The minute Trump loses the election on NOV 3rd (or 4th if it goes late night), he'll start tweeting "THYIS IS A SHAM I'M TAKING ACTION TO MAKE SURE SLEEPY JOE DOESN'T GET MY HOUSE"

What y'all gotta understand is that is it. He's just some old grumpy man with a phone making calls to politicians after thatpoint. "MITCH! Rig it for me! Cmon man!" This would be Mitch's response - and probably any major GOPer -

"You lost, I have an entire Republican machine to churn on. Thanks for the SCOTUS judges and the tax cuts"

The fact people think Lindsay Graham or Mitch or any of these spineless people is gonna go apeshit and start guarding the White House for him is hilarious. He loses - and is instantly a lame duck who leaves in about 60 days.

People here thinking there is some "underlying" loyalty to him crack me up - he is their boss and nothing more. They are nice to him because he is their boss.

After NOV 4th it's just some old rich guy who is leaving in 60 days. The military ain't going to guard him. The Governors ain't gonna guard him. Mitch McConnell ain't gonna guard him.

MAYBE Ron DeSantis will - but that's not enough.

PS: Trump won't ever go to jail...BUT his children could. Bet on that.

You're right. It'll go to the Suprme Courst and the ruling will look like this:

"Welp, President Trump is not leaving so we officially declare him Supreme Chancellor and I guess he just owns the White House now. We hereby grant this stay indefinitely"

^ I make myself laugh, lmao. This is what y'all actually believe will happen. "WELP! HE'S NOT LEAVING SO WE HEREBY SAY HE IS ALL POWERFUL"

I could see some sort of "we need to postpone the vote until corona is over" thing happening. If it goes through the broken legal system, Americans won't get off their asses about it.

Actually in all honesty - the Senate has been the joke. Trump is Trump. We all know Trump.

You do realize he would be impeached by now if the Senate wasn't a joke, right?

And none of that is the silly "they'll have to drag him screaming out of the White House" or "he'll forcibly occupy the White House" nonsense that some people have been peddling. It's not like there isn't cause for concern if he actually muddles the legal system to such an extent, but those are two different things.

If there's any danger in November, it's in people not showing up to vote or in Trump finding a way to rig the election. He's not going to turn the US into a dictatorship and remain in office if voted out. He may have stated as such, but he doesn't have the power to do so. The army isn't going to side with him.

It would be amazing though if he were the first president forcibly removed from office. <_<

Hes not playing any sophisticated games; people would just rather pretend that we dont have to worry about it because they havent experienced anything like this before.

So TC is for some reason continuing a discussion started two days ago with the posting of this article. Antifar posted it here. I posted it on 261:

https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2020/11/what-if-trump-refuses-concede/616424/

If there's a decisive Biden win on Election Night, we will likely avert these "outlandish stories" that TC is talking about. Without a leg to stand on, neither Congress nor the SCOTUS will back him. Trump will refuse to concede (note that this is not a question), but Biden will be sworn in on Inauguration Day.

Problem is this is not a normal election cycle. We're in the midst of a pandemic and an unprecedented amount of mail-in ballots, which will be tallied late. They always are tallied late, and we're going to be getting a LOT more of them this year.

Unless you've been staring at a brick wall for the last several months, you'll know that Trump has been doing everything he can to delegitimize mail-in ballots. He has said in public and very specifically that the result should be declared "on Election Night".

There is a possibility as precincts start reporting that there could be a "red mirage", an appearance that Trump will have more votes going into the close of Election Night. If that happens, then things get interesting, and by interesting, I mean freaking scary.

The Interregnum (the time between Election Day and Inauguration Day) has the potential to be where Trump plays his dirtiest cards, which can include attempting to declare mail-in ballots as fraudulent and not to be counted, which can be done because not all of them are filled correctly. There could be some shit done with electors, which would be influenced by the local legislature and governors.

It's a long article, and there's a long list of things that could happen, some of which Trump has said he will do. Others have been contacted (yes, people who are not Trump), like Republican Party leaders in various states, and none have said that any option is off the table.

So in short, TC is downplaying a legitimate threat.

Here's a fun question for everyone

let's say the results are fuzzy and we don't quite know who won come january

is it better to keep the incumbent in, or bring the new person in? Let's try and remove ourselves from this election and talk in the abstract so hopefully partisanship goes away here cuz its a somewhat interesting question.

obv either way its a bad situation. but what do you think is the best action to take. Remember, we don't know who is in power in this situation and its all hypothetical.

The only reason the results would be fuzzy is the incumbent actively using his power to undermine the results of the election (which he is currently doing)

if the results are fuzzy people will literally take to the streets
