and that the first examples that come to mind i'm striking from a rec list for various reasons.

Like, I think the Malazan series probably isn't your cup of tea but if you can get like a free preview you could take a look at Garden of the Moon (the first in the series) and see if you're interested in continuing.

A Song of Ice and Fire is lol for recs because I can't in good faith condemn you to the living hell that is "waiting near a decade counting on Winds of Winter"

i just kinda assume everyone's read LotR or otherwise ruled it out as something they're not interested in since it's famous enough

A few recommendations:

Worm is something pretty unique and cool. It's a superhero story, where one day, people with powers suddenly started being born in the real world. However, there are a lot of villains in this world, so the heroes really struggle to fight back against them, and the main character struggles to tell whether she can help more people as a villain or a hero. The powers and their usages are way more creative than anything else I've seen, and the MC has excellent development, plus the worldbuilding is amazing. It builds to some real exciting climaxes. It was released online a couple chapters a week, for free, and there are a few ways to read it:

Mistborn is a fun little trilogy and a great intro to Brandon Sanderson's works. Lots of action, cool twists, and fast pacing.

Meanwhile, if you want something epic and long, The Wheel of Time rocks. Super cool magic system, good characters, and lots of development. Every book has a huge climax, and the story evolves throughout the series in a way I haven't seen in anything else.

So I'm a Spider, So What? is the best light novel series I've read. The narrator's a lot of fun, it moves fairly briskly, and it's genuinely funny. It's about a girl who gets reincarnated as a spider and her travails. It knows how to take its time with some unique things, too - the MC doesn't have any dialogue for the first few books, for example.

Well, user SaveEstelle has been reading Wheel of Time and raves about it, so I'll give that a shot. I realized there was still one more book in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy I haven't read yet, so I picked that one up, too.

I'm intrigued by Worm as well, but I think I'll just read the book there.

Xenoblade Chapter 10 complete!

They finally reveal that Metal Face is Mumkhar and his motives are honestly pretty pathetic, as Dunban aptly points out. Dunban was great in that final scene. We also get to meet the leader of the Mechons, a dude named Egil, who wants to free them from the tyranny of the Bionis, whatever that means. I'm sure we'll find out.

We also learn that Alvis and his lineage of seers get their powers from a ceremony where they touch the Monado, so there's a connection. Shulk realizes, after some prodding, that this is the place where he was found with the Monado.

Dragon Ball Episode 132 complete!

Okay, the structure of that episode was really cool. The four of them work separately but toward the same goal, focusing on their distinct strengths, and seemingly save the day. Then it looks like it's about to subvert your expectations and make all their efforts for naught, only for them to combine their strengths in a desperation move and it barely succeeds. Yamcha even gets to be the hero for once!

F/GO: loooool that "Maybe I'll grab a friend's Musashi and sub Rider!Ishtar in for Skadi" plan... did not work out very well. I probably can't tackle this CQ. Burned all my CSs maybe I'll try it again later on in the event but I'm officially expecting I can't clear it. Got Sheba though so at least Taiga remains the only one I can't deal with.

Xenoblade Chapter 11 complete!

There's just something about Dickson I don't trust, although it's less obvious than Alvis (and there seems to be some connection between the two). Fiora appears to have died again, but I'm not so sure. Regardless, her defiance of Egil was an epic moment because even he didn't see it coming. Shulk tries to ask why he does what he does, but he won't give a straight answer. Fiora says it's some sort of revenge, but I suppose we'll find out more later!

Xenoblade Chapter 12 complete!

Fairly short chapter overall. We reunite with everyone after Fiora regains control of her body, although she wants to figure out who the woman was who hijacked her body and maybe somehow help her if possible. We meet the Machina villagers, including the village chief, who resembles Jabba the Hut for some reason. He's apparently the father of this Egil dude, and the chapter ends with him requesting us to kill him.

Almost beat Hollow Knight, I have to admit it's as good as they say!

Kinda makes me regret voting for FFXV! I mean not really because I still enjoy FF winning in that environment, but my authentic vote goes to Knight and I hope it gets stronger.

I think I only have one left, and that was one of the boss fights in Sword Valley because of spike damage and all that.

The combination of the dialogue, the chemistry, and the music in that particular scene is emotionally powerful.

SC Chapter 6 is so good. So was Chapter 5 right before. Love that stretch of the game starting with Loewe's "introduction."

Oregairu S3 beaten

Yeah, I really do like watching Hachiman and Yukinon interact with each other. Overall, I liked season 3 but not really as much as the first two seasons. Did Iroha ever say why she was so adamant about holding a prom? It seemed like a big deal for her but I wasn't able to figure out why.

2 > 1 > 3 yeah. I've read that the anime for S3 apparently cut a bunch of Yukino scenes and added some Yui scenes which is a shame. Felt too slow paced in general too.

haven't watched the last episode yet but the finale would have to be out of this world for season 3 not to be the qeakest one

It's still been good, but the premise wasn't all that interesting and felt like a retread of stuff that happens in season 2.

Chapter 5 was really good too. Tita is definitely my favorite character in Sky so far. Very nice scenes with her. But the music and dialogue in Chapter 6 carries it to another level.

That is a shame. As much as I like Yui, the screen time balance was completely lopsided.

Whew, big win to open the season for my Vols! Just to think at this time last year, we had lost to Georgia State and BYU and we looked like a dumpster fire of a program.

Well, you have to beat all of those to get the Tonberry GF, but it's entirely optional if you don't want to do it.
