your ignorance about diabetes offends me

not every obese person will get or has diabetes, and you don't have to be obese to get diabetes, period.

there's just as many skinny and normal weight people with type 2 diabetes, and type 1 diabetes is genetic and body weight/health style agnostic.

Sadly, looking bad for her right now. Currently in hospital, going to be getting an amputation. :(

you can use the outdated and painful fingersticks to check your bloodsugar just fine

or you can use a cgm, which is far better than manually fingersticking, since it's a continuous monitor you can check at any time, wirelessly.

it also connects to an insulin pump, which with software, essentially turns it into a fully automatic artificial pancreas which immensely improves your management

so yes, i do need all this, because it controls my diabetes to the point where i don't actually have to worry about it anymore.

I am in shape.

But I went up just 20lbs, and still looked great, but then my A1C became 5.8.

I know for a diabetic 5.8 is great. But I am not a diabetic. So for a normie that is bad.

So I had to lose those 20 lbs.

I was within 20 pounds of my "in shape" weight when I got diabetes, I gained 20 pounds eventually from the insulin (even while working out a ton) which really pissed me off (my doctor didn't say Glyberide could do that before hand).

I didn't even really eat much with sugar, just pizza and pasta (so carbs) but I drank a ton of soda back then, which is probably what did it.

I stopped drinking soda but it didn't go away. I've stuck to only oral insulin (2 kinds) but I'm basically going to pay for it as my A1C is really high, even though I'm trying to exercise and eat right, not drink sugary stuff etc. Basically I should be on normal insulin (shots) but I refuse to go down that road. I saw what it did to my wife (I know it doesn't do that to everyone, she was insulin resistant), and I'm stubburn. I still believe I can magically make it go away by working out enough and eating super healthy etc (I'm delusional).

But yeah, you don't get it because your overweight, or at least that is not the only reason. My wife was diabetic when I met her and she didn't have much extra weight at all. She didn't do anything about it till she started getting kidney stones a few years later, and once she was on insulin she gained weight fast. It really sucked.

50, and I basically lived the keto diet lol, especially now. I barely ever have carbs at all (I miss pizza). Before I moved this last time I would usually have a slice or two of pizza a month, because I love it so much, and rarely I'd make pasta, but I skip bread (lettuce for sandwiches/burgers etc), or corn tortillas in a pinch.

I do chicken alot, beef a decent amount, fish/shrimp, and veggies primarily (but hardly any potatoes even though I love them.

I do beans as well (chilli's), but yeah I avoid most carbs and forms of sugar.

I got diabetes about 7-8 years ago I guess, was about 240 at the time, and jumped up to 260 after taking Glyberide (right when I started teaching, I literally worked out 3-4 hours a day (2 of em water aerobics) to prep for teaching that summer), I didn't weight myself (I felt fitter mind you), until the end of summer and instead of losing weight, I gained 17 pounds.

When I moved to WA and my wife got sick and in the hospital I didn't eat well for almost a year (she was in there about 6 months) and gained another 10-20 (it fluxuates between them). Even working out etc, I've had the devil of a time trying to get rid of it since then. It's like my body hits platoes and won't go back under them or something.

Meanwhile my A1C seems to have more to do with the stress i'm in rather than the food i'm eating which is really freaking weird, and it's always high. Low of about 7.2 or so, but last time it was 10.5 or so. It's really bad, but hopefully it'll go down now that I've finished moving.

Fuck, bro. This shit is crazy.

How is your cardio game?

I heard cardio after a meal will burn up the blood sugar. After 8min of intense jogging/running, your body begins to burn stored fats.

I also heard increasing muscle mass is good too.

Yeah, I've been preparing for a zombie apocalypse (Cardio), I do beat saber primarily for that now (I did swim laps and did water areobics before the apocalyse). I was also hitting the machines at the gym, but have not been doing that in the last year. I really should do situps/pushups etc, but shrug.

I could do more but it's pretty hard since I basically stay at home all the time, I don't even go out for walks etc (although now that i'm so secluded I probably could, it's just been hot and or smokey/firelike since I moved here.

I may eventually get free weights or something like that if this goes on for another 6 months. I have a bit of a gut I'd really like to get rid of, and areobics alone won't do it.

Don't even get me started with doctor mistakes with perscriptions, this last year I was almost killed twice because of them lol. Course my doctor at the time (no longer) was Russian and didn't speak very good English, and well, he simply forgot to mention changes he would make lol. Quadrippled my dosage of linsinipril one time (can easily cause low blood pressure in combo with my other perscriptions), and totally cut off half of my insulin by switching to a low dose of glipizide and canceling my glyberide all together (all during the pandemic so it was pretty hard/almost impossible to get things fixed).

