It works surprisingly well, although it requires a lot of setting up to get it to work. Another bonus aside from combining analog controls with mouse aiming is that certain actions work really well mapped to the trigger buttons rather than keys.

Downsides are you'll REALLY want to have a mouse with buttons, and depending on the game you might not have enough to spare (although it's still pretty easy to hit a keyboard key even with a Joy-Con in your hand for non-critical stuff like menus). Also, pray you don't get Joy-Con drift...

Defeated Theseus/Asterius on my 3rd attempt(3rd time reaching them). With the shield and mostly using deflect dashes. Completely bonkers combo.

Only to get screwed by poison in the next level. Oh well. Didn't see the wells in the rooms till it was too late to figure out.

Yeah, poison does not play around in this game.

I much prefer M&K to joystick, but that's merely because I'm used to it for isometric stuff. Absolutely use whatever you like.

Escaped 7 times(I think) ~42-45 attempts. Done it once with every weapon, the shield twice. I do not like Exagryph. By far my worst weapon. Just doesn't fit my playstyle.

Exagryph basically requires you go hard on Zeus unless you're using Hestia aspect. It's great when you do though!

Exagryph feels the most boon dependent for me.

Had my most OP luck yet with it yesterday: Got 2 Daedalus hammers that turned the special into a rocket + fired 5 of them as well as a +1xx% special damage boon.

Just dashed around firing barrages of rockets that killed most enemies in 1 hit and point blank would take off huge chunks of boss' lifebars.

Poison is also really good with Exagryph. Chill is also kinda fun, but not nearly as good as Zues/Dio builds. And basically everything is good with Aspect of Eris which is just dramatically better than the other aspects.

Exagryph with rocket upgrades always works out great for me. Especially once I got the thing that powers you up if you're in an explosion.

I finally started really playing this game. It's very addictive and fun. I just did my 6th attempt and made it all the way to Hades!! I was soo close to beating him :(
I look forward to playing a lot more and seeing more of the story and weapon and power combinations. My last run I was using the bow and it had auto fire with three shot spread, it was really fun.

I've cleared 6 heat with the Spear so far, could probably go significantly higher since I haven't failed a clear in a long time.

Fastest clear was 20 minutes with the fists, had a build where the uppercut did bonkers damage

Going for the epilogue now

I was in a position where I almost never lost a run and had a really long streak until I decided to make Extreme Hades my new baseline and I've had a lot more deaths since. >_>

Where would Hades rank among other rougelikes that you guys have played? (Specifically among a full list of the ones you've played)

It's absolutely the best rogueLITE. I think it's missing some things to make it a really killer roguelike like Necrodancer or Isaac that feels endlessly replayable. But that journey to the first victory, which is so important, is flawless.

I'm curious what your distinction between roguelite and roguelike is that Hades is a lite but Isaac and Necrodancer are likes. The fact that you get permanently stronger over time?

My first win was my 10th run, and then I won 10 runs in a row, and then quit.

(Which has led to a weird experience, where I haven't seen tons of things people mention--I didn't even get to unlock all the different mirror options (never found anywhere near enough keys). And I've seen people mention doing a special event where you fight Charon, never saw that, never got any familiars, etc...)

Basically. That the main progression is building currency and stats.

I remember doing this thing where'd I'd choose whichever weapon has the dark bonus, but it kept on alternating between two weapons I hated so I gave up on it and stuck with shield and won fairly quickly after that.

Yes, you eventually open up the room to the left of Achilles, which lets you see the results of every run (how far you got, time, boons taken, etc.).

I don't remember how you open it up though. Might just be dying enough to trigger enough conversations.

I won on about my 20th run.

Always use the thing with the dark bonus, I feel inefficient not taking it.
After that first win I won the next 4 before having to use the sword and losing my streak.

I'm thinking there are guides out there that would allow winning significantly earlier. Or just having a lot of knowledge of the game beforehand. I know personally I probably didn't have great understanding of the game til like run 8 or so. And it would be a good bit after that where I wouldn't feel compelled to hunt for keys and darkness. Probably win a lot earlier if my goal was solely stock up on boons.

A completely unknowledgeable 4th run is technically possible sure, I just think it's very unlikely.

I have a separate file where I won on my 6th attempt, but that's because I knew how the game worked, and obviously speed runners have already beat the game on the first attempt on a fresh file, but we know how the game works.

I won on my 8th with no outside help. Got to Hades 2 times before that.

You just have to use a ranged weapon and get Zeus and Athena.

Is it just me or the non-mini-boss final encounters in Styx tunnels are more annoying than the bosses? The area is so spread out, the traps are more annoying, and the enemies appear every which way.

Depends. The mega-vermin in the room with all the axe traps is pretty easy (for most weapons), but I can't stand the mega-snakestone. The Tiny Vermin, though...

Never push your luck in Styx. Once you get the sack (and the heal it gives) it's time to bounce.

I beat the game for the first time! On my 25th run at about 25 hours in the game.

So I've been doing more runs and I uh... Fought Charon?? and he fucking destroyed me lol. Is there a way to fight him again?

Same way you fought him that time, random chance of happening.

Ah ok. What are the chances, pretty rare? Can you only do it after your first clear?

You can only fight him at mid-dungeon stores, not the stores right before the boss battle.So it's a good idea to fight him later in Elysium when you're more well-equipped. I'd say he's not that rare to find, about 30%?
