Pretend things will change when I can retire in my 30s and I can fill my time with whatevs.

Really that didnt work but I found playing video games fills the hole so I play a lot of those now.

Find more enjoyment in the small things. Nearing 30 Im just starting to enjoy things like the feeling after working out, sunrise colors, beautiful snow, how food tastes...never really had found enjoyment in things like that before.

Joy is wherever you want it to be. Purpose is nonexistent in the grand scheme, so it doesn't make too much sense to worry about it. Time enjoyed is time not wasted.

I can fill my time with whatevs.

That does sound like something I very much want to be doing. I also very much just want to move and get a place of my own, and a job and such. That's the only tangible dream I really have. I do not really have the important things figured out: location, nature of the work to pursue, and what I will be doing in the present-day order to inch myself further to this vague dream of mine. But I do not have a career figured out yet, and I've no idea of the sort of steps I should be taking in order to advance a career I have not figured out yet. This sounds a bit silly in hindsight, and it does seem like I stress out too often about neglecting to do the latter. All the same, it is difficult for me to learn what sort of work I'd enjoy. Using the parachute method provides little insight about the career I might enjoy, in addition to making me feel worse about myself. Aptitude tests rarely give me any results that I show the slightest interest in. I am just so disinterested in life, nowadays, that any career that I might have found interesting a few years ago, just looks like sequence of meaningless words on a computer screen right now. I have trouble maintaining focus when reading a book for similar reasons. In short, I am feeling helpless at the mo', without a clue as to where next I must--or rather want to--go.

I always feel unproductive whenever I do this. I feel like any time spent on this could be spent trying to find work; recent happenings in my life have depleted my savings considerably, and I interpret this as a sign that I should have been taking my job-searching more seriously this year. Yet, after figuratively combing through job advertisements that ask for qualifications I do not have--the chief qualification, of course, being existent social skills--I cannot help but feel dispirited.

Travel

Any money I use on travel, in my view, should be saved for relocation expenses. I cannot emphasize enough that I utterly despise this state and its exorbitant living expenses that make it extremely difficult for a person like me, with no experience, no connections, and little hope of securing stable employment, for me to realize my dreams described thus. In any case, though, I don't like this state anyway, for many other reasons I've not discussed here. In any case, I am vehemently opposed to depleting my savings any further than I already have.

I just always try to do my best and find something to aim for. Achieving goals, even small goals, feels good and helps fulfill a sense of purpose. Just look at life like a game and realize it's an open world game where you set your own objectives, just way more complex.

My career is teaching, so that is regularly rewarding in its own way and helps me to create a purpose for myself. I also spend a lot of my energy on personal creative projects and that helps me feel fulfilled as well. Aside from that, I find meaning and joy in friends and family.

Purpose is overrated. It evokes notions like destiny, which are a thing of the past when gods would sent heroes on quests. We don't really do that any more. Instead I'd suggest just trying a bunch of shit to see if you feel passionate about something, then do that. Or keep doing something until you get pretty damn good at it at which point you're going to feel more passionate.

Joy comes from passion, which is part of the reason why retirement is such a killer. When you're not actively engaged, your mind, body, and spirit atrophies. Retirement is one of the most fucking depressing things in the world, it's like a countdown to infirmity and death, unless you find some new projects to motivate you.

I would definitely argue that purpose does not evoke notions of destiny automatically, it can just as easily be viewed as self given instead of God given. Like exactly what you said was a purpose driven life.

Passion is not purpose. The notion of purpose is something that you're meant to do. Unless you were raised for a specific reason (or purpose), nobody is "meant" to do anything. Passion is something you enjoy doing or want to do. Can they align? If you're raised to do something and get good enough that it that you start to enjoy it, sure, but the two aren't actually joined.

I dont want for much, and the things I do want don't cost much so I'm always at least halfway content. Plus, I always try to be optimistic (which took a lot this year) so when I'm down I can still see the brighter side.

The only place I struggle sometimes is my lack of significant relationships outside of my family.

Happiness id different for everyone. I'm not as content as I want to be but I'm still happy with the things I have in life. Family, interests and acquaintances all help. As for purpose I've always thought quite a few folk focus too much on what's to come rather than enjoying the moment. Perhaps the meaning of life is to actually enjoy life.
