My current town and the one I spent my teen years were gas boom towns , where almost every building in the downtown area was built in the 1890s . The fact that I can say that and you immediately picture the place and know at least some of what it has to offer is enough indication of what makes it interesting. My hometown is notable for being one of the largest safest cities in the U.S., one of the biggest cities in California despite not having worldwide recognition like SF or LA, and attracting a bunch of techies who are gentrifying the city and destroying the local culture!
