Theyll probably get there at some point. It looks like he got slashed in that area in the shot where he says Kano wins.

anyway, Sub-Zero made a frozen blood dagger, so this looks pretty good. Aside from the glaring terrible Johnny Cage situation, it seems like theyre committing hard to the game material.

it looks good! i had low expectations because the first two drafts of the script leaked online and were awful. this was shot using an unleaked third draft that was written by a guy with no writing credits who is just a big MK fan. due to WGA union laws a lot of the original script CANNOT be touched (only a certain % can be altered or there would be hefty fines) so you still have Cole being in it and Kano being a good guy but they fixed a lot of the big issues with the script like Cole literally being Scorpion in hiding... as a boxer in Philadelphia???

It doesn't look awful, but... sticking a non-canon chosen one in there as the "guy not in the loop who everyone else explains shit to" is always annoying, especially when the franchise already had Johnny Cage to fill that role.

Also, was that Shang Tsung fighting like Scorpion, or is Scorpion an old dude who looks like Shang Tsung in this?

YUP ME TOO. Honestly, if we just go into this expecting nothing from the story and just enjoying a garbage movie with really cool effects, that's how to get maximum enjoyment here.

My expectations were exceeded already.

my preferred option is that he really is a no name guy on purpose so they can kill him off near the end and let Liu Kang win the tournament

Cole was literally Scorpion in the first draft and then literally Scorpion's son in the second draft so anything is on the table at this point

Anyway, this movie looks like stupid fun, and the gore looks great. Exactly what you want out of Mortal Kombat. Video game movies have been upgraded to "okay" for a little while and this might continue that trend!
