yeah, i probably could. i also almost always make it to Styx with the 3 DDs active. but also i haven't really pushed to a very high heat level yet. only to 8 to unlock the first of Skelly's statues. i dunno how i am going to fare going for the other two.

i haven't even gotten to 8 Heat yet. i always pick the weapon that has the +20% darkness (both because i still have a couple upgrades left to buy and to force variety) and then i go with the next available Heat w/rewards left. my highest is the Fists which i cleared on 4.

feel like if you can handle 8 heat you can probably turn off God mode.

yeah, i'm just not good at getting the charge attack to go where it needs to go for max effectiveness, even with the bigger radius. i dunno if i've ever gotten the fast charge and the bigger radius upgrades at the same time. it just moves too slow. i can't anticipate where enemies are gonna be repositioning to fast enough to make effective use of it. same reason why i don't like the Ares Cast or Call.

i almost never rush in and charge. if i need to get in quickly and attack, i just cast, dash in and start attacking. i mostly use the spin in anticipation of a fight. so if i see an enemy approaching me, i start the charge and when they're close enough i let it rip. as enemies start to spawn is another great time to get in a good spin. position yourself so you hit as many as possible and with a full spin + attacks you'll clear 'em all real fast.

if i have Poseidon dash then i can dash in and use the space created by his knockback to grant me enough time/space to charge up at least a partial spin

Ares cast is fucking garbage and i never take it. his call can be good if you get Epic version and will shred bosses at max charge.

Yeah I agree with this. It just feels so damn weak, even with the boons that boost it I find it's very subpar. In general I kinda don't like Ares. Doom seems okay if you're using a slower weapon but in the end I'd much rather have pretty much any of the other attack modifiers. On a fast weapon I want to be stacking chill/hangover, on a slow weapon I want crits or knockback.

I pretty much only pick Ares if he's the only choice, I like the other ones all way more.

I think it's down to preference for Malphon. I thought Gilgamesh was fun but Demeter's my favorite.

You're not supposed to try to watch the poison projectiles themselves, you watch the enemies that shoot them since they have a massive very obvious windup animation. I agree the projectiles are near invisible lol

also yeah the bow sucks in general imo (the real worst weapon is the sword though)

I like using the default bow aspect with a backstab/crit build. just dash behind things and kill them in a couple shots

just got the last achievement i needed, doing a 16 heat run and unlocking Skelly's second statue. feels awesome! i had a blast with this game.

unfortunately i tend to lose interest in games once i get all the achievements in them. but i'll probably still play Hades at least a bit more. i'll turn off God Mode now too maybe, and see how i do.

I think full relationships/favors and completing the fated list is going to be my stopping point.

oh true, i still have some of those to do as well. got 4 more prophecies and a handful of gods with 1 heart left to fill, and oddly Hypnos and Hermes with quite a few left to fill. wonder what more they'll be having to say.

Hypnos' bond is apparently super long, and the most egregious and finicky when it comes to the dialogue RNG. Some people usually don't even get that one finished, and is so bad that it's presumed by some to be a bug.

i keep doing runs and forgetting to gift Gods nectar. i've done this like six or seven times now. darnit.

did a bow run last night and went with Poseidon on special. it ended up working well. for some reason i just never thought to use my special more than once after landing an attack with Chiron aspect. i'd follow a pattern of attack, special, attack, special. doing attack -> special x3 is nice.

Demeter on Chiron special is also quite nice. Solid damage boost plus you're putting on chill stacks. If you also get the boon that does set burst damage at 10 chill (then clears the chill stacks) you're doing an extra 100+ damage almost every time you hit the special button.

i did my first run with Arthur and, man, that thing is a fucking truck and i love it. but i also love playing greatswords in dark souls. i put poseidon on attack because it had decent % boost and while i was initially worried the knockback would ruin everything, it ended up working out really well except for a couple of times. i think i prefer the 2nd aspect that gives crit% on special, but Arthur is definitely a fun change of pace

working through each Pact and i finally did the one that restricts your boon/upgrade choices by 1. that's definitely the hardest, or most impactful, single pact I've done so far. i've done 'em all at this point except Forced Overtime, which i'll tackle on my next 3 Heat run

i was afraid of this one but it wasn't so bad. i definitely missed the Epic boons, but i use pom blossom almost exclusively now, which gives me like 2-3 levels on my main/early poms, and that made up for more common boons. also got euridi-bae on that run which helped on that front. i definitely noticed an increase in the non-gold leaf doors so i got more meta resources that i dont really need at this point, but the gold from gems and extra rolls from keys did help.

try it by itself and do a simple 2 Heat run with it and you'll be fine.

