I like that you can find unique quest items before you even need them. Makes the world feel more "real" than how it normally is, where you can't find something until you're supposed to.

MGS1 is too archaic for her for sure. She had a hard enough time watching me play the original FFVII to show her how it looked compared to the remake. I'd like her to get back to playing KH2 at some point, but I think she wanted to play something on the main TV in the living room and her PS4 is in our bedroom. I tried to talk her into trying out Mass Effect because I think she'd like it, but she decided on Uncharted.

also watching her play either the enemies aren't as bullet spongy as I remember or the HD versions scaled that back

Ah, so THIS is where your playthrough topic is hiding!

Seems like you're enjoying XC so far, which is awesome. The game certainly throws a truckload of info and mechanics at you during the early game, but I think most of it becomes second nature by the end. In fact, one criticism I sometimes see is that there isn't enough evolution in the battle system throughout the game. It's not something I ever had a problem with, but I guess I can see where other players are coming from.

Through your point in the game, I think most people just stick with Shulk. He's one of those characters who you don't really want to leave in AI hands (since he requires positional attacks and smart use of Monado Arts, something the AI has trouble with). It also doesn't help that Reyn and Sharla are two of the least interesting characters to control. That said, I think the next few characters are far more interesting, and you'll naturally feel inclined to experiment with them.

During my first playthrough, it took me several hours (it may have honestly been DOZENS of hours) to realize that I could warp to different areas, and not just Landmarks within the same area. Before that realization, if I wanted to reach Colony 9 from, let's say, the Ether Mine, I would

Quick warp to Ether Mine entrance, run out to Colony 6
Quick warp to Colony 6 entrance, run out to Bionis Leg
Quick warp to Bionis Leg entrance, run out to Tephra Cave
Quick warp to Tephra Cave entrance, run out to Colony 9
Quick warp to my actual destination in Colony 9

I did this for hours until I learned better and was STILL loving the game. It's that good.

Yeah, it's definitely been a lot of fun. I've largely gotten the hang of how the battle system works at this point, or at the very least, it goes pretty smoothly most of the time. I don't try to fight stuff outside my weight class though for the most part. If they're more than like 4-5 levels above me, I don't bother attempting to engage them on purpose.

although I gotta say playing games with blatant fanservice like Sharla suddenly changing into a bathing suit because it's the armor with the best stats for her is a little awkward when my wife is watching lawl

Xenoblade X also has swimsuits but they aren't any skimpier than what Sharla can wear. Xenoblade 2 is far more limited in terms of costumes. Xenoblade 2's fan service is more along the lines of extreme body proportions and skin tight outfits. I don't think any of the female characters had a swimsuit as revealing as Sharla's. The male character can still go topless, though.

augh it's the worst

There was a decent stretch where the best armor for my entire team was this skimpy set and it was just so jarring/immerson breaking I just made do with somewhat inferior armor for the time.

Fashion Mode the best. Xenoblade X once again saving the series.

For real though I wish more games where different armor is reflected on your characters had that as an option. Especially Soulsborne.

If this is directed to me, I already said my problem was that it felt jarring to me! It didn't fit with the characters IMO.

it was kind of like putting your entire Tales of team in wacky costumes like their power ranger expy ones. Maybe some people find it funny, but I just find it immersion breaking - especially since it's preserved into cutscenes much of the time!

It's not even always related to whether I actually like the costume or not! I find Rean's edgelord joke DLC costume in CS2 to be hilarious but I can't bring myself to use it when it'll show up in serious cutscenes lol.

Sounds like Persona 4 Golden will be right up your alley...!

I don't mind silly costumes and whatnot. I enjoyed putting Serah and Noel in the N7 armor in FFXIII-2. I'll dress up the entire Investigation Team in their Neo Featherman outfits for kicks. But having everyone run around in bathing suits just breaks the immersion too much.
