Only beaten out by Shenmue 3 and Bloodstained. Seriously where did all these Suikoden fans come from? Always thought the series was the definition of a niche JRPG. I'm not complaining though.

I think it still is super niche, but its a niche with more willingness to spend money.
I didnt do much research, but the $ to backer ratio is much higher than Mighty No. 9 which got a similar amount of money.

Definitely a wider variance than I expected. Hope those Ashes of Creation people get their money's worth!

I came to Suikoden very late and have only played Suikoden 1 and half of Suikoden 2, but I'm dropping about $125 or so I think on Eiyuden. Recruiting 100+ characters and town building mechanics with a lot of other minigames and systems built into it sings so very sweetly to me. Also the way they laid out the Kickstarter was very convincing as well. And what little we've seen of the battle system looks gorgeous.

I'm super hyped for this despite not really considering myself a Suikoden fan.

I think the key is the ratio of people who are just casual fans of Suikoden is much smaller than for most other games.
Most people never played any of the games in the first place but if they did they fall squarely in two camp. Either they didn't really care for them at all for whatever reason, or they're the kind of fan that would happily support a Kickstarter. I mean sure, there are plenty of people somewhere in the middle too, but I believe it's a smaller group than other games. So when a kickstarter like this comes around, the comparatively smallish Suikoden fanbase come out in force.

Its ratio is actually surprisingly low? I thought porn stuff had more whale support, but I guess not. Maybe the higher tier support options weren't as good there.

I think the PS3/PSP/Vita release of 1 and 2 was pretty popular. That probably helped the series a fair amount.

In my experience kickstarter games are usually p bad but once nice concepts get funded a lot of other developers jump on the bandwagon. I mean look at how many metroidvanias we have right now after bloodstained!

My previous experience with Kickstarter was backing Pillars of Eternity, and that was definitely worth the investment!

I have had a lot more success with Board games on Kickstarter than Video Games. But Eiyuden is one I am definitely looking forward to!!

New Wave Vampire and Skeleton King are firmly ahead of the other two for the 109th character design. I'm okay with this result. I voted Classic Vampire, but as long as it's not Dead Lord (which it won't be because it's in last), I'm satisfied either way.

New Wave looked the coolest to me.

Now they've added a trading card deck to the physical add-ons. Tempting. (an extra $35)

And today's update gave some extra details about the farming, dueling, and card game.

Also confirmed that Skeleton still won after the Kickstarter DM votes were counted. New Wave had so much support that they're debating about whether to still include the design somewhere in the game.
