Just as a bit of trivia, the two piano/drums songs were performed by two members of a trio. The third was not present for the recording of those two songs, because:
Unfortunately Lenwood had just had his wisdom teeth out and could barely play, so this one is also just Dustin and myself.
I wouldn't have thought that a piano/drums jazz duet would be interesting, but I really like both of those songs.

And here's another recommendation:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YS2-v6nqYQg
This is a 20-minute power medley of many songs from all the main Mario games (the 2D and 3D platformers). It's hosted by FamilyJules, who did The Eightfold Road album, and features a total of 70 performers in all different styles and interpretations. The only bit I don't really like is the screamo bit at the end; I have no way of judging whether it's good screamo or not, but I dislike screamo in general, so I don't like that part. But it's a thankfully short segment of an overall stellar song.

The #4 song (that only barely fell out of the top 10 once after the first revision) and #3 average overall? I'll definitely take that.

It's kinda funny, actually - Runaway Train was the last song I decided to nominate because I was debating with myself over whether you'd enjoy any Avantasia at all. Makes sense, though. They're certainly very theatrical and I can see how a lot of themes would appeal to you.

I'd recommend more of their stuff to you, but I honestly have no real idea what else from their catalogue you'd really gravitate toward. The Scarecrow is my favorite album of theirs and its title track my favorite of their songs (I guess you could consider that an indirect soft recommendation), but I could just as easily see you loving Angel of Babylon or Moonglow. With as much as you liked my offering for them in this topic, though, I'd imagine you could find at least one or two songs on any of their albums that you enjoy. They do a pretty good job keeping things diverse while maintaining their overall sound.

I always love your song rankings. Great topic. Looking forward to seeing what you think about some of my extra recs.

I don't know if I'd call them joke songs. Some of us here have rather eclectic tastes--I in particular have a tendency to praise things that stretch the definition of what music even is to its breaking point. Those two tracks were, theoretically, the type of thing I'd like--they just..."sound wrong in a way I don't like", but I wouldn't question anyone who did like them.

I actually rather like the Shnabubula - Digimon one that was just posted. I can't really place why, but I like it.

Super Mario Super Medley: Not bad. I didn't care for the acapella section or the Jump Up, Superstar portion but most of the songs were nice enough. Highlights were Soundole's section (though skimming his channel, I don't see anything I like quite as much as his bit on this video) and Dire Dire Docks because I just love that song and it's pretty hard to screw it up enough that I'd dislike it.

Uh, yeah, they're joke songs. Shnab even says in the description for Green Hell zone:
greem hill zone from the first sonic game, sonic advance 2
I love tails drowning
Not only is he spelling it wrong, he says that the first Sonic game was Sonic Advance 2. He's clearly trolling. =P

That being said, I agree that people could still enjoy the songs. You can come up with something that someone will like even when you're intentionally trying to be bad. If I slapped some paint onto a canvas and snuck it into a museum of modern art, there would be some people in there who unironically appreciated it. The "tone deaf" comment was more of a joke and wasn't intended to be a direct insult towards anyone's musical tastes.

Yeah, the a cappella portion was a low point for me, too. To be fair, it is an a cappella cover of a song that was originally a cappella (Secret Course from Super Mario Sunshine), but I didn't really like his style.

Huh. Well, I still like the Digimon one anyway!

Will get to the newly posed songs later, but Im going to detour and take a few songs from Every Time I Die - Low Teens here; Im in the mood for the band tonight, but dont think I want to marathon all 15 songs in a row, so Ill hit a few tonight and come back to the album again later.

Fear and Trembling: Opening with Kierkegaard references, huh? No real favorite lyrics, though nothing I disliked. Kind of a low mid-tier song for the band, I think.

Glitches: One of the so intense I kinda black out songs from the band.

C++ (Love Will Get You Killed): I thought this was one of the two songs Bane specifically wanted me to listen to from the album since it involves his wife almost dying in childbirth, but it seems that particular track is Petals... well, certainly cant blame Buckley for having multiple songs dealing with that trauma (somehow I doubt its only going to be relevant to two songs). Anyway, I kinda like this? Its still not my genre, but theres enough power in the lyrics that I have some emotional connection with the song... probably somewhere in the 60s for it.

...I should probably break here, but one of the songs Im supposed to listening to is track 6, so lets try to get through the first 6 songs.

Two Summers: Not quite my thingits a bit more mellow than some of the other songs, but I lack any particular connection to anything in it. I will say that the The Tell-Tale Heart reference was clever. Very Buckley.

Awful Lot: Some of his better lyrics here:

Why cant it be the year 2000
I want to live in the year 2000
When I was dumb enough to truly believe

Theres that blunt sadness I look for. Still not as good as Revival Mode, but something I might want a playlist somewhere.

I Didnt want to Join Your Stupid Cult Anyway: Probably in the early 50s for a score? Like, you think Id have a very strong reaction to it in some way, but its just like... okay, I didnt mind that.

Well, I like 2 of the songs, so thats pretty good so far. Its a good enough average that I look forward to hearing the rest of the album later.

I'll throw my hat into the Chrono Trigger ring with this 3+ hour long video I just found that honestly only has a handful of arrangements I really like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYudO5FKgyc

For a slightly smaller commitment, here's an orchestral medley of Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross songs that I nominated back when p0 had that Chrono ranking topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fc0qQyxtuRI

Three hours might be a bit much (Im listening in smaller blocks, just like 20 to 30 minutes whenever I want to fire something up), but Ill get to the other two definitely. And will probably try the three hour video at some point, just to keep up my 100% music completion rate.

And the only VGM remix albums Ive ever heard are the two nominated this topic (Eightfold Road and The American Album) and two Undertale albums (DM DOKUROs and Smooth McGrooves). ...and I guess The Megas albums & EPs, if you want to count those as remixes. Like I said during sign-ups, its not a category I listen to much & I dont listen to many albums in general. This topic alone probably gave me more non-soundtrack albums than Ive listened to in my entire life.

(Alright so thats an exaggeration, but not much of one. Im fairly certain its true if you remove The Protomen & The Megas from my list of listened to albums, but Ive never tried counting them.)

