That's impressive. I see so many people who are 1 month sober for their 20th time. Making it two and a half years is a great sign that it'll continue.

I read something that said rehab is most successful the third time you go. There were lots of repeat treatment visitors when I was in rehab. It's easy to fall back into bad habits when you're not monitored 24/7. I credit having health insurance and short term disability at work so I was able to be out for 6 months while I did outpatient treatment after my 28 days inpatient. I did therapy for a year and a half after I got out. I was discharged in January. Without therapy, I have no doubts I would have relapsed.

Not drinking lol. I'm not sure how to answer that question. I just apply what I learned in therapy to regulate my emotions and outlook. I obviously still get sad, anxious and depressed but I learned how to help myself out of that as opposed to turning to alcohol to cope.

I figured with you going to rehab and all that you'd have made a relapse prevention plan. Usually consists of things like therapy, self-care, healthy routines, specific coping strategies and support systems. I was wondering what has worked for you.

If I feel like I am having any issues I will make an appt with my therapist. We did create a plan but it was 2.5 years ago and a lot of it isn't applicable now because I didn't continue 12 step after rehab. I just developed hobbies, I'm in school, and I went through 1.5 years of therapy to help learn emotional skills I never learned as a child.

Sounds like you're doing well. I'm glad. Sometimes I hear people preach that the 12 step program is the only way. Personally, I've never believed that myself. Wish you the best for the future!

Thanks! My treatment was a 12 step facility but I really found that it wasn't working for me because I am not spiritual at all. I also don't like how you're expected to re-do your steps especially step 4 and 5. For me, it just perpetuated a cycle of shame in me that I didn't want to go through. The meetings too were kind of triggering for me because it just consists of talking about what a shitty person you are when you're using. I don't want to be reminded of that constantly. I'm not that person anymore. I've made amends with those I did wrong to and I've cut people out of my life that made me feel like my progress would be impeded. AA was definitely not for me.

Congratulations! I've got a lot of friends involved with AA, NA, or just living straight edge lifestyles, so I know how easy it can be to slip up. 2.5 years is definitely an accomplishment. One day at a time.

Personally, I like weed too much to ever go completely sober, but I don't drink much at all.

I did edibles for the first time again last month but I don't count that towards my sobriety because I had issues with alcohol, not marijuana. I haven't had a desire to do them again after last month so that's a good sign.

Fairly certain the 12 step program is literally less effective than doing nothing at all. A complete scam that only occasionally works because a lot of people who do it are motivated to quit regardless of program.

Anyway, congrats. I guess I've been sober for like 16 months? I do miss it but my health issues put enough fear into me to not even consider trying it anytime soon.

12-step programs are definitely effective. This is coming from someone that doesn't believe they are always necessary. That being said, it's completely possible that for some people, a 12-step meeting might actually lead to a poorer treatment outcome. And you're right, motivation to change is a major factor in recovery. Congrats on your 16 months btw.

Not really something for me to be proud of. I got an unrelated chronic illness (MCAS) that makes me become unresponsive and consvulse and feel like I'm dying if I so much as drink a sip of something that isn't water. Beer would probably put me in a coma. Compared to the immenient fear of death, it's very easy to avoid alcohol and just about everything else. It's just 6 meals of brown rice for me a day, otherwise it's a quick trip to the ER.

Thier relapse rate is higher than literally no strategy. It's entire message is you have no power or control and aren't responsible for you own actions so give up and let god take over.

Their message is you're powerless over drugs and alcohol and you're basically a terrible person and should be ashamed by what you've done forever. Essentially. It's a guilt and shame model and that doesn't work for me.
