Board 8 > ITT I play Pokemon X Wonder Trade Nuzlocke

Hey, so I decided to do this because I felt like playing Pokemon but frankly want to do something unique to keep me hooked in. When I played Pokemon X last, I got 3 badges and ended up with this as my team at around 35.

Talonflame
Doubleblade
Snorunt
Roselia
Tyrunt
Frogadier

And I'm looking forward to probably never actually having those dudes again because it's a Wonder Trade Nuzlocke. Rules are as follows:

• I can catch only one Pokemon per location. Once I catch this Pokey, I have to Wonder Trade it away right after. Which means I even lose my starter.
• After Wonder Trading, I keep the Pokemon I get unless it's in the same evolution line, in which case I can trade it away again.
• I can catch only once per route, per egg if I have to get one, or if there's a special encounter. Again, they get traded away immediately though.

Two questions for the people watching in the topic:

1. Should I use XP share? I dunno how busted that may be.
2. Due to the, uh, 'quality' of Pokemon I expect when I Wonder Trade, I'm debating whether or not I should be allowed to attempt to catch a Pokemon as many times as I want per route. Give me your thoughts.

Okay, so I began and I go through the beginning stuff. Do you guys care? The important thing is that my name is Biz and all my friends will refer to me as L'il B.

I picked a Chespin and named it Biscuit. Man it felt nice to fight my rival with a good Pokey at the start there. It goes uphill from here. I also caught myself a Level 3 Scatterbug and called it Not Caterpie.

And now I can Wonder Trade! My first buddy is Liam from Ontario, Canada and he hooked me up with... A level 2 Wurmple.

This is about what I was expecting.

Next up is Not Caterpie. Zander from Tazmania, Australia has given me... A level 3 Weedle.

This is exactly what I was expecting.

So what I did was I grinded my Wurmple and Weedle to Level 5 before I even looked at that trainer at the end of Route 2. I killed him easily with Wurmple somehow and then finally went into the forest where I caught a Weedle and named it Weddle.

When I Wonder Traded it away, I found BIKER from France who gave me... B0000000000B the Level 8 Skitty.

I'm glad I got one with a quality name so early. And yes, that's 10 zero's. I'm thankful to have a non-bug type now so I can actually fight Flying types now.

I feel this vibe. I abused the hell out of my friend in the woods to heal my Pokemon but in my defense my team is straight trash right now.

However, good stuff happened! I got everyone to 8+ now and my Weedle evolved into a Kakuna and more importantly, my Wurmple evolved into a Silcoon, which is good so I won't have a second Bug/Poison type!

But I caught a level 5 Fletchling on Route 3 and then called it FletchHappen because I'm not going to make Fletch Happen.

So I Wonder Traded FletchHappen and found Sammy in the United States who traded me... A level 14 Zigzagoon. Man, it's hard to really express how little I care about having a Zigzagoon.

Anyway, I go through the rest of Route 3 and then my Silcoon evolved into a Beautifly! And I get Absorb for it, so at least there's another attack type.

And now I'm in Santalune City. I feel like I want to go to the next area and see if I can get another Pokey before I try the gym leader here. Also, I have no idea where stuff is in this game, so any help on good items is appreciated!

Alright, so I went over to Route 22 to grind and get a new Pokey. My Kakuna evolved into Beedrill, which was great, and then I caught a Bunnelby I named Lola Rabbit.

So I Wonder Traded it away to Noah from New York who gave me <Insert Japanese Characters Here> the Level 13 Illumise. ...Exciting. Another bug type. And this one has the added bonus of not having any attacks. I kinda hate this.

I'm also adding a rule that I'm only allowed to use a Wonder Traded Pokey if I have another Pokemon I've leveled to their level to avoid cheesing with higher level Pokeys.

Which I solved by getting my Pokeyz to the highest level one I have with 14!

I'm about to tackle the Bug Gym Leader despite having no powers that can actually stomp them or anything, but no time like the present. Here's the squad:

X/Y and OR/AS use the same pool, so it's probably a Wurmple from an early route in OR/AS.

Oh, huh. That makes sense then. That's pretty cool.

Also, Beedrill carried the gym. Lol Zigzagoon went for the assist at the end against the Vivaroon or whatever. I think I was worried for nothing.

So like I said, Beedrill w/ Zigzagoon beat the gym pretty easily. I'm investing a lot in Beedrill for some reason and I feel like that's a bad idea. But oh well.

I went to Route 4 after that and then caught a Level 8 Budew and named it Like Buddy, in case people didn't get the play on the name. Time to Wonder Trade!

Someone from Okinawa, Japan traded me.... OMG THANK YOU MERCIFUL JESUS. Got a Japanese-named Ghastly! He's level 1 but that's okay. I got another non-bug or normal type yeeeeah.

Quick question though: is there a way to evolve Haunter into Gengar or do I still need to go through the annoying process of trading somehow? I loathe that system.

