Finally passed the intro with the first few characters and a couple quests after that. It sucks how there's so many arbitrary limits on quests and ascensions and such.

I also don't really know what best to do with the wishes. I got Noelle but the rest of my wishes I'm just rolling randomly and getting mediocre weapons. Should I save up for the 10x ones? Or wait for different wishes to show up? The percentages seem so low too.
Single or 10x doesn't really matter much. They're the same statistically. The percentages are indeed low, but getting a roster of good 4* units will be more important than any particular 5* right now, and you're guaranteed a 4* at least 1 per 10 pulls. This banner and the next one have some nice ones to pick from, so make sure you're rolling on the limited banner and not the weapon or standard banner.

As far as limits on quests and ascensions...the grind is very real, but smart use of resources will help ease pains. Take a long view of the game and focus your attention on a few units rather than spread out resources too much and you should be fine.

Okay, so wishes...there are three banners: The "character" banner, the weapon banner, and the standard banner. The first two change what they offer periodically. The standard stays constant.

In all of them, each wish that does not earn you a 5-star brings you closer to pity. Soft pity is at 74 when percentages start to spike upward from the 0.6% they state. At 90, it becomes automatic. Meanwhile, you will get a 4-star (character or weapon) at most every 10 pulls.

Pulling x10 simply represents doing a single pull 10 times, in rapid fashion. So it's really just a matter of what you like. However, assuming you don't get lucky, it will take you a while to receive a pity 5-star. You earn 60 gems a day from doing daily commissions once those unlock. Besides that, it's basically just limited time events and what you pay for, HOWEVER, chests do frequently give you a few and achievements are worth 5 or 10. By the time you finish exploring the world, you'll have a modest amount.

As for which you should pull on, don't pull on the weapon. You will want 4-star weapons eventually, which you can't get on the character banner -- the one currently featuring Xiao -- so I would argue for the standard banner. But I know others here will probably say to focus on the character banner instead. Really, it should be answered thusly: Is there a four-star on Xiao's banner that you like and specifically want a better chance at? If yes, pull there. If not, go standard. Diona is a mediocre healer with a shield skill. Xinyan also produces a shield with her burst, but she's a pyro damage dealer. Beidou is the most unique since her whole playstyle is built around countering attacks, but it can be clunky...you either really love Beidou or really don't.

Okay. Let me rephrase that. You will want 4-star weapons eventually, which you very rarely get on the character banner. I was pulling almost exclusively on the character banner for a while and I had to stop because I had very few weapons above 3-stars.

Another thing I'm not sure about with wishes is which characters I actually want. I feel like the intro squad is good enough, although I need a healer. Is the idea to build different parties which have each a DPS of a different element?

First off, once you get AR20 you get Barbara for free, and she's a healer. A poor one, but she functions.

Teambuilding is a difficult subject and I can't say mine is very good even when I'm far into the endgame. What I can say is that it's important to have access to the main four elements for certain things (breaking shields, mostly), but that doesn't mean that you need four highly developed characters to cover them. For instance, Kaeya can be swapped in just to use his elemental skill for a quick application of ice and swapped out without needing him to be high level. You mostly want to start with your best DPS, or the character you most want to use as DPS, give them your resources and keep them as strong as possible, and aim for the characters that synergize with them. And you will want to have two DPSes because Abyss will require two teams.

I still use Barbara, more often than not. The fact that she heals on demand, rather than based on a burst skill, is a big difference maker.

I'll loosely echo what Sceptile said about the teams. Use characters you're happy with and focus on potential synergies and elemental coverage. You don't need a wide bench until much, much later, and only for specific tasks. Usually a team will consist of the following four characters:

1) Main DPS. This is the person who is out when nobody else is. You'll legit use their auto-attack rather than just swapping in for a skill and back out. Razor, Ningguang, and sometimes Xiangling are good 4-star options here. (Technically anyone is, so use who you want. I used MC until AR35.)

2) Support DPS. Someone who has an element that will help create reactions with your main, and ideally contributes additional damage when off the field. Fischl is usually the typical answer here. She summons a bird that shoots at things like a turret, and doesn't have to remain on the field. Lisa and Kaeya can do this with their burst.

3) Healer. If not a literal healer, someone who provides protection or utility that minimizes damage. Options include Barbara, Bennett, Diona, arguably Noelle or Xinyan.

4) Basically anyone. Late game, this is often someone who doubles your main DPS's element for the resonance bonus, or an anemo character with a particular artifact set. Right now, better just to focus on elemental coverage.

Until you get to AR30, I'd focus on learning the game mechanics themselves, rather than throwing resources at everyone. Pick four people you like, get them to level 40 (after your first world level increase) and decide what you feel you're missing from there. For me, personally, I really wanted a pyro character that wasn't Amber. Fortunately Xiangling is free for finishing three floors of the Spiral Abyss, so I busted my butt to clear that.

As for elements, you can't go too far wrong if you have a pyro, a hydro, and a cryo, or substitute one of them with electro. And that's essentially what they give you with the default team.

I used Barbara up until she hit friendship 10, and I still bring her around to Abyss due to lack of alternatives, but using her is frequently a frustrating experience. My Bennett kind of sucks but at least he doesn't get frozen.

Oh, I have Diona for when freezing is likely to be a concern. That's mostly only against the wolf and in specific domains, though. OTOH, being limited to healing by bursts that may or may not be up when you need them is far more frustrating.

