Almost every single member of the team literally quit their job during a pandemic for literally no other reason then how awful MikeZ was behind the scenes.

They do not.

Usually a class action lawsuit has to happen, but there have been people who didn't get their money back when the kickstarter operator said "The sun spoke to me and told me not to finish this project. Appreciate the support though."

You would expect that for someone so horrible to have many of them, but I couldn't find any (I also found he made some out of place "I can't breath" joke which is pretty bad but again - I expect worse)

"I'm glad I don't back anything" is a somewhat douchey thing to say, which I almost just said, but this is what I fear and I just don't want to take the risk

Granted these horror stories involve the high end stuff, but still, its probably happened to lower end tiers too

There was one dude who had to pay out in a class action lawsuit.

But he wrote a graphic novel, undershot how much it would cost to ship, and then said if anyone asked him about getting his book, he would burn their copy. And then he recorded himself burning books he was going to send to people.

That was pretty clear enough of abuse of backers to force him to pay up.

I too have tried to find out more about this and haven't had much success. Indivisible was a Kickstarter I wanted to back but couldn't at the time and just planned to get the game later(which I did), so I'm interested in what all went down. I've seen probably the same stuff you have, which isn't a lot of things, so I've been hoping for more. I obviously understand the outcome of all this, but want specifics like you do.

I mean just to be clear this game is out and had a full release, so its far from the worst Kickstarter story, they are just stopping further work after the next and final patch.

It sucks but thats what happens when you act terribly then go on a power trip rather than do the right thing and resign.

While that's true, what makes this one particularly bad is that people didn't just pay like $50 to get a copy of the game, people paid $1,000-$10,000 to get their own characters get put into the game, and are now out that money. That's a pretty big deal.

I think you're getting details of two separate projects mixed together or something. The "made a video burning books of people who emailed about getting their copy" thing was Pictures for Sad Children, which was not a graphic novel (it was a print collection of an episodic webcomic), did not have a class-action lawsuit, and in the end the creator did not "pay up" any refunds, but rather Max Temkin, the Cards Against Humanity guy, stepped in and paid the remaining shipping costs so people could get their books.

Personally, I paid extra for the digital art compendium that will never be released now so that sucks. But whatever, I also paid 20 dollars for Barkley 2 that I'll never get. I only spent money I was willing to lose.

It was dead before that 'update'. Said update being the guy who killed the game off desperately trying to convince people it was still kicking, which basically the entire rest of TOG (or what used to be them since they've clearly disbanded and have been for some time) called out as a crock of shit.

They released all the assets and whatnot that existed. It's deader than dead.

I was definitely confused about this topic until I got here, because I know I've seen the game out and available.

I feel bad for anyone who contributed at the higher tier levels, but at least the game came out. Granted, if the difference was paying at the $100 level vs paying at the $1000 level because the company promised some sort of custom character, yeah, that sucks.

He hasn't said a word for over a year, and the last word he did give was "Okay so the entire team left so I know this looks dead and we've made literally 0 progress in like a year but it's not dead, I'll update you all in three days!" and then that never happened.

$1000 to be an NPC, $2500 for a random monster, I think. $5000 for a boss. $10000 for a playable character.

They had a looot of high tier stuff. People that payed $10,000 got a released game, sure. But so did people that paid like, $50.

Basically, this serves as a good warning not to go in on high tier levels/high amount stretch goals/etc., because there's literally nothing protecting you.