Trigger/Cross Orchestral Medley #1: Not bad. I think I prefer the in-game versions of any tracks that I recognized, but much like SMW Fortress & SM64 Dire Dire Docks theyre firmly in the theres no real way for you to mess these tracks up category.

Shnabubu1a - Kingdom of Seals: Better than Green Hell Zone and Kyogre, but still in the wrong in a way I dont particularly enjoy category.

CORRIDORS OF TIME JAZZ: Not bad. Kinda pleasant lounge music, which I dont mind listening to.

Boss Battle 1: Oh, epic battle themes. I still do not like these. 15 points.

Close Door All Way: Ooh, this song opens strongly. Some distorted sounding instruments and low tones, both things Ive praised a lot. Some parts of it arent great, but everything from five minutes on is fantastic. Probably a high 70s song, definitely one I look forward to hearing again on a different day.

Calamitous Judgment: Not my type of thing, though I didnt hate it. Its at least not a battle theme.

Ill come back to the last three songs from post #153 later. What do we have on the list that is decidedly different than VGM remixes & ETiD... Enigma seems different, lets hit that one next.

Enigma - Sadeness - Pt. 1 / Radio Edit: Distorted Gregorian chants, references to the Marquis de Sade, French lyrics (which are more spoken than sung), and a somewhat thumping beat? Its definitely different; I like her voice and appreciate listening to something so different, but its certainly not for me. I dont think Im interested in diving into the full Principles of Lust (an 11:43 track where Sadeness is just the first part), but Ill admit it might be worth it.

Lets bounce to a song that was only posted accidentally, see what I missed there.

Shooter Jennings - The Low Road: Pretty good, though Id probably spend the entire writeup talking about Skeletor. 68-ish points?

Lets try one of the Dux Mix songs from post #137. The last one, why not, Ill go backwards on those four.

easyFun - Easy Money: Kinda weird, but... I dunno. Its like its too normal to get all the easy weird bonus points, but also not really a normal song either. Probably high 50s, maybe low 60s.

(As an aside, almost no songs final score resembled its Initial Score, so dont take these first impressions to really mean much of anything. And lets just continue this path and take the next Dux Content listed above the last one:)

easyFun - Shrek 5: About the same score as the last song, but I like it slightly more... probably like a .50 point increase from wherever Easy Money wound up.

I'd love to listen to 3 hours of Chrono Trigger remixes, but I don't like having them all in one, 3-hour video. I'd much rather listen to the individual tracks. But I see how people could prefer it that way.

Well, if you're interested, OverClocked ReMix has over 100 albums available, most of them remixing the entirety or highlights of a single game's soundtrack, and others remixing songs from various games for whatever reason:
https://ocremix.org/albums/?&offset=0&sort=nameasc

Chrono Trigger has had two different albums for it, one a jazz album, and the other a symphonic orchestra album:
https://ocremix.org/album/76/chronology-a-jazz-tribute-to-chrono-trigger
https://ocremix.org/album/7/chrono-trigger-chrono-symphonic

My personal favorite OCR album is Final Fantasy VI: Balance and Ruin:
https://ocremix.org/album/46/final-fantasy-vi-balance-and-ruin
But there are other albums I really like, too.

One of my highlights from FFVI:BaR is The Impresario, by Jake "virt" Kaufman, which remixes much of the music from the game's opera scene. It uses some of the lyrics from the game, but also adds new ones, and thematically the lyrics remind me of West Side Story. However, the style of the song is extremely reminiscent of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. It's a wild trip to listen to.

I think Ill get a bit more of Low Teens in. Nine songs left, dont know if I want to go through all nine... but lets play a bit more at least.

It Remembers: Hey, one of the two songs with clean lyrics that I was told would be on this album. Also a decent guest vocalist and lyrics that are exactly what Im looking for.

I still howl like an animal in the darkness
And Im reminded by the blood on my clothes
I cant stand what Ive become

Ah, blunt sadness and howling. I knew there was going to be something I needed on this album. Unfortunately, theres basically no chance anything else on the album is going to compare favorably to this and the next track is one Bane particularly wants me to listen to... so Ill save the rest of this album for a little later, itd probably be judged too harshly if it had to immediately follow that song, so lets find something different.

Shnabubula - Shrek 5: Might as well start here. Piano cover of a weird song is certainly different than anything Buckleys doing and I dont have to worry about losing track of where this song is, if I listen to it now. I prefer the original version of Shrek 5, but this isnt bad. Low 50s type of song.

And lets bounce over to those three Chrono remixes I left from #164. I do believe I was at a vocal cover of something.

Star Salzman - Forever Until Tomorrow: I cant quite decide how I feel about this. I prefer the instrumental sections of the song, but I wouldnt say I dislike his singing... probably one of those songs that I need to listen to a few times to really get a hold on.

Joren de Bruin & Tweex: One of those songs that feels the need to be EPIC purely for the sake of epicness and loses any beauty the original track had. Probably a high 40 point song; dislike is a bit too strong of a word for how I feel about it, but its...not quite something Id go back to.

(Oh, the song has over a minute left to go. How long these four minutes feel...

...wow, its...really trying to out EPIC the earlier EPICNESS...Is it too late to lower the score down to low 30s?)

Sole Signal - Aqueous Transgression: Ooh, Ocean Palace is my favorite song on the soundtrack and one of my favorite VGMs ever. And this is...well, not on the level of the original, but different enough to be interesting and worth listening to. Quite appreciate this one, even if its not my favorite. (Theres a very brief moment at around 3:45, where it plays the original and gets static-y for...like...two seconds. That part was fantastic.)

Okay, I think that gives a fair amount of distance from Every Time I Dies earlier song, so lets jump back to Low Teens:

Every Time I Die - Petal: 90-something points, but Id rather not comment on it.

Well, two great songs today, so thats a good day in my books. More tomorrow.

Listened to the Tokyo Philharmonic version of the Trigger/Cross Medley. Not really enough different from the other one to say much about, but I did listen to it in its entirety. Going to finish up the Dux Content songs.

