YoukaiSlayer 09/13/20 6:53:58 AM #36:	They got a big popularity boost around a year ago when melody debuted on chaterbate cause she got a ton of attention (mostly because it was this funny new thing to everyone) so a lot of the esluts got super angry that a girl hiding behind an avatar was making far more money than them. It become a funny thing for a few weeks and melody got hugely popular (in relative terms) and started streaming on twitch and doing collabs with streamers/youtubers. This brought a huge surge to the vtubers that did already exist but just weren't really popular like iron mouse. Now they all collab a fair bit and are IMO pretty entertaining. Kinda crazy that iron mouse is actually an incredibly sickly bubble girl that can't even safely go outside anymore and will probably die before long. So thats half the puzzle. The other side of things is japan and hololive. I know less about this but it surfaced mostly because japanese simps are fucking scary stalkers so cute girl streamers were afraid of being doxxed and stalked. This led to them using rigging software and streaming as some kind of avatar. It wasn't always cute anime girls either, I know there was a popular velociraptor streamer (and not an anime velociratpor) that was clearly a guy that played games. Hololive saw dollar signs and went about creating and promoting virtual idol streamers, it became insanely popular, and there ya go. While technically anyone could be behind the rigged avatar, it seems like a lot of them end up being girls although definitely a few have ended up being guys. With covid locking everyone at home and streaming more popular than ever, combined with the eastern virtual idol success and the wests projekt melody success, it's not surprising they have started popping out of the woodwork. If anyone remembers the pomf pomf pomf song that was a meme like 8 years ago, nyanners, the girl who did that is a vtuber now for instance. The other side of things is japan and hololive. I know less about this but it surfaced mostly because japanese simps are fucking scary stalkers so cute girl streamers were afraid of being doxxed and stalked. This led to them using rigging software and streaming as some kind of avatar. It wasn't always cute anime girls either, I know there was a popular velociraptor streamer (and not an anime velociratpor) that was clearly a guy that played games. Hololive saw dollar signs and went about creating and promoting virtual idol streamers, it became insanely popular, and there ya go. While technically anyone could be behind the rigged avatar, it seems like a lot of them end up being girls although definitely a few have ended up being guys. With covid locking everyone at home and streaming more popular than ever, combined with the eastern virtual idol success and the wests projekt melody success, it's not surprising they have started popping out of the woodwork. If anyone remembers the pomf pomf pomf song that was a meme like 8 years ago, nyanners, the girl who did that is a vtuber now for instance.
