mainstream society has stupid ideas like this:

• men cant enjoy sugary cocktails
• men cant enjoy cocktails with tiny umbrellas
• men cant cry when seeing a sad movie
• men cant refuse a physical fight or else they lose their man card
• men are physically strong
• men are supposed to always be in the mood for sex, and the idea of them not getting turned on at the mere sight of ANY p**** or not liking the thought of oral sex (literally putting your mouth in a place where pee, sweat and discharge hang out)
• men are not supposed to hug their friends
• there is no man protects man code like women protect each other
• depression or sadness makes you weak and less manly
• men are rarely allowed to cry
• men cant like small dogs
• men cant wear pink stuff
• you cant fight? Youre not a real man
• you dont know how to use tools or fix stuff around the house or your car? Youre not a real man

these are not my personal thoughts. But a large, very large part of mainstream society feels this, and has felt this for generations.

do you have any idea how lonely and isolating it is to be a man? You are human but youre not supposed to act like it.

turns out being a man is an isolating, lonely experience and the answer of some people is lol men this is your fault and basically this is why we need to support and empower women more.

i saw a video where in a Romanian reality show a woman lost a contest and walked to a guy and head butted him and broke his nose. Everybody walked to the woman and hugged her to see if she was ok. This post is exactly like that.

Because there are fewer support networks for me than women, for starters. Your town/city probably has multiple women's shelters, but your entire state might not even have a single men's shelters.

Even when men want to seek mental help, they don't have the same resources available to them as women. And the whole concept of "toxic masculinity" was a feminist ploy to demonize men and, unsurprisingly, has been a factor in adversely impacting their mental health. It's no surprise that white males account for almost 70% of all suicides, considering that they're demonized and vilified while simultaneously being effectively denied (vis-a-vis reduced access) services.

It's easier for women to find a man to console them than vice versa. Also men have less choice in their partners and are thus less likely to actually like them or be with them because of a strong bond.

Someone here mentioned a while back that their town did have a men's shelter, but it closed down pretty fast and became a women's or unisex shelter, because not enough men were checking in to keep it afloat when it was just for men.

Which goes back into my above post; men are generally discouraged from seeking psychological help.

Men tend to go with methods that have higher chances of success. Hanging is like an 89% chance of death. Bullet to the brain via shotgun is a 99%. Pistol is a 97%.

Meanwhile, taking a bunch of countertop pills has a 12% chance if I remember correctly. Slitting wrists has a 6% chance of killing you. Slitting wrists actually hurts like a motherfucker and it takes a while to kill.

And, like many weird problem phrases, was a focus of academia before social media took it out of context. Once stupid people grasp onto the wrong idea you can't wrestle that idea back. We can't exactly go back 40 years and change a movement to drag men from toxic environments.
Also, most of what gets called "toxic masculinity" on gamefaqs is really "hypermasculinity." The two are intertwined, but hypermasculinity is the kind of extra-sexual callous extra-competitive behavior by men and toxic masculinity is the cultural norms which shape that kind of behavior. That's why it's not just men who can exhibit toxic masculinity, it's cultural.
