They're both adaptions of the same manga (I believe), but Ultimate adapts the whole story and the original goes into filler. Ultimate also has higher production values.

I thought it was pretty entertaining aside from the weird ""comedy"" segments.

Finally got around to continuing Happy Sugar Life after I watched the first two episodes a few months back (or at least I think it was that long ago).

Finished up episode four. This has some of the creepiest characters I've seen in a while.

Huh, that's Ghibli? It doesn't necessarily look bad, but considering how strong they are with 2D animation and elaborate backgrounds, the 3D just doesn't measure up, for sure.

It's a fun series. Great characters, great story, great game action. It's an older series though (from 1998) so the art and animation is a bit dated.

Finished Twin Angel Twinkle Paradise. That was fun (and stupid). Though I don't think it surpassed the stupidity of Twin Angel Break, which I need to rewatch in the near future. Need to check out the OVAs too.

Three more episodes of Happy Sugar Life. It's been pretty interesting so far, despite the over the top nature of most of the characters. I didn't really expect Satou to to kill her friend. I know she has killed before but it seemed like the previous ones were a little more murky justification-wise, once to save Shio from strangulation and another time with those guys in the park. Not saying the latter is necessarily justified but it was a little removed from the straight up murder she just committed.

Anyway it has a "low" score on MAL (I think a bit under 7 which like barely anything does) so I am expecting a tragic ending that pissed people off.

every season me and a few friends do an anime draft where you gain points if you pick shows that end up scoring above 7 and lose points if they score below 7

so I can say from first hand experience that this isn't true at all, there are a ton of shows every season that end up below 7 lol

Yeah, my statement was pretty inaccurate if you start looking at more entries. It did seem that the majority of stuff I've personally looked up was above 7 though.

Also, MAL has my account under lockdown. They had some security breach a while ago and I think mandated password changes. Despite remembering my old password, I just don't remember the email I used to make the account so I can't set a new one. They had like a ticket or appeal system and I tried a couple times explaining the situation but they still wouldn't give me access. I thought knowing the old password would be enough but I guess not.

Not a huge deal but the account was over 10 years old so it was kind of a shame I lost it. I still haven't bothered making a new one but I made an "anime planet" account because I like making lists.

But yeah sorry just had to air out my MAL beef.

Finished Happy Sugar Life.

Not as tragic of an ending as I expected, but still pretty tragic in a lot of ways.

Glad the good guy won at least, though it seems like a hollow victory at least for now. Provided there isn't some legit possession/soul meld paranormal shit going on, there's hope Shio can eventually recover and realize what was being done to her.

I thought it was a pretty good/solid show overall, held my attention pretty well, especially toward the middle and end. I thought the last episode was pretty well done, it made good use of all the tension it built toward the final confrontation between Sato and Asahi.

If these are the real designs (I'm pretty sure they are at this point) then I'm hyped for this series. Midriffs are back in style, the multi-colored hair of the middle pair looks great, and the red Cure in particular just looks absolutely gorgeous to me. It looks like the two on the right are one pair, the two in the middle are the main pair, and the one on the left might actually be a human (mermaid?) form of the season's fairy and not a Cure herself.

No episode of Sleepy Princess In The Demon Castle this week (at least not through legal means) because the TV networks in Japan are showing a golf tournament instead. It might still air on a premium streaming service (and therefore eventually leak online for pirates) but it's not on the normal TV schedule in Japan nor on Funimation's streaming schedule for us here. It's unfortunate, but understandable given the situation.

Even if the episode does leak online, I'll wait out the week and watch it in Funimation as I have been up to this point.
