Libertarians want a much better healthcare system than the Republicans or Democrats can provide, so they're okay with leaving Obamacare up for a while until that's achieved. But Democrats would rather (and did in large numbers) vote for Trump than to admit help from libertarians.

I just don't see much difference between the Republican plan and the Libertarian plan.

The Free market isn't a solution. Nobody should ever have to go without life-saving treatment because they can't afford it. The Free Market does not solve that problem. In fact the free market doesn't solve many problems at all! Just look at rural broadband! Or University of Phoenix. Or Trump University.

I've heard about the whole child porn thing and I have no defense for the optics of it but I also don't know much about it, so that is pretty fucked up. Like if well wear shoes that are the product of exploited children, whats the problem with child porn which is also a product of exploiting children.

i barely know who Vaush is so im not the best source on this, thats just my recollection of someone elses explanation

Arizona and Georgia are two states Obama didn't carry in his 2008 landslide so it is just a nice indication of where those states have been going. I think the 2022 senate races there are going to be super though just because of it being an "off year, opposite party in the white house" kinda thing that you almost always see. I think Kelly is a great candidate though so maybe he survives.

yes this is his explanation. a very poorly constructed, intentionally baity way to goad someone into a "no ethical consumption under capitalism" discussion. note i am saying that is *his* explanation and not that i am absolving him of the statements for it. it's a bad argument and an absolutely fucking moronic and revolting way to try and make it. the majority of fuming/(cyclo?)'s claims are at least rooted in truth (no idea where the trans thing comes from, have never heard him say anything like that and i go out of my way to find controversy like this) but are the most uncharitable, removed from context and of any of vaush's statements or his overall body of work versions of the truth. vaush is an idiot and far from my favorite for plenty of reasons but that list of accusations is twitter-fueled, clipped and exaggerated anger from people who dislike him for like...shitting on chapo all the time or whatever (and right wingers ofc)

like if you want something legitimate to cancel vaush for, let it be his sexual harassment and pestering of internet friends. that's at least a real thing that isn't incredibly removed from the context it happened in (altho still greatly mischaracterized)

It looks like the reapportionment is gonna hurt the Dems by like 4 EVs on baseline or something unless they can start winning TX, AZ, NC, or FL semi-reliably (all of which I believe are on track to gain EVs), so hopefully they can manage to keep pushing it bluer (also given this year's House losses and the fact that the GOP's gonna be able to redo a lot of their gerrymanders to account for the new Dem coalition, I think keeping the House in 2022 is going to be very hard).

yeah sorry i didn't mean to imply he shouldn't get dragged for that take either - i realize the last thing i said with the harassment stuff might indicate that but that was mostly just me trying to make a jab/bring that bit into the discussion.

absolutely a terrible take and one he admits was terrible and dumb. i hate and feel gross defending vaush but i very very much dislike how comfortable people get throwing out misinformation and mischaracterized attacks like that. vaush wasn't defending child pornography and saying he doesn't see why it should be illegal and that's always the claim of people who bring it up.

the majority report. unfortunately not quite as good since michael brooks' passing, but emma vigeland just joined and is wonderful, and there is a wide range of like, more center leaning but still progressive sam seder and all his various cohosts and producers who are a lot more radical and diverse in their opinions. thought slime is good, but can be rather condescending, a little doomerish, and a little too far down the irony and apathy poisoned well that a lot of these types seem to end up in (a la chapo). big joel is good. we're in hell is good. jack saint, though he is primarily entertainment media focused, all his stuff is definitely through a leftist lens. non-compete can lean a little too hard into the "defending authoritarian regimes" maybe sometimes but in general is quite good and offers some international perspectives.

i can give more as i think of them, this is just off the top of my head.

also if you like twitch streams/something to have on in the background a lot like people do with cnn or something, hasan's stream is great for that. streams every single day for like at least 8 hours starting in the afternoonish. usually around 11 or 12 PST i think.

I wonder if Martha McSally, now having lost two elections to Democrats, will get the hint and stop running for Senate in Arizona. As for reworking the gerrymanders, the tough thing is going to be predicting whether the unusual Republican strength with minority voters this year will be a continuing feature of the map or if it is limited to President Trump.

Also I know people aren't going to like this opinion I hold. I think the only way Biden runs for a second term is if Donald Trump survives to run again in 2024. Biden is really good at keeping his poise but you can absolutely see the cracks in his composure with Trump every now and then. The disdain is absolutely there.

(I think theres a meme with Biden and Obama that goes along with this line of thinking)

Luckily, I don't think Trump will be in good enough health to make a 2024 run, but worse has happened, so it is a possibility. Though admittedly, on every level I'd prefer someone younger, even if they aren't as progressive as I'd like.