Dux Content - Heart of Death: I really like this one (at least 80 points), though I dont really know why... one of those songs where I listened to it in full a second time to try to find comments and still didnt come up with anything, but I do really like whatever its doing.

Dux Content - Hero Next Door: Not a fan (too hopeful and high-pitched), but I didnt mind listening to it. Probably scores somewhere in the 50s.

Dux Content - City Break: It wasnt too bad, until the loud banging shortly before the two minute mark... kinda glad I saved this one for last... too unique for me to actively hate it (I kinda like everything from after the banging stops to the end of the song), but... ow. My official score is Ow out of 100 and I dont know what that translates into in numbers, but less than 50 at any rate.

[I took a break after that song; figured there wasnt much point posting such a short update when I was going to listen to a few other songs later tonight anyway.]

Lets try someone elses suggestions for a bit... got a pair of Savatage songs, those should be different than what Ive been listening to lately.

Savatage - When the Crowds Are Gone: I dunno. Its definitely a genre I usually like and it hits the right notes of sadness (I wasted my time till time wasted me is a pretty great line) and the slow, somber outro is definitely nice.. Im just not fully connecting with it for some reason. Definitely not a bad song though, wouldnt mind listening to it again on a different day.

Savatage - The Hourglass: Took me forever to find this song on Spotify. Searching for The Hourglass under songs didnt get me anything and I think I wound up scrolling through the track listing of every album of theirs before I got to the one that actually had this song. Thats not relevant to anything, but it does pad out this writeup.

*pulls up the lyrics and sees how long the page is* Well, this must be a long song. *checks* 8:09. Not too bad; I was expecting around 15 minutes. Alright, onto the actual song.

[*some very confused Googling after the song seems to end with half the lyrics unsung later...*]

Ah, right, booklet notes. Im aware of those (The Protomen albums rely heavily on narration thats not actually in the songs themselves to tell the story); kinda odd that every lyric source I find includes paragraphs of extra text thats not actually in the song, but I suppose thats convenient for me.

Good song, will listen to again later. (I know you want more relevant text than that, but initial reactions rarely have relevant text.)

Savatage - Power of the Night: Not one of the songs Im supposed to listen to, but I feel obligated to click something with a title like that. Unfortunately, its not great; the opening instrumental has those really low tones that I love, but theyre fairly short-lived...and once we get to the actual song, its just rather generic. Not bad, I dont mind generic rock, but... well its obvious why this was not one of the nominated songs.

What else do we have... UF8 posted a song back on post #40, so why not? Lets see what Sad Bear is singing this time? Are they still sad?

*grabs lyrics and runs them through Google Translate*

I hate myself, I hate myself the most

Yes, sad bear is sad.

Manju - Everyone (Live Version) [aka. That song in post #40]: ...Well, shes a good voice actress, but I wasnt prepared for her to be so...loud. That breakdown was louder than Buckley. @.@

Time for one short song, so lets go with one of the many Piano Opera Music Box tracks:

Piano Opera - Theme of Love (Music Box Version): Its not bad... I think I like it a little more than the other version of Theme of Love on the album (the one that was actually ranked, somewhere), though its still not quite as good as the in game versions.

Not as much time tonight, but lets see if we can finish Low Teens so that we can remove one full album from the list.

The Coin Has A Say: *forgets to turn volume down before playing song* Okay, I really should remember which band this is by now...

One of the more intense songs from the band, so its not exactly my favorite... still some good lyrics here though.

I will aimlessly wander this wasteland
Guided only by a sickness, not a purpose

Thats the right level of sadness for me. And while I wouldnt say fuck these people, fuck this place is one of his better lines, it could be nice when Im in an angrier mood.

Religion of Speed: The longest song [the band has] ever done. Alright; only a little over five minutes, so its not long though I suppose most of their songs do tend to be on the short side.

This isnt bad. Im not finding any lyrics Im especially drawn to, but theres no points that I dislike either. Likely an upper-mid tier song for the band. (Also, its tamer than most of their songs, so Im going to guess this is the only clean song on the album)

Just as Real but Not as Brightly Lit: This mixture of anger, darkness, and sorrow pleases me. Bit too intense to listen to on a regular basis, but itd be very welcome on some angrier playlists. 70-ish points.

1977: I think this is the weakest song on the album (thus far at least). No lyrics that really appeal to me (theres a reference to the Devil which... I guess is something, but its fairly minor) and it doesnt do anything really different musically to stand out. Its certainly not badI dont mind listening to it.

Map Change: The inescapable reality of existential depression.. Well, this song has potential.

Ehh... 60 points, maybe? I think I like this.

Skin Without Bones: Another in the the intensity makes it a bit hard to stay awake pilethough there is a brief part where the shouting is faint, distant, and echo-y. That was unique enough to wake me up.

Nothing Visible ; Ocean Empty: Its fine, not any real response to it.

Not a bad album. Had more songs that I liked than I was expecting it to, so it was well worth listening to, thank you.

Moving on... I think Ill try some Gunship. They werent nominated by anyone, but since I listened to rwlhs nomination of a deconstructed Eleanor Rigby, YouTube felt I should listen to their synth version of Eleanor Rigby and I said to myself, I want more synth in my life, remind me to try one or two of their most popular songs later.

So... lets try that, I guess.

Gunship - Tech Noir: The intro got my hopes way up with that spoken word intro (by celebrity guest John Carpenter, no less!), but the main singer doesnt really appeal to me and I ultimately do not like this. Good idea, great intro, but... no.

Gunship (featuring Indiana & Tim Cappello) - Dark All Day: Good title, amazing intro, and a guest saxophonist. This song is trying quite hard to push as many of my buttons as possible.

But, Im still not really into the lead singer of Gunship... I love every part of the song except the verses, which makes it hard to really score. Not that Ive been giving scores to many songs anyway. Well, lets say I mostly like it; doubt Ill get much out of other Gunship songs thoughif I dont want to hear the singer, then I dont want to hear the singer.

(There may be some value in asking Spotify for similar songs though. This synthwave thing feels like a genre I need a bit more of.)

While Im going through things i added to the list myself that no one wanted me to hear, i might as well hit the last of Throwing Coppers bonus songs.

