It's not revisionist history to say "he did bad things too".
It's pointing out different things, it's not being made up or anything. How you feel about it is a you thing, not a history thing.

You mean as shocking as people not knowing the "real history" of anybody else with a holiday and who still want a holiday for those people? What a shame that you'll never find somebody completely without sin to have a holiday or a statue, so therefore we shouldn't have any holidays or statues.

Of course, the other question is whether you know the real history of the holiday itself

culumbus was a sex trader - false, he opposed it, which makes sense since he was a devout religious man (which is part of why the left hates him so much)
culumbus committed genocide- false, around 90% on natives were wiped out due to disease the colonizers brought with them, which is bad but unintentional

Kids are just excited they get a day off from school and Adults are just glad to get a day off work.

Anyway, first I have heard how he was a horrible person, if true should be taught in schools but that webpage also has zero sources so I will take this with a grain of salt till someone poasts sauce.

Yep, although I believed that before seeing the video (I think you linked me to the video last time we discussed it in fact). I have pretty much always believed (after I was a kid) that god split himself up into countless individuals in order to fight boredom, blocking himself off from the experiences of each, so as to make them new each time.

To me, it makes the most sense, and is a...for me, viable explanation as to how you could have a god that wasn't a sadistic bastard who allowed people like hitler etc to be born (since he could easily determine what was going to happen (ti's all math but thats another subject), he could easily ensure hitler was stillborn/aborted etc so none of that suffering happened.

Honestly, existence HAS to be unpredictable in order for it not to be boring as...well hell lol. Hell is knowing everything that is going to happen before it does, heaven is not remembering the past and experiencing things fresh each time.

Im willing to bet its the latter, because if you look at human history, its the same across the board, and the natives here are treated quite well by comparison to say, some peoples that dont even exist anymore.

But that would be devastating to their case, so such points should never be made.

Yahweh was always a sadistic bastard. Moses, Job...Noah...hell, the Tree of Life in Eden?

Hell was never meant for Man, it was there to punish the Fallen after the Rebellion. Holding Man to the same standard as the Choir when Man was given Free Will in the first place is about as sadistic as it gets. Yahweh is cruel AF and makes most other pantheons look tame by comparison if you look at the details.

Depending on your interpretation of the bible, hell isn't even mentioned that often, not even talking about how a rebellion of the angels wasn't mentioned in the slightest.

without the apocrypha, you're forced to take the text at face value. don't get me started on the Council of Nicea...imagine Taking say, the entire Dragonlance series, and just ripping out pages and entire chapters of already established canon and saying this is what the authors intended...and that series was written by 2 people, not dozens. We get 4 PoV books with very minor differences concerning Jesus, but any other character in the OT just gets the one.

the entire "bible" as we know it is a mess, cobbled together around the sensibilities of a very tiny slice of time despite it asserting itself as a definitive work for all time afterwards, and there being dozens of contradictory and contemporary texts and alternate drafts to just about any book of the bible.

Oh sure, and there are a bunch of letters that have had their context stripped out so we can get a quote about love to say during a wedding ceremony. We've had multiple times where people go through and canonize things and make things apocrypha.

Oh yeah, no disagreements there.

I just don't agree that hell was created as a punishment for angels. Without the apocrypha we just don't really have Hell, and demons are these weird air-spirit things. But, with the apocrypha, hell was created before as a broad "not holy" place, not created after the fall of lucifer, so humans aren't given the same requirements to get in, it's just they happen to be there too.

even worse. if Hell was intended to punish the Fallen for demanding a say in controlling Men, what sense would it make to give them control over the Men sent to Hell? Nothing about the "Demons tempting Men" narrative holds up to in-universe logic of any sort.

Yeah it's a little hard to apply the Civil War thing to the whole of history, since that was a section of the country that was very bitter. Naturally the side that lost is going to fudge the facts or strip away certain nuance. Japan has done this continually since 1945, and it took over 70 years to concede they might have done some fucked up shit in the war. As I understand it their curriculum still glosses over some points.

What's being talked about is not rewriting history, his deeds aren't being undone. He still was the first eurpoean who went to the americas, and talked it up. Pointing out other things doesn't make the initial things untrue. It makes it more complicated. History is extremely rarely "good man bad man", just like real life, because history is just talking about real life. Saying "well those bad things aren't really bad" is rewriting history though, denying what happened is rewriting history, pushing the complexity of real life on a popular narrative isn't rewriting history.

There's no books being burned, no thoughts being stamped out, nothing like that.
