Yeah. But Ive tried and struggled for top 20 even for her a lot. This felt like the year it needed to happen, like this was the strongest shed ever be. Like Vincent a couple years ago, that was his max, or Cloud the year we got him the win. I knew by top 15 that
1: We were going to have a really good shot to win
2: We damn well better win, because this is his shot; and hes never coming this strong again.

And watching from afar that is how Aeris looked to me.

I don't get how some of you guys can watch the topics and just not save, even when your favorites are in danger. The year where I missed most of the contest I had to make sure not to watch the board. Even the one time I did spot the topic I broke instantly when I saw Paine in the final two and saved her

Aerith gets to final 4 instead of Tifa for sure, but I don't think enough people have played Remake to appreciate the character change, and she runs into the same problem Tifa did: Day 97 and 98 belongs to the obsessives (pre-pingers who are simply auto-refreshing to catch rounds, despite whatever certain users think.)

Maybe if there's an overwhelming number of H1 savers who show up in that hour, but otherwise lining up the H2 deals and getting in early is more important than anything and I just don't see it outside me and maybe 1 or 2 other people. Could easily get blocked in 3rd place like Garnet was. Though maybe Aerith's survival causes enough butterfly effects to result in an endgame with enough eliminations lining up those people on her side but I still think she loses vs. Squall and some other finalists, though maybe you're right and she could win.

Trim the field down to shorten the contest just a little bit. 99 days is too long.

I saw you did 2-eliminations-per-round in the early stages of SMW and think that was a good idea tbh. Keep it to 1 elimination per day in boots but then expand it to 2 a day for a stretch of time thereafter.

This actually reminds me of something I threw together one time but never posted, trying to tie together SMFFFC to the catholic liturgical calendar:

100 through 76: Easter
-Betrayals
-Sacrifices
-Fallen characters can rise again in 1 or 2 contests

75 through 21: Ordinary Time
-filler space between Easter and Christmas
-"ordinary" really refers to the ordinal numbering scheme but this is a pretty ordinary part of the contest, all things considered
-Most of the liturgical year (2/3), most of the contest

20 through 1: Christmas
-best time of the year
-finish line/end of suffering is in sight
-sometimes get a great gift but usually end up with a lump of coal in the finals

I will say that the biggest reason I pulled the trigger on Delitas megapush was because Aerith, my backup at the time, was lawyered.

1. They're not Final Fantasy characters. I don't care too much about their contest status (whether they get kicked out or they're grandfathered in until being booted) but yeah they don't actually belong.

Delita really powered up near the end (he got like every saver from two straight eliminations, it was crazy) but he was weak before that, so yeah, even a small thing that pushed him another round probably made a huge difference

I had two characters that I felt gave me the biggest pocket of saves going into the top fifteen from the lists: Cecil and Barret

I still saved them occasionally with my free saves >_>

Then again if Cecil doesn't get dragged past Kefka, Kefka probably makes the endgame run and then we get the much-desired Squall/Kefka finals...?

Double rounds are great when they're announced in advance. Otherwise when the round is over I'm usually done for the day and wouldn't appreciate a surprise round later that night

It's kinda sad so many people are interested in pre-announced, scheduled, scripted rounds. It makes it all very, very boring. You can see all the results coming from miles away that way. I really miss the old way when no one was safe any given day. For fans of less popular characters, it's a treat to see behemoths sometimes get surprised.

I mean if we go from years of never having had an unannounced double round to suddenly having one with no warning I'd be perturbed, but if it's made clear up front that chaos is the name of the game I guess I'd be okay with it.

Unlike most of you, I'm still up at 3AM normally! I'd be king of the midnight rounds

1. I don't really care either way but a bunch of people hate them being here and the Edea mains aren't even bothered so might as well dump them.
2. Whatever people prefer as long as it's not unintelligible.
3. 100 places seems fair but if it's too long a commitment then a few less rounds wouldn't hurt. I'd consider increasing the number of hard boots just to shake it up more every year and stop characters from coasting through by default, but idk.
-Varied start times would be more fair to the users across the world and it'd discourage the rest of us from obsessively stalking the board all day, but again it's whatever's easiest for the host so I get not changing it.
-More saves required in the final few days, it feels too quick as is and it just depends on who gets to the round first. I feel like they should be slogging it out, kicking and scratching to really earn those last spots!
-If some people really are scripting to get here early then that should be stopped.
-Maybe some kinda predictions contest or something where people predict the top 5/10/wtv and whoever does the best gets a free nomination the next year from the others who participate, like Guru.

I am kind of torn about the Bravely Default thing
On one hand it really is not Final Fantasy and shouldn't be here..but.. Agens and Edea are having very strong performance so there might be a reason behind them, no? I mean if they are strong enough and people enjoy having them in the contest, this might ruin their enjoyment
But if the only people that actually main them are doing this for trolling reasons and not because they like the characters... then remove them, really

I should probably have made it more clear that it wasn't trolling and I do genuinely like Edea, but BD just isn't Final Fantasy; it's a loosely-related spinoff at best. (This wasn't an opinion shift caused by BD2; I was for removing BD even before these last two contests.) It also reached the point where I was receiving hate PMs over it, and a large portion of my negative reputation is probably because of Bravely. It's just not worth it for me.

honestly all the talk of making things MORE difficult and MORE painful for participants is really discouraging, but if you do 24 hours of rounds then people like me are going to win so, that's fine.

I mean not me next year since I'm hoping to be casual and not super obsessive. I'd rather just make things easier and less painful for everybody involved. Less pain, more fun. There are people who are sacrificing for this, don't make it harder on them. Look at what Nanis has to go through every year despite being in an even worse time zone than the Europeans, lol.

Plus, set start times or start windows neuters the pre-ping "early crew" since everyone's on a level playing field. Maybe the tradeoff is more predictable results like v_charon says, but you can still have people missing despite a set start time. If they're in a meeting at work or they have an appointment or something, a situation you can't access your phone. SMFAS's pretty reliable start times were great and I don't feel it diminished that contest at all? Though it also had a great winner (and an even better 3rd place...)