Live - We Deal In Dreams: Definitely not their best work. But then, I didnt like most of their songs on the first listen, so I suppose it might improve if I kept listening to it.

Something different... Spotify thinks Stone the Crow is Downs most popular song and Im supposed to listen to that eventually, so lets hit that one before bed:

Down - Stone the Crow: No one can share this hurt that is mine, mine, mine is certainly blunt alright. Not a bad song, though I think I actually preferred New Orleans Is a Dying Whore.

Just so you know, Map Change is technically the closer of the album and the other two songs after are bonus tracks. Which is also the other song I said I was curious about hearing what you thought about it, I think it's one of the best songs of their discography. Just really has such a great build up to it I think, really dig the structure. Just As Real But Not As Brightly Lit has some of my favorite guitar riffing on it, especially the "they'll kill us if they have the chance" section. Religion of Speed has a really fun chorus and final breakdown section too.

I should probably take care of UF8s PMd songs before I accidentally delete the PM or something.

Enma Ruri - Hinoko: Pretty good. The auto-translated lyrics arent clear, but I feel myself connecting with them quite strongly for some inexplicable reason. Its not my favorite vocal performance, but I think itd probably get at least 70 points based on the lyrics (or my feelings towards poorly translated versions of the lyrics to be more accurate).

Souya Ichika - Kinmokusei: Not bad, its kinda nice to see her again. Probably a 60 point song.

Kano - Batsu to Batsu: Ah yes, the one who is not going to decapitate me with an axe the second I turn around. Its got a bit of a different sound to itits slightly unsettling, but in a more overt way than the nominated song which makes it...less unsettling. No clue what any of the lyrics are, but its a fairly intriguing song... probably high 50s.

...well that took less time than I expected it would.

The Moody Blues - In The Beginning / Lovely To See You: ...Well that was...

...I dont know what that intro was, but this band is far more experimental than their greatest hits led me to believe.

Not much of an update, I know, but Im taking a light day today. Like I said, Im not in any real hurry to get through the list.

Also, Im officially adding Pain of Salvations album The Perfect Element, Part I to the list; someone suggested it two years ago and I rejected it because if the Wikipedia article about an album opens with talk about children being sexually abused then Im pretty sure Im not going to enjoy things.

But technically I dont have 100% song completion until I get through it and I did love their album Be, so well see if I can get through it. At some point.

The concert would be a bit difficult. As Ive said, I do everything through the phone these daysI have only very limited internet for the computer, so downloading something is pretty much out of the question; and my phone flatly doesnt have the space for it. Its not a case of not wanting to listen to it, as a logistical not really seeing a way that happens right now thing.

Also, I kinda thought you only wanted comments on songs you gave links to... Kanos album might be a bit difficult to find, though if its easily available on a streaming site Ill add it to the list. Youre awfully vague on Emmas other songs, its just a she has other songs on her channel statement which... like, if you want me to go click the last ten videos on her channel, you could just ask?

Other than that, theres just some AZKi songs which Ill try to find now.

[Later: I see now that you posted both of them. I...probably should have clicked those links before going back the message. Well, either way, I listened to them.[

AZKi - Blue Dream: First result on Google is a live version, first on YouTube (if I copy the Japanese text of the song title instead of searching for the translated one) is a music video with a real person with a cat... guess Ill just listen to both.

One of her better songs. She puts more emotion into it than the songs Im familiar with and it is nice to see her again... still, not really a song Im immediately in love with or anything. Not enough differences between the music video version & live version to be worth commenting on, but I prefer the Live version for actually having AZKi in the video.

AZKi - I was Human: Probably the bleakest song in this topic thus far. I think I like it more than Intersection, but Id probably have to listen to it a few more times to decide. Definitely a good song though.

Going to detour off to at least the first song from that Pain of Salvation album.. Best case, I find a new album that actually can stand against their album Be as one of my favorites of all time. Worst case, dealing with an album of child rape will prepare me for whatever nominations come next topicperhaps Ill even apologize for ever saying anything negative about The Weeknd after experiencing this one. It should be an enlightening experience either way; dont expect writeups though... I have a feeling this is going to be way too heavy an album for me to voluntarily talk about.

Pain of Salvation - Used: I dont know. Its a bit more explicit than Id like, but at the same time, so much tamer than Id been expecting it to be. The main thing I have against it is the over repetition... Getting used to pain comes up 56 times.

But I...kinda like it? I mean, hearing something new (to me) from an artist with an album I love after a few years is pretty nice and I could see it having some definite use if I ever want a very angry playlist. Leaning very low 60s on this, itd be a hard sell to move something like this up, but... yeah, I think I do like it.

Pain of Salvation - In the Flesh: Well, theres the first incest child rape song of the album. Its not terrible; even without the lyrical content it wouldnt be my favorite song by the band, but there are some good verses here (if the song ended after verse 3, Id probably like it some amount)... probably a song around the 40 point tier, unless Im in a mood to give it negative infinity points for subject matter.

Pain of Salvation - Ashes: Nah, thanks anyway. I dont think this singer can pull off the dark voice he needs to fully sell this song, so it just misses the mark completely. I find myself more laughing at his attempt to growl THUS WE HURT!! than anything else. Like in theory this should either be the level of blunt sadness I want or too blatantly about a sexual relationship for me to care about, but my first reaction was laughter.

Pain of Salvation - Morning on Earth: I think I like this one. Right amount of bleakness, spoken word section... possibly a 70 point song? I do want to listen to it a few more times on different days, so its something I like a fair amount.

Pain of Salvation - Idioglossia: *gets three minutes in* ...Nah, I actively dont want to listen to this particular track. Its not doing anything that I care about and skimming the upcoming lyrics, its really all downhill from here anyway.