Patiently waiting to see how this tower defense mode goes. I've heard Jean is easy mode due to flinging enemies off, but I lack her.

I do got Ganyu though, so freeze should be something for me to focus on. I imagine Kaeya or any other cryo will perform well too. It actually helps that this isn't about dps, but rather what E skills and elements can be plonked down.

You get a quest. Do the quest. Then they tell you to go to Liyue Harbor. Go to Liyue Harbor. Then stuff becomes available in the event menu. Also, some new resources show up in the world from drops and harvesting resources. You'll need those.

As for the tower defense, about to try it, but I've been looking forward to this for a bit.

Okay, so rundown on the tower defense. I'm going to pretend like you don't know anything about TDS.

There's an entry portal where enemies appear. They have to walk through the stage, and then reach an exit portal. Your job is to cut them down along that path. To do that, you erect towers that autoattack the enemies as they pass. In Theater Mechanicus, you can only construct towers at select nodes and you cannot directly impede the progress of the enemies with, say, a wall.

Generally in TDS, you want to create a "kill zone" where you funnel the enemies through and then focus all your efforts on ensuring they die in that one specific spot. Since we don't level up towers within a stage here like in other games, this is really just a matter of finding choke points and putting towers down. Very simple and direct. The enemies in this do not do damage or deviate from their path. Not for the towers. Not for you. Not for taunts.

You have access to four towers, corresponding to the four elements on "the wheel." Hydro is a short-range AE that should be placed at the lead edge of the kill zone. Pyro is a long-distance bombard that easily does the most damage, but has slow-traveling projectiles that can miss quicker opponents. Electro and Cryo are direct, single target attacking, with electro being much better than cryo.

However, you can also trigger elemental reactions. Hence why cryo isn't worthless. Freezing enemies is fantastic. Damage-dealing reactions are pretty good, too. There will be other towers later -- anemo, physical, and bombs -- but for today that's what we have to work with.

The other wrinkle is that your character is there and can interact with the world...except you're kind of a ghost, because your attacks don't deal damage. They DO however knock back or apply elements. I'd recommend bringing a sword user and standing in the enemy's path, spamming charge attacks to keep them from progressing. Or just, y'know, Jean. Alternatively, bring a cryo user to support your hydro towers, but keep in mind you won't gain energy and therefore have no access to your burst. In that regard, archers are possibly the best elemental appliers.

Each stage consists of four waves. The enemies very slowly pour out of the entrance portal. Once a wave is done, you have a chance to pick a bonus. Bonuses cost the same resources you use to build the towers with. You'll gain more by killing enemies, but if you have none at the end of a stage, you might be limited in selection. There are two special types here, fickle and fearless. Fickle comes with a drawback. Fearless costs nothing, but is strictly a downside. Both have additional score rewards at the end.

Speaking of score, the scoring table seems very elaborate at first, but it's actually quite simple. You get points for surviving. You get points for not letting enemies through. (You can miss up to 20, but it's almost trivial to stop most or all.) You get points for selecting bonuses. The most I've gotten on a run so far was around 450. It's probably possible to do a little better.

We only have access to two maps right now. The first is two entrance points that merge and then separate around opposite sides of a square. Just attack them before or after the square. The second features a bridge and two entrance points. Set up by the bridge or behind it. You can turn off the bridge if there are particularly troublesome foes coming.

It costs 1 Xiao Lantern to do a run. There are no other limits on how many points you can earn or how many times you can try, so you can just keep accruing points to spend on tower upgrades. I improved the four towers to level 4, as well as a fifth tower type I didn't discuss that isn't super important yet.

I don't have Jean, but I assume you can hold enemies in place and then launch them backward so they have more chances to be hit by the towers.

Didn't know about the geo traveler thing, but I did see a video before bed that said you could cheese the stages. That was probably what that was about.

No problems on my end. Had some fun with some pals going to various mining spots to stock up on crystals and the rock material for the lanterns. Naturally some enemies and plants were grabbed along the way. Ended up making 100 lanterns, which I feel will be probably enough for the event. My F key and left index finger hopes so, at least.

The Theater Mechanicus is about what I expected it to be. Very much a watered down tower defense, but a refreshing experience in the game nonetheless. My biggest complaint with it is the amount of time between waves to select which special perk/challenge you want is a bit short, but even that became much more bearable after a couple times through.

I had Ganyu, so I naturally preferred building hydro towers. A pal of mine focused on Pyro and the recovery towers. We discovered a dash of electric helped a fair bit too. We ended up with far more of the hammer currency than we could hope to spend. All in all, the max level we could do today was plenty forgiving, but we've seen how difficulty can ramp up in later phases in events before...I'm hoping some of the top end challenge levels are sufficiently hard.

Quite an extensive day of Genshin for me with all the new quests and deliveries and new game mode to absorb. Gonna be hard to go back to the normal daily grind after this.

My biggest complaint is the amount of time in every other part of the game is way too freaking long. I'm used to my TDS games having some means of hustling the game along if I so choose.

That said, if anyone wants to pair up for this -- not because I need to, but just for the hell of it -- I'll be around most of tomorrow.

Different currency. You get armory currency after every game, while shop currency is basically achievement points.

Nice to know. I upgraded a few towers to level 3 just from clearing the first level lol. Freeze seems OP for this mode. I like how the samachurls sprint too. Its hilarious watching them run
