Reminder: Puerto Rico would probably be a swing state, and even if it were a safe blue state the GOP would still have a huge advantage in the Senate.

(We should make it a state anyway if Puerto Rico wants it, but only because it's the right thing to do. It just doesn't really change the balance of partisan power.)

DC should definitely be made a state (though it always should have been). Puerto Rico should only be made a state if that's what Puerto Ricans want.

Abolishing the electoral college would be great, but actually doing it requires a constitutional amendment, and the interstate compact scares the shit out of me with the possibility of SCOTUS declaring it's invalid and swapping the results. Really what you would want is a constitutional amendment that both abolishes the electoral college *and* guarantees the right to vote for any American citizen who's over 18 and not currently incarcerated.

Unless said limits were done through a constitutional amendment a future Congress could always remove them.

Corrik, if Republicans are rejoicing because they got their "Roe vs. Wade and Obamacare are dead!" judge, why SHOULDN'T Democrats feel upset at that same stuff? Why shouldn't we take the GOP at their word with regards to why they wanted to force this justice through in the first place?

Court expansion isn't popular enough right now. Sadly we need some truly terrible rulings from the new SC to sway voters.

Think of how Obamacare was unpopular until people suddenly saw the GOP ready to take it away. If the SC rules the ACA unconstitutional you can bet your ass people will suddenly approve of a court expansion.

Expanding the court makes court expansion a legitimate tactic for both sides going forwards. It would also turn off moderates and make the inevitable backlash against the Democrats even worse than usual. It's entirely possible the result would be a temporary win for the Dems, followed by the election of a GOP majority large to reverse it and amend the Constitution to prevent future reform attempts.

Honestly, we should just start ignoring all Supreme Court rulings. Invalidate the whole thing. They're pretty worthless anyway. After all, if they can change their mind on things like Roe and Obergefell, they can change their mind on Brown vs Board or literally anything. In order to get rid of the two party system we need to get rid of the Electoral College and need Ranked Choice voting. We'll never get there, though, because that requires a constitutional amendment and the EC benefits small states in ways in which they don't want to give up.