Decent place to take a break; Ill try to finish the album off tomorrow, since Ill have more time to listen to it then.

also i've been holding off on posting songs i've liked since noms so i guess i might as well throw them down now

Kanade Izuru - Pretender (from one of his early singing streams)
https://youtu.be/u8gyVOP0qSQ
this was in the post-topic last time but somebody offered to translate it since then so eh

obake - hope
https://youtu.be/90jgCjCnZVg
it's the same obake that did that "Virtual Youtuber no Inochi" remix from last time's post-topic i mentioned snubbing this time. seems he's changed his name to 0b4k3 since then. I've shared this song with a couple of other people but i've gotten negative reactions from both of them (one said it was the most boring song they'd ever heard and the other legitimately didn't even consider it music whatsoever), so I already kind of think it's a song only i would like but oh well i'm sharing it anyway

Roppo Rikuru - Fusen
https://youtu.be/zQPkx7n-o2M
That Enma Ruri original song happened because of this Botchi Boromaru group (responsible for that BOTCHIBOX album i think i linked some songs from in the past). I didn't notice that they also provided a song for this person around the same time until fairly recently... It's not anything that special, but i'm glad that she actually got a song in the first place. In her 3-person group, one of the members has more than 10 times as many subscribers as her, and the other has a rapidly growing chinese following on Bilibili, whereas she's still regularly streaming games like Dragon Quest 11S and Atelier Ryza 2 to under 10 viewers... I'm not sure how this song happened, but between her and Ruri, my opinion of them is that Botchi Boromaru might as well be saints.

Shikura Riwa - Defy!
https://youtu.be/0Ze0GlXxfiU
this person not only made this song herself but also the music video. She's pretty cool. This song's pretty cool!

dingerbox - puerto
https://youtu.be/_ijSnIuB5AU
one of the biggest discoveries i made since noms was this dinger person. they're (she's?) a self-proclaimed genius amateur musician who's been making some pretty great free bgm lately. tries out a lot of different genres, some kind of suck, but some are kind of great. i think this was the first one i really noticed that made me realise "wait, this person's kind of great". There are quite a good number of other ones also worth mentioning but i don't think i exactly want to outright flood this topic like i did last time so uh, if you're interested after this one, by all means feel free to blindly check their other stuff

oh yeah, also, i posted that 21st century schizoid man jam session video that they organised already, but actually getting people together for big group projects seems to be a thing they have a knack for in general, even having arranged a big Kyoto Animation group medley a year after the fire... https://youtu.be/O0JgMS1wKQo
it's a real shame they're not popular because they're definitely doing a lot of good for the scene

Ringring - Ringring to Asobou (Let's play with Ringring)
https://youtu.be/mSMD2MvVM7w
slapping this in the middle of this pack immediately after kyoani feels is probably quite foolish when it's maybe my favourite music video of last year but i'm too lazy to re-sort everything. Like Shikura Riwa, she did the music video (and art) too, though compositional credits belong to someone else here. Honestly that's fine though, it's a song that does everything it set out to do flawlessly.

Enma Ruri - Dreaming In The Night
https://youtu.be/SDbD2vgSbis
Ruri's 2nd original song, made possible by virtue of her involvement on the entas album prequel... album, which it was on. It's got some EDM trappings so this was a little bit of a hard sell to me, but it's grown on me quite a bit since then. I think it plays to her strengths quite well. In a stream around the release of her first original song, the two members of Botchi Boromaru mentioned how they considered this cover of hers to be really good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axbe4_XgtCU and i have a feeling yuzen here may have been inspired by it, as it likewise demonstrates her knack for unconventional pitches. Better than Hinoko.

ViANKiE - HIGHWAY
https://youtu.be/sSmWD3gLRVw
Ruri's song wasn't what i was most excited by though, this was. ViANKiE got an original song shortly before the release of this album, but it was an atrocious dubstep-filled mistake. I don't know how that one turned out so badly, but fortunately, the stealth release of this song more than made up for that. City pop was Emma Hazy Minami's comfort zone, and for the longest time i was convinced it also had to ViANKiE's... but i never expected she'd actually get such a song.

Yamamii - Plastic Love
https://youtu.be/-M_eU3TS1jM
speaking of city pop... (i wasn't going to include this but it was just too easy, being next on the list)
Yamamii is basically the vtuber equivalent of Camellia. He's pretty fun and quite a good musician, but memes are his lifeblood. Not really the best singer, but not bad either.

Nanahira - Crash Banjikyusu (cover of that cursed music video from one of the japanese crash games)
https://youtu.be/xKDnmx46nq4
speaking of camellia and meme songs... (i also had to)
Arrangement credits go more to Sumijun more than Camellia but i bet he was the one who suggested covering it

Yuzuha - Midnight Storyteller
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxiHXSwTeN0
not much to say here. i only found out about this in azki's 48 hour music stream a month or two ago and haven't checked it since, but it's a good song

Ayana Nana - Rainy Magic
https://youtu.be/jNonXYqU81I
Ayana Nana's that person from last time that inexplicably only has like a hundred youtube subs despite having over a hundred thousand on bilibili. She's still unpopular now, but she's posted a few more good covers here and there, as well as this original song. I like it, it's really quite relaxing.

waslemon - rainy
https://youtu.be/WU6Ar5SLV1s
speaking of rain... (okay i'll stop doing that)
MuMenkyo vocals. A rainier mood.

Kaf - Devour The Past (Live ver)
https://youtu.be/NxELvV-V24k
ensuring exposure to kaf lives get passed through. (this is from the 2nd live though... or technically, the 1.5th, as it was just the 2nd, revised performance of her first live? i wish there were any archives of it besides this clip... this was from right around when covid initially started hitting japan hard, so it ended up being a weird, streamed live concert with nobody physically attending. Her actual "2nd live" ended up being really different, with bizarre plastic model-looking 3D models that make it hard to recommend

Kitakami Ton - Anti-Joker (cover)

Kitakami Ton - Connect
https://youtu.be/H-eOxSNQibE
his latest original song

Yumeba Ku - i'm (not) lonely
https://youtu.be/Nzyg73xZrQk
another thing i only learned of thanks to the azki stream. she seems like a bit of a hiphop/rap god, there may not be a single vtuber as good as her presently

Ginshu - Tabun
https://youtu.be/MunCVAevU28
another member of VLAZE. i haven't listened to all his covers lately but the ones i have are all solid

