a lot of democrats live in Texas. In fact, more Republicans in California voted for Trump than republicans in texas. You are smart enough to know how misleading and dumb the Electoral College is.

Is this person really from the Northeast? Seriously, "don't have to worry about power outages"? Are they a loon? Literally last year a huge chunk of NJ was without power for a week due to a wind storm. During 90+ degree humid heat.

Most states get recommendations on how to avoid a natural disaster in the future and then the power companies and politicians just simply ignore it. It is a fucking racket.

texas is faring worse than most states because the people in charge decided to eschew the united energy infrastructures of the east and west. On top of that, our houses and roads aren't built for this and we're getting floods due to burst pipes and now we are losing water also.

That said, I agree no power during the heat is also terrible. A few years ago I lost my air conditioner for two weeks in texas summer, I wanted to die.

I hope things get better for you. It was indeed a nightmare, and I need white noise to sleep so I was hot, sweaty and absolutely miserable. Meanwhile 5 minutes away my parents had power (I think they are on the emergency grid as they are close to a hospital). Eventually I just stayed over there instead cause it was too much. I live in a damn swamp so it gets real bad in the summer.

Seriously, I wish you and your family the best. No one should have to suffer because everyone up top is just a greedy fuck that doesn't do anything to actually help people.

because those states follow those pesky rules and regulations established by the fed gov't. texas didnt want nothing to do with that shit, though, so they went off and made their own power grid with their own lack of rules because they favored profits over people. like, this exact thing happened just 10 years ago and what did texas do? double down on placing profits over people

I'm not even saying anything about any of that, I'm just saying waving off a week long power outage as some minor expected thing is bullshit. What's happening in Texas is terrible and the state didn't prepare well, which clearly isn't the fault of the average Texan, but I don't see any reason to be disingenuous about the sort of things other people have experienced because of that

That was pretty creative.

That's more or less the real solution. In NYC they stick plows on garbage trucks and make them do it. Street cleaners can also be made to spray salt. They don't have much in the way of dedicated snow removal. They're just better prepared using their already existing infrastructure.

Personally, if Abbotts this desparate to blame ERCOT Im willing to bet they deserve little to none of the blame. Its far more likely the legislature and Abbott himself purposefully blocked them from doing anything to prepare because they want to privatize the system. The Texas GQP has already shown they dont care if people die after all, given the whole old people should be willing to sacrifice to keep the economy open line.
Lets also not forget things wouldnt be near this bad if Texas just fucking signed onto the same grids literally the entire rest of the country uses in the first place.

The salt and plows are existing materials and equipment that many states either don't have on hand, or have very little of.

It's also a question of budgeting for the man hours
