Why would anybody possibly want immortality

Hell even with TC's description you could get a terminal illness and you wouldn't be able to be put out of your misery. And lol there's not going to be a cure for cancer 100 years from now

That sort of "immortality" is basically eternal youth which I think is indeed worth more then a million dollars. You'd still probably live a somewhat normal lifespan unless you are really lucky but you wouldn't have to deal with your body falling apart.

Physical damage still kills me? So if I get ran over by a bus, I'd still be dead.

I'll take the money. If I get hit by a bus, please bury me with my money.

If the immortality meant that I couldn't get ill, I'd pick that. I'm not wanting to be indestructible or anything but being able to go out to any number of illnesses makes it worth basically fuck all.

Good for you. Very few people want to live knowing all of their relatives and friends are long dead

Firstly, I doubt it would be.

Secondly, you don't have to be old to get cancer. I got diagnosed two weeks before my 21st birthday. If you can still get cancer, not to mention all manner of other horrific illnesses, the immortality is absolutely worthless.

No way. Theres always a risk of some sort, but the upside is too great to pass up. One million dollars is a lot, but thats not even close enough to be considered wealthy and, once again, you cant make more time or buy more of it. You can make more money, though. Even the government gives it away.

But, seriously, go ask lots of old people if theyd rather have their youth back and possible immortality, or if theyd prefer money.

There is no upside. You will still get sick and die. Any benefit you get from being 'younger' can be more or less replicated by looking after your body, unless you're literally pro-athlete standard. Plus, you're still not immune to injury and the long term effects of that. What it essentially amounts to is that you'd look younger than you are. I already do, so no actual value.

How old are you? Like 25? Because there is sure as shit a big difference between being in your 20s and being even in your 40s. Let alone older. It's ridiculous to say there is no value in being youthful for your whole life. Everyone's body slowly falls apart as they get old. Everyone.

I'm 33, but what you aren't getting is that your body would still fall apart. If you can still get ill and still get injured, the things that make your body fall apart are still in play.

My body is fucked in some ways, but this would not have been prevented by the brand or immortality on offer here.

Immortal doesnt mean you cant die, thats invulnerable. Immortal just means you dont age, ie, Eternal Youth. No immortal being is unkillable, unless they are also invulnerable. Shit, there was an entire religion based on gods being immortal but still being susceptible to being killed and shit.

Thats not true. Immortality isnt a natural concept, and just about every iteration of immortality in any sort of media since ancient times, has immortality (even without invulnerability) as being eternal youth.

Read the OP. Injury and illness still affect you. The youth being offered would be little more than cosmetic.

If it was staying young and healthy (as immortality is often portrayed) then you'd have a point, but it isn't. That's the distinction that makes it lose all value.

Obviously the topic states that you can still get injured so if you lose an arm or fuck up your knee real bad or something then being young isn't going to be a huge help. However, aging does have a huge impact of your body. Weaker bones, weaker muscles, weaker organs, etc. For example, when you're in your 20s your heart can pump significantly more blood then when you're in your 40s and that can have all sorts of effects on your body/health.

Not really a tax free million if that goes right into my brokerage account and then I pay capital gains on whatever I take out later.

For argument sake lets say youre right and no cure/treatment is ever found for cancer, you still wouldn't age and year to year your chances of developing a life threatening illness would not be higher than they are now.

Given that I've already had a life threatening illness, and more than a decade ago at that, I don't find that overly reassuring.

Also, the way that you've just put a slash through treatment/cure as if they're interchangeable says it all. You know what the treatment for testicular cancer is? They cut your bollock off. Plenty of treatments are deeply unpleasant and have long-lasting affects.

The only bad kind of immortality is the kind where you cannot die. Agelessness is the best kind because you can go out on your own terms and you wont develop a god complex.