Was such a fun 6 months with him as my doctor.

Btw the whole glypizide thing is why my A1C was so high last time, it was never much over 9 before, so that was significantly worse, but then again I went from taking the max amount of glyberide (forget the dosage) to 5 mg of glipizide, basically the equivalent of just having me cold turkey stop taking half of my insulin.

Perhaps he was actually trying to kill me.

yes and no.

early on, if you catch it early enough, you can take steps to reverse it and eventually, not have diabetes. you'll be more at risk than someone who doesn't have it, however, so you always do have to pay attention.

however, if you don't notice it, or ignore the symptoms, you will fully get type 2, and at that point, there is no reversing it, your pancreas is damaged and irreparable. the only thing you can do at that point is just manage it. and you can manage it to a point where it might as well not be there, but it does not go away.

ARGH....I hate that freaking doctor. And now i'm on it so would need to actually go see my new doctor (I've just done a zoom appointment), to get it changed.....sigh. But yeah, my blood sugars are prob still messed up. My doctor wanted me to go get tested last Thursday (and I was planning to) but it was 95, and smokey and I don't like driving even when there isn't smoke as think as fog around, so I didn't do it. If my A1C is high maybe I'll get back on glyberide finally. I also just read a bunch of stuff online about metformin being bad long term and all these side effect, I've been taking the max does (slow release) for like 6-7 years:(

As far as Victoza, my wife was on that, in fact it was the only thing that got her blood sugars down (she was insulin resistant and took a ton but it would still be high). Every time she went into the hospital though they would not give her it and her blood sugars would be insanely high, but they wouldn't give patients victoza, so they could never get them under control, it was very frustrating.

I have not thought about taking it myself, I guess I could talk to my doctor about it next time.

It completely astonishes me the lack of checks and redundancy when it comes to medications. It should be very possible for a computer program to check for conflicts automatically and make sure you never get prescribed something that is going to fuck you over. The medical system is such complete trash from top to bottom. The amount of medical errors I've been the recipient of in the last 16 months is obscene.

Given the wrong scan like 3-4 times, had both arm veins blown up cause dumb fuck nurse doesn't know how to place an IV, had them turn back on the IV I had an nearly fatal reaction to without telling me causing me to almost die again (which thank fucking god I was paranoid and checked or I'd just be dead), took 45 minutes to respond to my calls for help where I again barely managed to avoid death by staggering out of the bed and turning off the IV machine.

Was starved 3 times despite being malnourished and all that was just one of my many hospital visits. They also tried to give me the wrong medicine like 15 times but I don't take shit without researching it myself cause obviously they can't be trusted ever since years ago they gave me medicine and didn't tell me about any side effects or not to drive so I drove and nearly passed out at the wheel and then had a bad heart episode in the parking lot.

Like, I think a doctor is more likely to make a mistake than not in any given instance and it's just absurd that this is allowed.

uh

hell, my old pharmacy had a thing that would tell you if something conflicted, not to mention there's plenty of websites that can also do it, like

Yeah but I mean in order for your doctor to even prescribe something in the first place, it should be autochecked and it's not. It's just one of many mistakes that should be physically impossible to ever happen.

The doctor is expected to know that and I'm fairly sure it's not checked there and most of the checking just checks direct drug interactions. it won't do something like consider your condition and the way the other medications you take are effecting your body. For instance I was prescribed a medicine that would lower potassium and boost sodium but my potassium is critically low and I could have had serious or even lethal compications. My low potassium results are in their system but the doctor prescribed it anyway and no autocheck popped up and it wasn't until I researched the medicine that I realized the mistake. I was even able to fill the prescription because the pharmacy of course doesn't have my data.

An automated system should be easy to put in place to guarantee that type of things never happens. Theres so much really left to the competence of the patient. Like for meds, they simply trust that I will list every medication I'm on correctly. I could easily say the wrong one and end up dead. That sort of power shouldn't even be in the patients hands. And it's not like this stuff rarely causes problems. "Medical errors are the third-leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer" killing as many as 440k americans a year. These are specifically "preventable medical error" and most of the ones that almost did kill me aren't even acknowledged as mistakes so that number should probably be way higher.

now lets talk about apps, okay

here is a screenshot i took just now of my pumps app

what is this graph? what are the lines between 50 and 200. what do they represent? 50 intervals? that seems like the only thing, right. except i can change those numbers shown. before i set it to 50 it was on 67, and those lines were in the same spot. the 50 line just said 67. what about the green lines? what do they represent? it doesnt tell you. i know what they mean because i asked someone who worked on the app. it means the in range levels, which you should just know from how that looks on the pump and other apps, but it does not tell you what the in range thresholds are, which is asinine because thats something you do need to know.