Tenmadate Lucie/Kuryu Eruko - Roki
https://youtu.be/hCN4Hom3ry4
to say there are thousands of roki covers out there is a blatant understatement, so i'm not going to pretend this is the best one or likely very close. I just wanted to throw this on here since I've been watching these two lately since they've been hooked on some games I play (God Field and 100% Orange Juice). I've even had the opportunity to face them in both (stealth brag) so i was rather pleasantly surprised when i found out they're also decent singers. Eruko's the higher pitched one. She's a hedgehog that's supposed to be a self-proclaimed vampire iirc

Suzuka (cv.MuMenkyo) - Itsumademo
https://youtu.be/PuuHrvPKsLQ
mumenkyo's remained pretty obscure since last year but she's still been doing a lot of music work

Usuwa Suu - Narenai
https://youtu.be/DJMChlqI_PI
I forget if i mentioned it last time but remember Aries? (this person: https://youtu.be/ZDZbypqwHag) yeah suu is her. she streams these days after the Shuffle group failed. Some of them kept their accounts but she didn't and decided to become the vtuber rep of the music production label she's a part of. She actually streams these days too (though i think she did before, but only on the IRIAM platform... which, by the way, she was also obscure on, i think she only had 500 followers there and that was more than the rest of the shuffle group (500 is very much below average))

Vivienne Kensington - Yoake to Hotaru (Dawn and Fireflies)
https://youtu.be/BVSa04c2Aw0
i had to include at least one of her covers, seeing as she's been continuing to post them regularly with remarkable consistency

Kuriyama Yanmi - Hisui no Machi
https://youtu.be/ZWQ4-vlpoYA
same goes for yanmi, though obviously not quite as often as vivi with her weekly schedule.

Tukuyomi Leo - Hajimemashite, Amokore
https://youtu.be/_51eYZQBkOw
speaking of yanmi... after VGaming came to an end last year, she ended up forming a group called Amokore, comprised of her, someone named Snowl, and two new vtubers (both guys). He's the better of the two imo.

Maruchizu (Re:AcT 2020 members) - Happy Halloween
https://youtu.be/PX-ettCBxtM
A group i've found myself following a LOT more lately is Re:AcT, thanks in a large part to their newer, more active streaming members (paired with others like hano and ribon who grew on me more). The Maruchizu (Round Cheese) trio of Marumochi Tsukimi, Inumochi Tirol and Izumo Meguru are all relatively newer members that had their debuts around the middle of last year, and i was (and kinda still am) of the opinion that they mainly picked them due to a push for more streamers rather than singers in Re:AcT. This cover happened though, and while I'm again not going to pretend it's the best Happy Halloween cover out there (considering almost as many covered it last year as the year before...), it is a decent one.

MeguRuri (Enma Ruri/Hoshino Meguri) - Twins
https:/youtu.be/zq3Llyj0scE
Old history here now, but Ruri and Meguri were both in the same group 2 years ago, an exceptionally obscure one named the UraGaku Housoubu that sadly died out within 1 year. Ruri and Meguri were the first two to recover from that since they'd made solo channels by the time that happened, though these days four out of five members are active (another one's made it into the Live Union group Ruri's in now). Anyway, 2nd anniversary celebrations happened in late october and despite not celebrating it together, they did have this

ViANKiE - Tsuyu
https://youtu.be/qTg5lbzRWoY
just a solid viankie cover here

Metamoe feat.Nekozuka Taiga - Shadow and Truth
https://youtu.be/R9QLbI4ZjRU
by the way, taiga's another member of VLAZE. He's good and Metamoe is great here.

Ryugasaki Rene feat.Shishio Chris - Ora Tokyo sa Iguda
https://youtu.be/_bTwPavgkNM
for some reason, this song was circulating through all of 774inc when all the members were having their 3D debuts near the end of the year. they were really determined to revive this pseudo-meme song and it may have worked. This particular live version may not be good, but it was pretty cute. Not sure why they had Rene sing it in Chris's debut though!

Hoshino Meguri - Hoshi no Meguri
https://youtu.be/lhnIzZh5BiI
Maybe not the most creative title, but this song (also for Meguri's 2nd anniversary) was a big breakthrough for her. It wasn't her first original song, and i don't think it was even her second either (honestly i've actually repressed most of my memories of all of the others), but they were so bad that i had given up hope of her ever doing anything halfway decent after that one particularly good cover of Aimai Retsujou Lover i posted last time (https://youtu.be/vCOgwdv9dHk)
she's too good to be wasting her time doing whatever she's mostly been doing since. I haven't watched her much since but apparently she's getting more popular now, which is nice

Tenjin Kotone - Flash
https://youtu.be/Tvzx7joiNpo
kotone's still kind of a dangerously good singer compared to other major vtuber singers, whose one shortcoming is (much like re:act's shishigami leona) her voice being too ideal for songs like this... but this is good though

Haruno Koneko - The song has no shape
https://youtu.be/3HtzGnf08wA
More 2nd anniversary songs (though this is a cover). I hadn't realised she'd been around almost as long as UraGaku (and likewise started off on REALITY). She'd been close to Meguri (even forming a unit together) before then, though i don't think they've done much lately...

Kamiki Hasami and Meiran and Shiratsuki Rei - Ai ni Deai Koi wa Tsuzuku

Tooru - Hijitsuzai Girl
https://youtu.be/cTz31oagJik
not a vtuber thing for once woah (practically no different anyway) but this song somehow stuck with me of all the bms submissions, probably because it got disqualified

Hoshino Meguri - Taisetsu no Shigunaru
https://youtu.be/NSvM5fAlXIU
it's nothing like her earlier song. it's not even very good, but it's a guilty pleasure

dinger vs. Daidai Myao - Lehigh
https://youtu.be/pBqzILdPJMg
introducing the surprise best discovery i made since noms, Daidai Myao. apparently dinger composed and myao arranged the first half of this song, and vice versa for the latter half.

