Anyway, Golden Deer's units are real feast or famine.

Claude, Hilda, Leonie, Lysithia, and Marianne are all very solid. Some of the best in the game.

Ignatz is basically Bernie with no crest, worse combat arts, and a skill that while amazing, only shines in Maddening.

Raphael is better than Caspar but otherwise meh.

I have never had good luck with Lorenz who's mixed attacking nature makes him kinda suck at both. I would highly recommend you grab a cavalier from a different house to replace him.

Are you playing Bylass or Bylad?

Also, I haven't mentioned this yet but the Chests are super overrated in terms of gameplay. They hardly make any significant difference. They hardly matter at all.

The most important aspects of the crests are that having one allows a character to use a relic weapon without taking damage, and having the corresponding one allows a character to use a relic weapon's unique combat art.

Also some of them, especially Felix and some of the DLC characters, have really good effect crests that prog significant amounts due to them being major crests rather than minor ones, but yes, mostly the actual effect of the crests are next to worthless.

The supports are the same basically but if you play female Byleth you can auto recruit Sylvain.

I know people dont like Caspar but so far I find his story far more interesting. Hopefully Raphaels story is really interesting too.

Ingatz seems to be a character with a very boring personality with a very boring back story. Hell, not many quirks either. I still have a lot more to learn about him but my initial thoughts are that he is the worst character in the game. He doesnt even seem to have any compelling opinions. Hopefully Im pleasantly surprised like I was with other characters so well see I guess

EDIT: God. I feel like Ingatzs personality and story will end up being as shallow as a puddle and as wide as a coffee straw. I hope it isnt that bad

That's ridiculous. Felix is a ten times better character than Raphael.

Unrelated to anything sidenote: It annoys me how in the English dub, Lorenz' name is pronounced as Lawrence, but in the Japanese it sounds more like Lorenzo without the O.

Meh. He at least sounds more interesting. Sounds like he could have been a lot better if they explored that issue you mentioned more.

I havent played through those houses yet but based on what I learned in my first run, I agree 100%. Felix seems to have a lot more hidden depth and a true purpose. Im interested in how he really thinks since wanting to be strong he clearly just a means to an end based on how Im reading him.

I hope he doesnt turn out like Jeritza. Granted I didnt recruit Mercedes, so I missed out on important supports. Also, if you need Mercedes supports to carry your character then you are a bad character. That is also assuming those support conversations are great. The fact that he only had my supports and Bernadettas supports during that run didnt help. However, it seems like he would only gain Mercedessupports and thats all he gets.

I didnt want to rant about him but here I am lol.

Not sure exactly what makes Mercedes "the best healer" in the game over other healers with Physic.

Among the students Mercedes is the best healer in terms of purely healing, but she's the worst Bishop. She doesn't get warp or rescue

Wait a second. If he wasnt playable... Did they just revamp Crimson Flowers story or something? I mean, did the Death Knight on that route disappear without any context or something? Was he just an NPC in every fight? Did you control him every fight as the Death Knight?

Im trying to understand how the game handled Jeritza without him being playable.

He shows up in the monastery but doesn't do anything and has no story relevance.

So he just becomes a training bot then. I can see that. However, I see why they had to add him. It would have been incredibly dumb for this big bad enemy that you had to deal with several times joining your side just for him to do nothing. Well, I guess it was more like you joined him but the point still stands.

All of CF was added late game development. Original story boarding had only three paths. So if CF feels underdeveloped that's because it kinda is and they had to go out of their way to make Rhea seem like the bad guy in the process.

I wish the game let Jeralt live if you were doing CF as that would make the slitherers seem much more sympathetic and Jeralt himself is already intensely distrustful of Rhea. CF as it stands is you're killing your spiritual cousins who treated you with nothing but kindness just to side with the torturous murderers who killed your father on the vague promise that Edelgard would help you get revenge that never happens.

Yeah, when the Death Knight is a green unit and everyone's wondering what the fuck is going on, Edelgard is all "yeah it's weird he's on our side but I'll explain everything later" but then the timeskip happens and the matter is never brought up again.

In my first run I used Ignatz as a dancer. He was always on my team.

In my hard mode GD run, Raphael was doing pretty well. Give him some gauntlets and he does some work (not as much as Dedue from BL, best house btw). He did have a speed problem though, but he was a tank and barely took damage. Ignatz was definitely the weak link in the group, so making him the dancer gave him more use.

Dancers are weird. They are almost always the most valuable unit on a team, but their stats mean basically nothing. So my dancer always ends up as the unit on my team that offers me the least or has gotten RNG screwed. So Raphael, Ignatz, and Lorenz all make good dancers in the sense that it is hard to be a bad dancer.

Raphael is just not anywhere near as good as the tanks from the other routes (Edelgard and Dedue) and he need so much more support and attention than either of them to the point that you are often better off just using Hilda or Leonie as a pseudo tank instead.

And honestly, 3H is so player phased focused that tanks just aren't that valuable.

How Wary Fighter isn't the mastery skill for something in the knight line is mind-blowing.

I liked Raphael, he was one of my heavy hitters, and I liked his good-natured gluttonous simpleton spirit even if it wasnt too plot significant.

Lysithea was my glass cannon but most importantly, the Death Knight slayer that Ive sorely missed in every other house.

Leonie was my surprise battle monster.

Ive always mostly ignored the Dancer class, is it really that vital? An extra move is definitely nice but as a FE noob I didnt think it was that big of a deal.

Hubert filled that role fine for me. He one-shotted the Death Knight in my run

Actually, glass cannon doesnt do her justice, she was a pretty decent healer plus she gets Warp too. She was definitely one of the best in the house.