So here is where I pray I get something better again. I went to the cafe so my friend can say "lol let's be rivals" and also creepy dude with fiery red hair too. Idk. The story isn't super interesting.

But I went to Route 5 and caught a Furfrou and called it Westminster.

Wonder Trading with someone from Japan and... I get a Seaking...? I mean, I'll take the water type, but it's level 30 and given my own rule, I can't use it until I get another Pokey there. And by then who knows if I'll get better?

And oh hey some asshole had a Kadabra and murdered my Ghastly in one hit despite being four levels higher because I thought he was resistant or at least neutral to psychic attacks holy shit I'm livid. He was my one really good get here and he's gone.

Guess you made it off the bench Caterpie, you piece of trash. Fuck. It leveled fast at least and I got Confusion for another attack type.

I then go to the Palace or whatever and loop back around to Route 6 where I catch a Kecleon named Cthru.

Holy shit if only I didn't need to wait so long to use him but WOW that is one hell of a get.

I fight trainers until I go to this mansion or whatever and a dude is screaming about his Fraufau or whatever and that's where I tap out.

I need to be real. I haven't even touched Illumise at all for a long time because Illumise is going to be the first dropped after I get a better replacement since I got Butterfree up there.

Illumise just doesn't feel worth the investment. So I'm praying I don't lose anyone else so I don't need to waste anything on it.

Yeeeeah that death was entirely on me not being savvy enough. I just wish it was like anyone else. Like Illumise. I had thought that the Ghost type would cancel out the Poison weakness by resisting which is not the case. He had nearly killed my Beedrill in that fight which is why I even swapped in the first place (again, I thought that Bug type resists to counter the Poison weakness).

I think I ended up finishing him off with Zigzagoon with Headbutts. But I really need to look at my team to see who has the best Special Defense stat I think.

Alright I'm back in it. I go to find the dog Pokey and then I find... Cut. And I'm like Tessa's finally Illumise has a purpose!

Jk Illumise can't use it because it's fucking worthless.

Anyway, they decide to have a fireworks show because they found their dog lost in the hedge maze. Rich people are strange. I got the Poke Flute though so I can deal with Snorlax for the umpteenth time.

And good lord was he making it a challenge to catch him. Used Zigzagoon to take down his health and then Skitty to whittle him down and sleep him. I called him Eggman.

Time for another WONDER TRADE. Kakiri from Oregon gives me........ A Level 5 Zigzagoon. Lol Re-Trade!

Ash from Florida (not the same as the Anime character) gave me a Pikachu! Okay! Okay! Okay! I'll take a new type! But he's level 30. So I can't use him. This rule is kind of screwing me over. Lol

You live to see another day, Illumise...

That rule probably works super against you in a Sword/Shield Wonderlocke, since I'm sure there's so much level 60 trade fodder from post-game Wild Areas and 5* raids being handed out.

Lmao my first trainer battle now and it's a Smeargle and I'm like nbd. BUT OH WAIT IT HAS EMBER AND BRICK BREAK. Literally all of my Pokemon are two types weak to both of those attacks. I made it through though.

But good news! Zigzagoon has evolved into a Linoone. That feels like a downgrade in name and style.

But I catch a Roselia after so I can Wonder Trade again. I named it Kissed By A.

Alex from Germany deigns to give me....... A Level 3 Pidgey. There is one positive to this, and it's that I can box Illumise finally.

I got terrified when I ran into a dual battle with two Smeargle but they all did shit damage so it was easy.

Oh and I found... The Battle Chateau? Okay I guess let me know if I should seriously fight in this thing and at what point.

Wait I accidentally fought some chick with a Ladyba. And then a chick with a Flabebe! I'm thinking this is just going to be a grinding spot.

I go forward and an unfortunate combo of those losers Trevor and Tierno want to fight me and I guess my rival? I say unfortunate because Pikachu could've wrecked me and Corphish with Sword Dance was scary. I used Linoone to wreck Pikachu and then Beautifly came in to mop up everyone else.

I went into a cave and I caught a Whismur I called Screm. Time to Wonder Trade it!

The Wonder Trader is Justin from Wisconsin who gives me... Poochyena. Unfortunately, I have a Mightyena waiting in the wings so I re-trade!

Igwan3 from Wallonia, Belgium gives me... Shroomish? I have never heard of this Pokemon in my entire life but I love him because it's not Normal or Bug type (presumably). I was able to verify it is indeed a Level 5 Grass type.

OH NO AN AXEW ALMOST ONE SHOTTED MY PIDGEY. Oh my God please don't kill my Pokeys with unique types. Thankfully this battle allowed it to evolve to a Pidgeotto!

On Route 8 I caught an Absol, took one look at it's fucked up head and called it Venom Snake. And we trade!

My Wonder Trade partner this go around is ironically Boss from Sweden. He gave me a Roselia! Now I guess I'm cursed to get Grass types too.

Oh no these trainers have level 19 Pokeys now. I basically book it to the Ambrette Town because I'm a hungry boy.

