Governor wolf has been taking a pounding from the courts lately on the constitutionality of his Coronavirus orders. Of course they all end up at the PA supreme court which is Democrats and they rule for him there regardless, but the lower likely republican courts have been a thorn to him.

That's a federal court, so it doesn't go to the PA Supreme Court. Goes to the 3rd Circuit, and then the US Supreme Court.

I believe YOU'RE the one asking progressives to completely disregard their own self-interests, Tony. "Even though we only have two real options (because this country is a two-party system no matter how much magical fairy dust you think you can sprinkle to make it otherwise), let's constantly bash the one that at aligns with our views more often than not! Then when the apathy inspired by that constant bashing leads to the other party winning and tearing down the progressive legislation that already exists, that'll...that'll um...that'll be in our best interest?"

This is why Democrats, in spite of non-Republicans wildly outnumber Republicans, manage to lose. Republicans understand that criticizing politicians until they give you what you want is good, Democrats get offended that you'd dare demand something of a public servant who wants your vote.

Inviso posted...
If progressives want to have a seat at the table, yes, they need to start from the bottom and work their way up. You don't get to just start caring about politics in 2015 and magically expect everyone to bow down before your glory. That just makes you come across as arrogant and selfish, and uncaring about the voters who've been loyal to the party for decades.

Biscuit nailed it above. You take it as arrogant and selfish because you're offended, when all we want is a politican to represent us! If we run politicans to the Left, they are "stealing votes from Dems!!" Please do not forget that the Dem establishment did not support AOC, and absolutely does not support other AOC's running against longterm Dems.

Inviso posted...
No, you're not allowed to be mad. Not at the Democrats. This isn't some magical realm in which you just need to believe SUPER HARD and all your dreams will come true. The Democrats may not want to give you everything you want right away, but there's at least the possibility of them evolving on the issue over time and allowing progressive policies to become more accepted and mainstream (and as Dancedreamer pointed out, if Dems actually got in power for a reasonable amount of time, they might actually be able to pass progressive legislation that the public loves and wants to keep and expand upon.) The Republicans sure as s*** don't want any of that. They want to not only NOT give you anything you want, but take AWAY things you already like. You can be mad at them all you want, and you SHOULD. And hell, after inauguration day, you can go after the Dems all you want for not being good enough. But right now, there is ONE enemy to progressivism, and it's NOT the DNC.

"You're not allowed to be mad about not good enough when there's worse". Logically fallacious argument that wouldn't fly on literally any other subject. Please understand this.

Inviso posted...
It's not illogical or backwards. As it stands, the youth vote is not something any really needs to bother catering to, because they don't show to vote. You can say "we'll vote for you if you give us this, this, and this", but that doesn't matter if you're not already a reliable voter bloc. Why should the party risk alienating voters that reliably vote for them (but they're moderates, so in a battle between the far left and far right, the end result is them getting f***ed either way) in exchange for chasing after a bloc that might still not be satisfied? You've gotta f***ing suck it up and vote for the lesser of two evils EVERY time. Make it so that both parties know your votes are in play and can't be ignored. Then, you have some leverage to push your agenda. Which is more threatening? A net loss of zero from someone who couldn't be relied upon to vote anyway, or a potential net loss of two from someone on your side who decides the other party is the better option?

Just saying "it's not illogical" doesn't make it so. You are asking millions of people to support candidates who MIGHT give them what they want, in the hopes that MAYBE they'll listen, but that is contradictory to their catering to moderate Republicans!

I don't ever remember a point where I thought Bernie was just a statistical lock to win. It wasn't always clear if it would be Bernie vs Biden, but after the first couple rounds of voting, it was clear it would be Bernie vs someone, whether that someone was Buttigeig or Bloomberg or Klobuchar or Biden. And the result of that race never looked statistically locked to me one way or the other.

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/bernie-sanders-is-the-front-runner/

Ok it was he had a 70% shot of winning a plurality of delegates, but not necessarily enough to automatically clinch it. He had a 46% shot of winning outright, with the second likely option of 40% going to "nobody winning outright".

Recall the extremely infamous "Can Bernie Sanders or the Coronavirus be stopped?" headline.

HeroDelTiempo17 posted...
You guys know there's other ways to exert political pressure besides voting, right? In fact there is a current movement that has gotten at least some good results precisely by being very mad at Democrats very loudly.

No one should be interested in a progressive movement that needs a specific leader or enemy or that loses too many elections to be relevant

No no no, being loudly mad is a negative and deserves to be scorned. You MUST happily vote and then ask nicely.

Help the poor, help the working class, and we can talk, but as long as they want to persist with this ridiculous idea that everyone poorer than the top 1% are in the same boat, they are not going to get my vote.

Okay, yes, those are much closer to the numbers I remembered--46% to outright win. I was by no means convinced that the DNC would just let him have the nomination if he won a plurality but not the majority of the delegates, so I remember still being pretty nervous about how the 46% number was still below 50%.

And yes, I do remember the Coronavirus/Bernie headline.

A website that appeals to people 40 and under that has an international audience that includes people from Canada and Europe. Said website doesn't like Republicans. News at 11.

(Getting people in Canada and Europe to like Trump usually doesn't happen because of how badly he handled trade with all those countries, how he pulled out of deals that those countries like such as the Iran Nuclear Deal.)

(Although to be fair, I have actually seen one international board that did like republicans. r/HongKong on Reddit, as some republicans such as Ted Cruise have been speaking more loudly about the situation in Hong Kong than democrats have. And they like that Trump is a huge dick to China all the time--I mean, so do I to be fair; being a dick to China is the one part of Trump's platform I do like; it's just a much less important part of his platform to me than it is to the people of hong kong).

Their brand for a long time has been peddling the idea that the american dream is to be a rich white dude like them while doing everything they can to make that impossible. They aren't going to stop now.

Also the man part is key to why they are free to insult her with no repercussions. Doesn't impact their message.

Honestly the closest thing to enacting a civil war would be the adding states just to vote democrat in the Senate to ensure control. Causing a states rights' moaning.

But, there will never be a civil war again because our military is simply too strong.

Puerto Rico should also be a state if they wish to be one. DC shouldn't though and should have their population centers handed back to Maryland and Virginia and their population reappropriated as necessary for the House.

As always: DC should be a state because its residents deserve enfranchisement (and having Congress be able to randomly veto their governing of their own city is completely absurd), not because it will benefit the Dems.
