I was thinking more what % of people. Not individual anecdotal evidence.

Anecdotal - (of an account) not necessarily true or reliable, because based on personal accounts rather than facts or research.

How is what I said at all anecdotal? It's all facts. Schindler's List, Anne Frank, Rommel refusing to let his troops attack Jewish civilians.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rescue_of_Jews_during_the_Holocaust

There, that's a gateway to multiple countries and their helping Jews during World War 2 and specifically Nazi occupation at that time. Don't gaslight and act like people helping Jews wasn't some common thing.

Watch any movie or tv show depicting Nazi Germany with Jewish main characters and there is someone helping them.

Bad, most of the people involved in Operation Paper Clip were war criminals who deserved to hang.

Just to clarify. I'm not saying no one helped Jews during World War 2 nor that there weren't objections from within Germany itself and I apologise if that's how it came across. I guess my point is more I don't think any of us knows what we would do unless we were put in that situation. The Milgram experiments kinda show how easy it is to coerce someone into doing bad stuff.

Holodomor? No one is held culpable for it till today.
Khmer Rouge genocide that killed half a country? No one either. Pol Pot died himself.
Mao Zedong, killer of millions? Immortalised as the f****ing savior of China instead.

Grow up kids. Read history. Most evil doers just go unpunished and they are MUCH worse than some woman who was somehow indirectly involved in the killing of Jews
Yes those things happened. None of it is relevant to this specific woman or this specific case.

yes it is. I get that woman is culpable, but the crime was literally almost a freaking century ago. Give her a break. But hey, apparently the minute CE hears Nazi they think 'evil'. The world has only been taught as Nazis as evil villians.

Most of the general public go completely unaware that this is so damn far from the truth. There's like 99% of the other atrocities throughout the history of the 20th century that have gone completely unpunished if you didnt realize. For closest comparison, go look at Japan. Literally all their bats*** crazy soldiers that went around raping, beheading, cannibalising and massacring little kids just got sent back home and lived peaceful lives till old age.

In fact there's this interviewer that went to ask these veterans if they even regret what they did. Some of that did NOT. That's how f***ed up it is. Or go search the Unit 731. The amount of horrifying s*** there will make you think the Holocaust is lalaland.

And guess what? The Americans gave all those crazy Japanese scientists the free pass. No punishment. NOTHING.

If you guys actually study history, you'd realize how small of a fraction WW2 is compared to what was going else throughout the decades in the 1900s. Genocides were very common actually.

The irony of it is how the statement 'the victors write history' rings so true. US, Britain and Russia ganged up to paint a propaganda effort of only the Nazis being the baddies. Pop culture throughout the 1900s further reinforced this by continually portraying WW2 and only WW2 in this limelight of good vs evil in movies, TV shows, books, superhero comics etc..

No, I will not give her a break. She got to live a long life. Fuck her. Stop pretending most of us don't know anything about the shit you are talking about, I know all about Unit 731, it was bullshit that they got away with it. They deserve bullets to the back of the head as well. The difference between the Germans and the Japanese is that the Germans take dealing with their past seriously. The Japanese want to pretend it didn't happen.

no, I'm just sick of ignorant people who are completely unaware of the many other crimes happening throughout the 1900s, heck.. even WW2.

go look at what the Japanese did from Burma death railway, the death march, the sookching massacre, the nanking rape, Unit 731, their general treatment of POWs, their ways of torture (go see the water torture if you can handle it) and cannibalism etc.

go look at what the Soviets did to Germans especially following the invasion of Berlin. the sheer amount of rapes is indescribable. Yes, the Germans kinda deserved it then but a crime is a crime.

She's 95 and got a full life. What would be the point of imprisoning a 95 year old person now? She would need specific care because of her old age which would just cost a lot of money to the civilians...theres not really a positive to imprisoning her.

She had a full life. Probably got married, had kids, etc. There's nothing we could do now to punish her.

Just taking a step back and concentrating on the topic of is it right to punish old people for crimes they committed in the past...

Do you feel there should be some sort of statute of limitations for when someone can be tried for a crime they committed?

Personally I don't. To me it's very important to ensure someone who breaks the law in a major way is tried no matter how long has passed since the crime. If not for punishing the person then at least for setting the standard that if you do bad you WILL be tried.

There's been legal cases where people are let off due to old age. Also tons of legal loopholes have allowed lots of worse injustice to prevail in this world.

So given the finite resources we have to expend on the legal system, why even bother with trying an old woman Nazi for?

But from a realistic standpoint, yeah I see it's expected. Criminals can only face persecution in the area/town/country they live in. If it's somewhere like Japan...sure, you can say they just got it lucky

What is this "we" shit? I'm cool with ending any and all war criminals. That includes the Russians who raped their way through first Prussia and then the rest of Germany. Or the Americans and British that raped French civilians. The issue is that Germany seems to be the only country who takes it seriously.

If we're saying she was gulity of being complicit then why didn't we put the vast majority of other german adults in the 40s on trial? It's not like these camps were a huge secret
