They were playing rap music at 11:30pm with crazy bass on a Thursday night and breaking the county noise ordinance during weeknights.

I felt like such a Karen but fuck it, I needed to sleep because work in the morning.

Cops came within five minutes and handled it.

Nah, screw people that hold no regards for their neighbors. It's not unreasonable to want to be able to sleep when most people do.

I remember when I was like a teenager and cops would try to shut down our parties because the music was too loud. Back then I thought the neighbors were assholes, now that I am in my late 20s I actually get it lol

I wish I could do something about this asshole on my street with the loud motorcycle. Dude goes ripping out of here at 2 or 3 in the morning every single day and doesn't give half a shit about how much noise it's making. I don't even think he lives here, just spends most of his time at his friend's house

I agree. Plus we have a home owners association (thank God). People need to comply and be decent. It's a weeknight. If it was a Friday night, Saturday night or late Sunday night I wouldn't have said anything.

If they had of just come to the door or called me and said something I would have totally turned down the music and said sorry. When you're drinking you don't always realize how loud you're being.

But instead they just called the cops. Fuck people like that.

And I've tried to tell my neighbors that their dogs that they keep outside all the time constantly bark and bother me and keep me awake at night. The response that I got was them telling me to go fuck myself, that dogs bark and they're going to bark, and one of them threatening to fight me in the street. So fuck off with your idiotic assumptions that everybody will react the way that you would.

This is not necessarily true. If you KNOW your neighbors are cool then yes that's fucked up. If you don't know if they're cool? You don't have to feel obligated to go talk to them yourself and risk making things toxic if they confront you badly.

They should already know to have respect. If anything, THEY should ask if it's okay to play loud music that late for a special gathering.

You can have a million hypothetical reasons why to call the cops first but the fact of the matter is you shouldn't ever needlessly escalate a minor problem. You're literally sending armed people to your neighbor because they may or may not realize how loud they are being. Talk to them first and if it continues to be an issue then bring in authorities.

That's cool of you, but lots of people are not so respectful when they are drunk. And honestly, in this situation I would much rather call the police who deal with this all the time than have to get dressed and go knock on someone's door in the middle of the night.

Why should they have an obligation to talk to you first when it's a very real thing that assholes who react very badly to things like that are all over? You're the one being the ass in the situation but you're acting like a victim.

This is why it's important to build a rapport with your neighbors and develop a sense of community. Talk to your neighbors and get to know them so that you can have a better idea of how to act. Gambling with their lives and the lives of everyone around you is not an appropriate first response to a noise complaint.

What lol? I live in a brand new built sub division my house is about 400k lol. You think college people are the only ones capable of making noise? I dont live anywhere near a college town and were the youngest people on the block

Me calling the cops on drunk people being loud would not make me responsible for something bad happening. I wouldn't be responsible for it if the drunk people escalate things and cause violence, and I wouldn't be responsible for it if the cops escalate things and cause violence.

You made the right choice by calling the police in this situation. Acting as a neutral go-between in neighborly disputes is a big part of why the police exist.

Theres no sense in approaching people like this. If you dont feel safe confronting someone for breaking the law, then call the police. They probably just got a verbal warning.

Also, suppose you go and discuss it with them and they say no? Then what

If the cops get called on them, guess who they're going to think it was that made the call?

At least it you call the police without approaching them you still maintain the shield of anonymity