Kagami Mira - I Want To Be A Girl
https://youtu.be/zNmQopZv0pM
this was originally a song for mafumafu, but i didn't see that until after this so i'm more attached to this one. The song is so obviously a Hidekazu Tanaka song it hurts. These days the only vtuber he'd likely do anything like this for is Kano so it was inevitable really that this was a cover :/

Daidai Myao - YAMINABE Catfood!
https://youtu.be/Uk3SPhkUd6w
Myao act 2. he also makes good free bgm. I recently learned who they actually were and inevitably found more stock bgm in the process, but actually not free stock bgm. Also has been in rhythm games, but maybe not the ones you'd expect. I've listened to this song more than any other song last year probably help

Ken Namba - Nanairo no Ame (feat. Itai), Azalea. (feat. Sarada Mayone) and Hoshi no Yukue. (feat. Shikai Yue)
https://youtu.be/3ua7ausS3oI
https://youtu.be/kBOtnpocrvo
https://youtu.be/qfStQY31Y6o
ken namba is pretty good at what he does. i'm not really sure why his work is limited to working with vtubers specifically, but i'm not complaining

Hiwatori Asuka - Devour The Past
https://youtu.be/9usadTi2KxA
when you listened to the live version i posted earlier, I bet you were thinking "this version is good, but what it really needs is half-shirtless male vtubers in it... and uh, also guys that look like brooding edgelords irl".
... what do you mean you didn't?

wotoha x nakamurasanso x yukimurachan! x mochari x nanahira - Hyalonely Girl (Capchii remix)
https://youtu.be/R4s4hVbnCLU
there have been a lot of group covers in the denpa scene lately though this is the only one of a good song imo

MamekoChoko - Okochama Sensou(Children's War)

since neither of these two were in that other denpa group cover, why not include this too. plenty of stealth vtubers between these two songs

a minor vtuber from a minor group i looked into a month or two ago called Project NeeDeaR. seems to have good singers. they had a crowdfunding campaign to upgrade into a proper agency and recruit more members, but they failed. They're still recruiting more members though

Usuwa Suu - secret room (not that other secret room song)

on top of focusing on streaming now, her music career's properly started now too. the decision to start over clearly worked out

i posted a few covers of this last time but they were all of the short version. Evidently long version covers pretty much don't exist but hers does
it's nigh impossible to hide that her 3d model isn't very... complete, but it looks really good here in its own way

the superior Asano sister vtuber. just a simple genki song

Tsuzurime Higasa was the cute umbrella-wielding vtuber in Paryi's Chucolala group that also had a few other people i posted in the past. I got pretty heavily into watching a lot of its members, and a lot of very surprising things have happened to them in that time (unbelievably, they've actually been more popular than hololive over the past few months thanks to exploding in china). but with all the good news, there was also a pretty sad announcement last month too, that she would be quitting. And so she did, at the end of the year.
A lot of other stuff also happened in between but i'm already talking too much so anyway, these covers exist now and they're good

also actually i forgot about this but there was another mystery minai karte collab cover that surfaced a little while ago too

Ah, thats more like it. Itll be a while before I get through everythinglike I said, Im taking it kinda slow (right now Im splitting my time between this topic, some responsibilities in another topic, an FF6 romhack, and 13 Sentinels) but... well so long as Im fully caught up before August, Ill consider it a win.

Lets get through a bit more of that Pain of Salvation album. Not likely to get through it all tonight (I kinda did the opening prologue of 13 Sentinels instead of listening to anything earlier), but at least a few songs.

Her Voices: Still not quite my subject matter, but it wasnt too bad... before the overly extended instrumental. That part is just tedious.

Dedicated: Eh.

King of Loss: *halfway into an almost ten minute long song* ...Okay, Id officially take a song about a drug filled orgy to break up this tedium now.

That puts us halfway through the album! Well come back to this...some other day. Lets try the first three songs from #185:

Kanade Izuru - Pretender: I feel like I found a translation of these lyrics before, because this talk about worldlines feels very familiar. Lets say around 60 points? I almost connect with it.

Obake - Hope: Well, I like different types of ambience and this is different... a little unsettling, but not as overwhelmingly dread inducing as I like my unsettling instrumentals. Im also not sure if the song title is ironic or if Im just on the wrong wavelength again. Either way, its worth some positive amount of points (61-ish, maybe?)

Roppo Rikuru - Fusen: Fairly cute. Maybe low 70s.

Shikura Riwa - Defy!: Yeah, I said I was only doing three, but Im doing one more because...I want to. Nyah.

Pretty good, high 70s type song.

Afro Celt Sound System - North: Not nearly as interesting as Silken Whip was, but I kinda like. High 50s-ish type song.

JINJER - Judgement (& Punishment): I wasnt prepared for...reggae death metal? Definitely a new enough experience that Id give it at least 60 points, but a bit too metal screaming to be something I really love... still definitely unique enough to be well worth the listen.

Hive - Moves Within Time (1st Movement): Spoken word intro about journeying through time, not a bad start. The actual song itself is a bit dull though... it practically screams out for someone to sample it and perform a song of some sort overtop of it.

Hive - Moves Within Time (2nd Movement): Dont quite remember this one. It was a bit more intense than the 1st Movement and I didnt mind listening to it, but its very blink and three minutes have passed without you really noticing the song type... still kinda good from what little I can remember.

Hive - Moves Within Time (3rd Movement): A slow and distorted opening gives a very drugged out type ambience (which is kinda interesting) and the later parts of the song have some low tones that I like... not something I love, but I did enjoy my time with all three parts of the song. No idea why its broken into three different songs on the album, as it is quite blatantly one long song, but I enjoyed my time with it.

12 songs (technically)... not too bad progress tonight.

Going to take some time off from working on that Pain of Salvation album, so lets start with the newest song posted before I lost track of it:

PSO2 - Hello: I rather like this one. 75-ish points, probably.

And a few more from #185.. Dont know how many, well see where we are when I go to some other topic:

dingerbox - puerto: Somehow this song feels very Sega Saturn to me, though I cant place it to any specific game. Leaning towards 68 points on this one.

Kyoto Animation Medley: The thing with medleys like this is that it never stays with any one part long enough for me to fully enjoy it. I kinda like whoever starts singing around 1:17 (its not technically good, but its cute and I want cute at the moment). I dont much like either of the two singers that immediately follow the saxophone-heavy instrumental. Dango Daikazoku hit harder than expected. Stupid overly emotional Clannad.