But when I get there I make the call for my team... I decide to replace Beautifly with Shroomish. I'm sorry Beautifly. You've been here from the start. But Butterfree is basically you and I don't need your grass attack anymore. Not sure if I replace anyone with Roselia though, but I went with Shroomish to avoid another Poison type.

I got a Helioptile who I named Mr. Floppy on Route 9 to the Glitter Cave. Time for a trade!

Jay on, a fellow Californian, gives me... nut. It's a level 1 Phione though! I looked at the stats and the original trainer is YourMomGay. Classic.

So Skitty is getting the effing boot now.

So I go to the Glitter Cave and then catch me a Lunatone named Angry Moon.

Wonder Trading it now to Joe from Massachusettes who gives me.... A Bunnelby. Gross. But I can actually trade this back in that one town for a Farfetch'd to trade again at least!

So Team Flare are like awful, right? Their MO is so dumb. It's not just me, yeah? Anyway, I got a scare against the one female one with the... Green sludge spewing thing? Almost killed my Pidgeotto. Team Battle was easy since Butterfree was built to murder them all dead. The Jaw Fossil is my choice because frankly it doesn't matter here.

I took my fossil back to get turned into a Pokey. I got a Tyrunt wich it doesn't let me change the name of. Aww. Oh well! Time to trade!

Weekend, also from California, gives me... Geodude! Not bad. I'll take it. Sucks I need to trade to get Golem though. Do I replace Beedrill with Geodude now? Beedrill has gotten so little play lately. Hmm. Or I could replace Zigzagoon with him. Hmmm.

I'll think on it as I break for a while!

Anyway, Wonder Trade! Mark from Texas gives me... WT the Level 10 Pancham! Man he seems like a good option too. Decisions. Maybe once I get everyone on Linoone's level.

Side note, it's raining and that feels like it sucks considering I need to fight through a bunch of water trainers.

So I go to South Route 8 and fish again for another Luvdisc. Lol I call it Flatterhead.

But I'll tackle the gym leader here soon! Oh I got the Strength HM too. Ugh. I hate HMs so much.

Anyway, my main Pokeys are all level 21-24. Not sure if I should grind a bit to get a better squad before I go after the gym or not. Break time though!

Also Phione doesn't learn an attack until 24. Debating whether or not to call it a wash and push another Pokemon because I don't think I even have a water TM for it.

It can learn Return, but I'm not sure it's worth it. Maybe if you were still running with the bugs and Skitty, but you've gotten enough good stuff recently that I'm not sure that it's worth carrying this thing around until it learns a move or you get Surf.

I put back in Beedrill. I was going to put in the panda brawler thing but then I saw that Shroomish evolves into a Grass/Fighting type and I'm all about that. Lol

But I go to Route 10 and catch me a Snubbull and name is the Bull God shoutouts to Kid Rock. Wonder Trade time!

May from Navanut, Canada gives me... Togepi! You know, I always hated Togepi. I blame the anime.

I give Linoone Strength tho. Fight a Psychic trainer. "Wow! You and your Pokemon's power levels are incredible! They're over 9,000 for sure!" Some localization member is super proud of that one.

WELL BYE BEEDRILL. Some Dunsparce had Ancient Power and then knocked him down a lot, and then I tried to switch to Linoone and it used Pursuit. Fucking hell. Skitty makes it back in as a result.

Basically, I don't want to invest time into grinding another Pokey up until I get Geodude matched with everyone else. Then honestly I don't know who else to put there. Reeeeally wish I was at level 30 to use some of those guys by now.

What? Shroomish is evolving!? I got me a Breloom now thank goodness good news now. Oh baby we got that MACH PUNCH now. One shorted an Eevee with it right after. I love it.

I made it to Geosage Town now so I'm going to go back and do the gym! I went to the connecting cave or whatever and then almost lost Geodude and Skitty to a fucking asshole Lvl 13 Axew who had Dragon Rage. Who is the asshole who made that call holy shit. So no we're doing the gym first before I backtrack. Ffs.

Anyway, I guess I need to climb the Astrocrag now to get my gym badge. Here is a summary of the Gym: Breloom fucking carries. If I can't Mega Drain it to death, I Mach Punch it to death. Gym leader was so easy and I mostly got Breloom overleveled for him entirely because he beat every enemy on the way up to the leader. He went from like 23-27. Breloom is now my favorite.

So I'll just ask then, what should I do from here? Should I bother with Battle Chateau stuff? I'm going to backtrack and do some stuff I know I missed with the mountain area for sure. Kiiiind of holding out until level 30 to get Seaking and Pikachu in on this action.

Effect Spore. It's pretty nice tbh.

Effect Spore is pretty decent, better in game than the other standard ability.

It's too bad it doesn't have Technician, the hidden ability. Increases the power of moves that have 60 or less base power by 50%. Really useful on Breloom, bumping Mach Punch up to 60 base power.