I don't use either of those mirror options lol

I should probably just do it and get it over with before my heat gets too high since right now I'm still in no risk of losing mode

i find the epic boost is more valuable than the legendary/duo boost because it comes into play much more often. unless i'm hunting a specific legendary/duo for a prophecy, i always go with the epic% boost.

i used the rare boost over the gold door boost for a long time until i heard Haelian mention he likes the gold door boost. i gave it a shot and i found that by the end of the run, i was more powerful overall due to getting more boons + poms

I was using the epic% at first, changed it because I wanted to hunt for the prophecy, and then decided to keep it afterward because there are a significant number of legendary and especially duo boons are kinda broken imo. Like the sort where you get them and they just kinda win the run for you on their own. Compared to a boost to epics which I'm already kinda getting halfway there with the boost to rares it just seems so much better

Yeah duo boons can be stupidly strong. Artemis + Zeus (crystals on the ground hit enemies with lightning bolts) and Demeter + Dionysus (Dion's cast now instantly hits and also does chill and more damage) are my two favorites.

I thought I'd take on Charon in Tartarus to complete the prophecy, and man that was almost a fatal mistake. Lost all my DDs because he does so much damage, and I'm not used to his patterns. Luckily I won, now to hope I meet Patroclus.

frick, i've got 11 clears and still don't have a codex, presumably because i only first talked to Achilles, like.. recently. lol. hope i can still get it.

last night i had a run using the Rail w/Lucifer for the first time. i think i like it.

hammer upgrade for unlimited ammo (but no damage ramp up)
zeus attack (epic, level 4 by end)
Art special
Art + Zeus duo for lightning rod (cast on ground shoots bolts)
Art Legendary that fires support arrow for each attack landed
Dio call (epic)
Jolted (rare)
Zeus boon for +50% damage for 15s after call

so basically while i attacked there was a non-stop stream of lightning bolts and green, seeking arrows. once i got dio call up everything around me just melted. it was neat.

on another note, i tried bow/ Hera for the first time last night. got lucky and hit Aph as first boon and got super lucky with an Epic cast. at level 2 it hits for like 165 damage on top of the damage from the arrow. if i load three of 'em into a single shot it basically insta-kills any enemy through asphodel so far. had to put it on hold b/c it was time for bed, but man, that was fun.

I've been using beowulf shield a lot, it has the similar concept of loading your casts into an attack and it's really really strong

massive aoe damage an the casts don't stick in enemies so you can do it again right away

dude for real. i regret not recording that run. i wish this game had seeds so i could share the build with you. the hermes instant recall boon with the poseidon sword was already stupid. i was trying all game for the artemis legendary. had 2 satyr rooms left (already found sack). used my last reroll on a pom of power door, artemis boon. found a well of charon, increased rarity of my next boon.

bam. legendary artemis boon. couldnt believe the luck

This game is fun and frustrating for the same reason: you can't force a build so you kinda just have to go with the flow and make the most out of what you're given. Even rerolls aren't that generous.

I try to follow build guides for general synergy ideas but I've never been able to get all the boons I want

Hardest one for me is enemies can take X free hits before taking damage. I'm a Hestia main so it trips me up big time

hardest is either extreme measures 4 or the last point in the time limit one

I don't think any of them are super hard at just the first point although things like fewer boons / no mirror talents / purge a boon per area are real annoying for the piddly amount of heat you get

Enemies 20% faster was barely noticeable for me when I tried it. The only time I tried enemies do 20% more damage, I lost to Hades after a 13 run win streak. I've been afraid to touch it since.

i am. i'm so stupid that i managed to not notice (and thus talk to) achilles or the entire left chamber until after my first clear lol. so now i have like 13 clears, have seen the credits, and he's got a lot of other things to say. I understand now that I just have to wait and he'll bring up the codex eventually. but i waaantttt it :(

this is a big part of why i find the game engaging run after run after run. yeah, the combat is fun and stuff, but it's mostly the same enemies every single time. even with pacts that change things up a bit, those are few and only change so much.

but being able to go into a run with just a weapon aspect and a dream and then taking what the RNG gods throw at you and turning that into a feasible is so satisfying. i used to rely on god keepsakes to give me the boons i needed and even then, if i didnt roll the trait i wanted (attack, call, etc), i often ended up with a shitty run and didn't escape. but now that i kinda "get it", i forego god keepsakes and still manage to escape 8/10 times. understanding the meta well enough to adapt to what you're given at the start and then making the right picks is a huge part of success in the game, and one of the most satisfying aspects of the gameplay. it's so fun to discover how certain things work well together, or don't, or when you hit that legendary you didn't even know existed and it compliments the build just exactly perfect. i love it.

tl;dr: knowing the meta well enough to make good builds given the rng in the game is half the fun
