Confirmed Torn ACL for Isaac. That's just so devastating for both Isaac and the Magic.

The Magic's future was very clearly to build around Fultz + Isaac. Isaac is/was the Magic's bright shining hope. The injury changes absolutely everything. The offseason basically everyone was available to be moved to commit in that direction. Gordon, Fournier, Vucevic, Bamba, Picks were all on the table.

Now Isaac won't play another game before his contract expires. By the time he returns he will have played 33 games in 2 seasons and will be coming off two separate occurrences of a torn MCL and torn ACL in the same knee. It's now back to square 1. Carry on with the current roster which has a known ceiling of ~40-45 wins and the first round of the playoffs or completely blow it up.

Best case scenario for the Magic is that Isaac returns in 2021-22 as a similar level player and the team gets him on a team friendly second contract. Okeke will come in as a rookie next season to fill in Isaac's minutes. Worst case scenario is blow it up and see what happens.

Magic have come out and stated that the torn ACL was unrelated to his previous MCL injury.

i'd give that about as much credence as when cops investigate themselves for corruption/brutality and find no wrong-doing

I'm not so sure about that. It's not like he was rushed back. For an injury of that type he was actually several months slower to return than normal and still on a heavy minutes restriction. He was 8 months removed from an injury that typically has a recovery timeline of 3-4 months. The league wouldn't even give the Magic an injury exception as an independent examiner ruled he was likely to return before the playoffs but the Magic planned on holding him out anyway.

The current Magic FO is notoriously cautious about bringing people back slowly from injury.

The worst part is that he was just over 1 minute away from completing his minutes restriction and being taken off. He had played 14:36 and was on a 16 minute restriction.

that's fair. injuries can be unpredictable and people can respond differently to them anyway.

I've noticed that as soon as I turn the Bucks games on they fall apart. I had a break at work and turned it on near the end today when they had a 1 point lead, and they promptly fell behind for the rest of the game

They were up by 4 when I turned the game on against the Rockets, and Houston went on something like a 9-0 run and didn't look back.

I remember in the playoffs I hated Lowry and his ridiculous theatrics. He's just insufferable.

He took it to a new level tonight though. Really dirty foul on Aaron Gordon when he was midair which injured Gordon. Called a flagrant 1 but should have been an ejection

This just reminds me of the playoffs last season where Lowry hit Michael Carter Williams in the face so hard he broke his nose with blood gushing everywhere. Then flopped like he had been fouled.

Didn't even fucking get a flagrant for it either. I think they may not have even called a foul.

Was addressed pre-bubble. Lottery odds are locked in via March standings. I assume if a team climbs into the playoffs over Memphis then everyone slides down a position and Memphis take the last lotto slot

They might not even have to give up! Their remaining schedule is brutal (Raptors, Celtics, Bucks). The Suns would need to win out though (Thunder, Sixers, Mavericks) which is the more unlikely outcome imo. Blazers would have to go 2-1 (Sixers, Mavs, Nets) which is very doable.

People complain about the strength of schedules teams got but their schedule was just their remaining normal schedules with non-bubble teams removed for the most part. They didn't do everything from scratch, they just took the next 8 games on their schedule against teams actually playing.

Also not sure if the Magic has resigned themselves to the 8 seed or if they are resting players for the Nets/Pelicans game but today against the Celtics we have the following:

Fournier (Out)

Fultz (Minutes Restriction)
Bamba (Minutes Restriction)

I wouldn't be surprised if Vuc plays less minutes too.

Turns out the reason Bamba hasn't been playing is because he got COVID late pre-bubble. Then got false positives in the bubble so couldn't leave his room to practice. So he basically had zero conditioning. He had to come out and tell us because fans/media were speculating that his DNPs meant the front office / Clifford had lost faith in him

first world problems, but i'm a little disappointed we're locked into 3rd! might be zero urgency tonight

Add Terrence Ross to the injured list. Magic may as well gives the Bucks a bye and go home. 7 of the Magics 10 man normal rotation are either out or on restriction

Also because I'm that guy, I am currently getting the Magic fanbase to argue over whether they would take back Dwight Howard this off-season if we got rid of Vucevic.
