It was something to do with a credit card company I heard. Rumors of certain kinds of videos being uncovered despite review processes and whatnot.

Im a little concerned about the broader implications of this. In their statement, the site says theyre the first to restrict submissions to only verified people, and then they call out a bunch of mainstream social networking sites for not doing that. I hope this isnt the first domino that leads to everyone needing to link their identity to every site.

honestly it seems like theyre right that theyve been unfairly targeted because theyre an explicitly pornographic site and its probably just as easy to spread child stuff on other social media sites, but those sites are probably less vigilant about it than the porn site is. but also I dont know, I havent looked into it yet beyond the public statement the website made.

Looking into this, I'm kind of flabbergasted that this is all coming from a total of 118 reported cases on the site over the last three years, whereas Facebook self-reported 84 million cases of the same material in the same window.

the statement from the site claims that Facebook has had millions of instances of child porn in the same time span that the site were discussing had like a hundred.
Any website that will let you upload a video file can theoretically have child porn uploaded to it, and the site were talking about obviously would take down anything and ban anyone posting that stuff just the same as Facebook would.

I really tried to think of the most absurd search term I could to keep my question somewhat wholesome but I'm very worried I said something absolutely atrocious

Sure, there are likely thousands of legitimate and consensual results included in those search terms. All I'm trying to say is that framing the issue as "they removed 2/3 of their videos because 118 were in violation of some policy," is ridiculous and ignoring the issue. Independent, and for that matter pro-porn, investigators easily found numerous examples of children being abused, or nonconsexual sex between adults, which have no business being provided by a business that wants to be proper.

Credit card issuers threatened to pull support for the site. The site tried to go through and just purge that stuff and make additional checks. Credit Card issuers again said no and still cut off payment.

Hub then purged the videos in response. Only verified accounts can post now.

HOWEVER, the problem is that a middle aged teen for the last year had posted her content there and that site even gave her an award or recognition of some sort as one of the up and coming names or something. And, that teen was a verified account also.

So, it is not exactly sure if purging these videos even helps their case or not to these credit companies.

It more has to do with public opinion, as long as the public feels the website is combating child/revenge porn the less likely the credit card companies are going to care.

I'm not sure what the verification process is, but I imagine it's tied to a person/company so if there was something illegal that was uploaded that person/company would be held liable rather than having to deal with anonymous uploads.
