I just recently got Dark Spikes on him while I had him as a Dark Mage so maybe its exclusive to that class?

Nope. I never made him a Dark Mage. I thought about it but never pulled the trigger. I just upgraded from Mage to Warlock

Hubert is the only character that should ever consider going Dark Mage line if only because it gives him something compared to Warlock which gives him literally nothing. I would say go Bishop over either but he has a Bane in Faith.

I don't know what they were thinking when the designed the Dark Mage line.

And screw IS for re-gender locking Valkyrie. That's what Hubert really wants.

Dark mage in general is bad. Unless New Game+ where you can just buy the passives from dark mage / Wizard and skip playing them.

Dark Mage is bad but Warlock literally gives Hubert nothing. It is just a stop gap until he hits Dark Knight. So if you have the seals give Hubert Dark Bishop so he can get some benefit while in an advanced class.

Dark Bishop's only benfit to Hubert over Warlock is an enemy melee avoidance debuff and arguably a more useful, but still rather meh mastery skill. I guess on a numbers only focus, having Fiendish Blow freed up from your active skills list is technically a buff, but what are you likely to have to replace it with at that point?

It is more that Warlock is just nothing for him rather than Dark Bishop being good.

But yeah you have four dark magic users in the game. Of those three are women so it only makes sense that the Dark Bishop class should be male gender locked. Bravo IS. Bravo.

Sorry I forgot you, Hapi, be my waifu still.

Speaking of Hapi, can I just say how fucking stupid it is that one of her white magic spells is super effective against monsters when her innate ability makes literally all her attacks super effective against monsters? She has Warp and Physic so it's great still, but Jesus, what a fucking stupid thing. Give her literally anything in place of it. Restore, Ward, Fortify, Rescue, Silence. Anything.

While I wasn't happy with the re-gender locking of Peg units at least there are a couple decades of FE tradition behind that.

I must say, starting a new game on a different route has already pulled my back into this game hard. A lot of the basic dialogue is the same but every student being unique fascinates me. I want to learn everything about them. Im getting the same feelings I got on my first run. In fact, its happening faster. Hopefully the 2nd half of the game is much better compared to Crimson Flower

CF is pretty much the worst route so you're guaranteed to have a better experience on the second half.

So how does it work in the Black Eagle path where you stand with the church, in terms of who stays and who leaves in Part 2? I'm guessing all the adults plus Flayn and Cyril stay, and the students leave? I did kinda want to try an adults run, since I barely use any of them other than Shamir.

Apparently everyone stays with you outside of Edelgard and Hubert? Someone feel free to correct me.

Also, on a personal note, is Jealt lying to everyone when he said he forgot his age?

If you want to use Catherine, I would recommend doing so on any route besides the Church one as she is considerably stronger since you can get her at lower levels and her bases basically don't change.

If you recruit her in chapter 4 she is a level 7 Swordmaster with base 19 Strength, 18 Speed, A in swords and her own Relic.

Don't get me wrong, she is fine in the Church route but there is something about having her be completely busted that is just fun.

No. While his age never really comes into play as a part of his character they wanted to establish ways of living longer to throw suspicion off people like Rhea having similarly long lives.

So many little pieces of dialogue Im picking up on now that I thought was meaningless but actually isnt. This is while I dont know a large chunk of the story.

An example is when Rhea explains to me how the Goddess came into the world and how she is the arbiter of all life. She seemed so disappointed I didnt know. The odd thing was I had a choice in dialogue options there between, I didnt know... and My father never told me.

That is strange. There has to be a reason why the father line is there. I think I know why based on a few things I gathered in these topics

Alright. I'm going to give my first impressions on the characters in the Golden Deer house. I know this is early on and more supports will tell me more. Plus, the timeskip will show me how they develop as people. This is for right now though...

As for now... I mostly don't like these people.

Claude is actually pretty cool and genuine. I was not expected that.

Lorenz is just Fredinand of this house but slightly more annoying. He isn't terrible or anything. Fredinand was more oblivious so it was easier to look past some of the things he said. Less so with Lorenz.

