Despite TLJ's problems, I actually loved the "let the past die, kill it if you have to" theme. Looking towards the future without dwelling too much on the original films is what I wanted out of the sequel trilogy in the first place.

...but then they said "lol psych", and Palpatine's back to completely shit on that approach.

Throwing out George Lucas' sequel outline, condemning the Expanding Universe (instead of adapting it), and not following from where the characters left off (Luke rebuilding the Jedi, Leia rebuilding the Republic, prophecy of the chosen origins and outcome).

Imo it was the premise of the first movie. Blowing up the republic system also killed any interest I had in the EU material of the era. The EU is basically the reason I like star wars, since all the movies are mediocre to bad.

3. Maz Kanata in TLJ and RoS
4. All the funniest bits, and some of the most rousing, are in RoS which is the worst one
5. Like all of the first half of RoS in general, when its not funny, or doesn't have Maz Kanata, which was mentioned above

I mean that pretty much was the objective, wasn't it? They abandoned the big ship and that was the only planet they could land on without getting blown the fuck up so they just had to hole up and survive until help arrived

I love Star Wars, even enjoy many moments from the sequels(most of TFA, everything with Kylo/Ben, Luke vs Kylo, Lando showing up with a shitload of reinforcements, Ben vs the Knights of Ren, etc). There's just a lot of "why/what the fuck" moments too.

I don't know if I'd consider it the absolute dumbest part, but the general sense of unbridled power creep throughout Ep 7 and 9 irked me terribly. We went from having the Death Star being the most powerful and feared weapon in the galaxy, to having a much bigger Death Star that could inexplicably hit multiple planets on the other side of the galaxy, to every Star Destroyer in a magically-conjured fleet having Death Star lasers. There's also that everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach to the mind-boggling amount of ships present in RoS's final battle that ties into this complaint, which somewhat ironically ended up being the most forgettable space / sky battle in the franchise. I hope JJ learned a hard lesson about how throwing way too much into the recipe only serves to dilute the flavor.

And for the sake of being balanced in my criticism, I recently learned that Snoke's ship in Ep 8 is supposed to be multiple times larger than Executor; this wouldn't bother me and of itself, but it does make the amount of damage caused by a regular-sized Rebellion frigate lightspeed-ramming into it more implausible.

Nah, I'm kidding. My least favorite part was that everyone could see the beam from Starkiller Base. Star Wars has never followed the laws of physics, and all its planets apparently are only a few miles away from each other, but that one really bugged me. You can't see a giant weapon firing from planets that are light years away from each other.

Oh, and on the same note, the 12 parsecs things (which is also a criticism of Solo). They should have left it as a hotshot flyboy trying to brag about something and just messing up the terminology because he's a blowhard. There was no reason to make it something real.

This reminds me of how Leia and Han named their son Ben Solo. Someone Leia never met and only knew by Obi-Wan.

Not having any sort of overall story plan what so ever for the trilogy, and just winging it for each movie.

The part where we're 47 posts in and there's enough things worse than the Holdo Manuever that no one's mentioned it as their main criticism yet.

Star Wars was only good for Episodes 4 and 5.

Then we see literal 3 days pass on one planet, and one on another, and the chase is still on.

Also, that casino planet is easily reachable by Finn and Rose and they easily hide on it, but the rebellion has to try and reach a deserted planet for some reason.

That the star destroyer gets decimated, and ripped in half yet the people inside continue to fight as if they're not in open space.

Finn being on top of the Falcon when it suddenly accelerates straight upward.

Not to mention the bumbling over what to do with the characters. Finn, Rose, Rae, and Kylo Ren all had their potential ripped out.
