To get into those schools you have to sign a contract that pretty much clearly states the rules by which your kids are allowed to remain in the school. Break those rules, and the kids are kicked out. If you don't like it, you shouldn't be sending your kids to those schools in the first place. The rules are only going to change if they can't get enough students to enroll to keep the school running. Given that most catholic schools have a rather large waiting list, that certainly isn't happening anytime soon.

I think it is funny he just uses Adjil's term "intellectual laziness" as a counter to what Adjil said even though it doesn't make sense.

Dusting your hands off and going "well, the rules are the rules" is NOT intellectually lazy.

Attempting to think critically about it(which inherently requires more effort) IS.

He seems to like doing that a lot, but it literally never works out for him. Yes, spinning your opponent's words against them is a lovely dramatic flair, if you can pull it off, but he consistently tries to shoehorn a point that doesn't actually work and that he can't actually support into the wording I use in the apparent hope that everyone will think he's enough of a badass that they don't think any further about it. That never happens, and yet he doesn't seem to learn from his dismal failures.

I don't think they should kick someone out of the school for this, but I don't think we should be able to say some institution can't do this. So I think think "Fair, next?" is a shorter way of saying that.

There's a fair amount of middle ground between "they can have whatever rules they want with no consequences" and "this rule should be illegal," though. Namely, looking to effect a cultural shift away from accepting such rules as being reasonable (generally by discussing how reasonable they are and arriving at the conclusion that they aren't), and shaming anyone unwilling to have such discussions as being intellectually lazy.

Quite simply, any time anyone presents a rule like this, they should expect to have to defend why they consider it to be reasonable. If they can't, then they shouldn't be enforcing it.