Raphael is just annoying as fuck. Holy shit. This guy gets on my nerves. He is FAR worse that Caspar. It's not even close.

I'm actually liking Ignatz surprisingly. I was so certain he would be the worst one but he is very considerate yet lacks confidence. I thought I would have found something very interesting about him if he questioned if the Goddess didn't exist. However, he just wanted to know what she looked like which was weak. Maybe he does question her existence and that was a cover? I don't know yet.

I like Lysithea but that was expected since she was the only one I ended up recruiting in the last run. I think I recruited her for... I actually don't remember. There was a reason. Maybe she tied into the story at that point or something. So I know about her and what to expect from her.

I also like Marianne. She is very quiet but she seems to have her own goals. She is similar to Ignataz in that she lacks self confidence. Her past seems like it might be interesting as well when Claude pried at it. I don't know a ton about her yet.

Hilda is just... good lord.. I REALLY don't like her right now. She is just very lazy and very manipulative. I feel bad for people who get caught in her web. This kind of personality can end up doing a 180 after the timeskip though so I'm hoping she gets better.

Leonie. I really don't like her either. She seems very fixated on Jeralt to the point where it is just annoying. Hell, the main character, who has lived with him and fought with him his/her entire life, can say he isn't that amazing and she will argue you to the ground. She also seems to have this superiority complex because she was trained by him. She also just has this bossy attitude. Right now I really don't like her.

Those are my opinions early on for the Golden Deer house. So far I like the Black Eagle house characters much more but time will reveal all.

Each route has one character from another house you can recruit post-time skip. Lysithea is CF's character.

That's not really the same as Lysithea. You have to have recruited them pre-time skip and like Lorenz they leave post-time skip and you have to re-recruit them. Lysithea you can just recruit without having ever had her on your team.

Who should I end up with at the end of Crimson Flower? (Male Byleth) I'm leaning toward either Edelgard because this is the only possible path I could, Linhardt because I haven't done a same-sex ending yet and I feel like he isn't a good pairing for everyone else and I wanna see who everyone else ends up with, or Petra because she's the hot one of the Black Eagle house.

Yeah, she has a good offensive spell list and decent support spell list and solid growths for a mage. Sounds like you are just getting screwed. Thankfully, well-timed class certifications can offset some of that.

What are you raising her in skill-wise?

Reason, Faith and Flying. Mostly Flying since I heard air units are the best and I had zero of those on my first run. Its early on still but Im not sure what I want to do with her yet. Is there even a spell caster that rides a Pegasus?

The dark flier class is the only flying class that can use magic, but it's DLC exclusive, so there is little point in raising the stat for Marianne if you don't have the DLC. In fact, there is literally no point since the abilities learned from the flying skill ups requires the unit to take no action and you'd preferably have your healer take action each turn.

Do you have the DLC?

There is the Dark Flier class that can fly and use magic. Marianne does very well there.

If not my recommendation is Noble -> Mage -> Warlock/Bishop -> Dark Knight.
If you want to go Dark Knight with the DLC Noble -> Mage -> Valkyrie - Dark Knight

Faith is a trap skill for Marianne. Since her faith spell list doesn't really matter after hitting B and getting Silence. So all it is good for is classing into White Magic classes (Bishop, Gremory, Holy Knight). Marianne doesn't have any spells that needs to be doubled so going that direction just needlessly nerfs her offense while offering her little, though if your B in Faith lets you class into Bishop over Warlock without much issue, go for it as Renewal is a better skill.

I will add the caveat that Holy Knight is completely outclassed by Dark Knight in every way as an offensive class and by Bishop/Gremory as a support class. It is designed to be the offensive white magic class, but offensive white magic is terrible. Dark Knight even heals better than Holy Knight due to having one more point of magic.

For a unit you want to be ready to heal more so than worrying about maximizing their offensive capabilities, Gremory/Male Bishop is really good. Though it really should be a unit with physic due to the limited mobility.

Holy Knight is at least a bottom 3 end-game class if not worse.