Ringring - Ringrin to Asobou: Err... is this possibly the cute singer i praised from the last video? Shes at least in the same cute blonde child (or child-like) singer. At least 70 points; cute song, I wanted cute.

Lets try something different for a bit... eh, Im in the mood to try more Savatage, so lets try one of those. Already did the two suggested songs, so Ill just pick something myself. (Because obviously what I need to be doing now is adding more songs to the list.)

Savatage - The Unholy: Considerably more metal than any of the suggested songs from the band, but I do kinda like it. Like Ive said, references to demons and the gates of hell & Satans army are all pretty easy ways to get my attention. Probably an easy 60 point song.

And while were on that sort of musical kick, lets hit Downs two remaining suggestions.

Down - Bury Me in Smoke: Not bad, but doesnt have anything I really like lyrically or musically (and the prolonged EPIC GUITAR SOLO is definitely not for me)... I should listen to more sludge metal though; its like I know there has to be something I love in this genre, somewhere, but none of the songs Ive heard thus far have been it. Probably a low 50s songI like the genre and the general sound of the track, but have enough complaints that I dont think its particularly close to the 60 point level.

Down - Losing All: I clicked the wrong song, but I think I like this one. I know I shouldnt, the last verse is too suicidal (slit wrists, gun to his head), but... yeah, I like it. Im Lord of Misery! is so over-the-top in terms of blunt sadness that I love it and theres enough vocal distortions on the last verse that its far more intriguing than bothersome. Outro is a bit too long, but not to a point that it hurts the song too much. Im satisfied now, I was searching for one song by this band that I liked a considerable amount and this song fits the bill nicely.

Down - Eyes of the South: Intro goes on way too long... takes a solid 1:40 before the song even starts. And Im not really into the song even when it picks up; I mean, I dont hate it (probably high 40s), but Id say its the weakest song Ive heard from the band thus far.

Whats different... ZZ Ward was country, right? Thats different.

ZZ Ward - Ghost:

Were ghosts! D-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo

...Okay, I wasnt expecting whatever this was. Ask me again in a week or so.

Eh, lets try one song from that Chrono Trigger Jazz album that Kelp posted earlier.

OC Jazz Collective - Times Seal (12,000 B.C.): 51 points. Its pleasant, but Im not raving about it.

10 songs, though only 8 were actually on the list... still, reasonable progress.

I'm not a huge fan of either CT album, TBH, though I prefer the jazz one. The best song on the jazz album, IMO, is Dream of Green.
Those are just the two free CT albums; there are others out there, like Chronotorious by The Bad Dudes.

The saxophonist for the OC Jazz Collective is Anthony Lofton, another one of my favorite VGM-focused jazz musicians. I haven't been able to decide whether I prefer him over insaneintherain or not.
Here are some other songs that he plays sax on:

This third song is off of the Hybridism album, by Joshua Morse, Anthony Lofton, and Posu Yan, which arranged several tracks from Ragnarok Online. It's one of my favorite albums, particularly the tracks Samurai Discotheque and Ancient Groover. You can find most of the individual songs on YouTube or OverClocked Remix, but here's the album:

Thanks for that Spotify list! Im mostly just throwing it on random when I want some different background music, but I am using it.

And I think Ill open today by skipping ahead to Amatsuka Seu.

Amatsuka Seu - Hikaku Shoukogun: More depressing than I was expecting, but not bad. 60-something points, probably.

Emma Ruri - Dreaming in the Night: Bouncing back up to where Im reasonably certain I left off, its this song. Even with the warning about this being EDM-adjacent, I still wasnt quite expecting such a thumping beat... well, its certainly not the worst EDM-adjacent song Ive heard. Her voice is still nice enough and the beat isnt quite headache inducing.... itd probably start at the Exactly 50 point level, then move up or down a few points.

ViANKIE - HIGHWAY: 68.74 points; its got a good feel to it, its performed well, I like the lyrics well enough, but there are no aspects of it that I really love. One of those songs thats quite good and does everything right, but I dont quite latch onto as strongly as Im expected to.

Bouncing to something different...

Messgram - mother tongue (Bring Me the Horizon Cover): Surprisingly pretty. Like it a fair amount, though slightly less than Highway... 67.82-ish points, well say.

BMtH ft. Babymetal - Kingslayer: An unexpected collaboration and I prefer BMtHs singer when hes not trying to do metal yelling, but i like this. At least 65 points-ish, with more interest in hearing it again at a later date than that score implies.

Jacob Collier - CLARITY: Very fun and chaotic song that feels glitchy in a very enjoyable way, but only lasts 51 seconds. Wish there was more to it, but I enjoyed it while it lasted.

Lets try... two songs from Every Time I Dies The Big Dirty album. I already heard one of the songs last topic (Werewolf), so lets just take whichever two have the most interesting names. And lets remember to lower the volume before hitting play this time...

ETiD - Rebel Without Applause: Clever title, but not my favorite song by the band... kinda low 50s; I dont mind listening to it, but I dont think Id ever seek it out.

ETiD - Depressionista: I was expecting something depressing instead of satire, but alright, that ones on me I suppose. Song is...fine? Slightly lower than Rebel, but still above the exactly 50 level.

Piano Opera - Terras Theme (Music Box): Meh. Thus far, none of the music box arrangements have been any better than the main albums songs, so (unless the remaining Music Box tracks pick up drastically in quality) I dont think including these would have helped the albums score at all.

Chronology - Dream of Green: Also easy listening lounge music, but an improvement over the song I listened to last night. Feels like itd fit in at a pool video gamelike if this song started playing in Virtual Pool, I dont think it would sound out of place at all. Which is a good thing.

Technically 10 songs which is my personal goal per day, so I think Ill break here.

Oh I thought you might ask for some songs for The Big Dirty, you didn't listen to the main one I thought you might like, INRIhab! Other ones I thought would be good to hear is No Son of Mine (I don't think you'll LOVE it but it's a really good display of the classic ETID sound) and Rendez-Voodoo (one of their less hard songs, not one of my own personal favorites but it's still good). I personally also like Pigs is Pigs and Leatherneck but I dunno if they would be quite for you
