For Bug Fables

A fairly weak start that kind of balanced out by the end. A lot of songs have the feeling of inspiration from Mega Man and it somewhat works, but can also run dry mixed in with everything else. There's a few songs that really hit atmospheric, then there's some stuff that just wants to be its own thing, that said, when I say it balances out to the end, it really paints a worse picture for the early game. No fault to those that liked the OST from the start, but didn't appeal to me as much. My rating? I'll give it the number of tracks. 84/100

Least Favorite Song: Outskirts. Nothing topped my dislike for this, it dragged on a melody that never appealed to me. Though the fact that nothing fell below it is a pretty good sign, considering how early in the soundtrack it was.

Favorite Song: To be honest, my fight for top song was pretty hard battled as it went on, there's just a few things that clicked really well, mostly what I expect were more dungeon themes, but what I had to go with may be fitting for my name. MECHA BEE DESTROYER BLASTLORD

God, finally done with this. Well, I want to just first say it's not a bad soundtrack, but it ultimately tries to clone the general feel of similar sci-fi games, while lack the melodic strength that those things bring. It's a fine listen, but dull. 50/100

Favorite Song: This is a sad case, I always put my favorite and least favorite as I find a song I like/dislike and replace it as I find something better. My favorite never changed because whenever I found a melody I slightly liked, it'd be a longer song and either it turned dull, or it completely ruined it. So my favorite: To The Rescue which honestly added to it not being a good sign.

Least Favorite Song: Note, when I'm working on stuff, I tend to dislike vocal songs, especially when they're just like super hero theme songs, so while I had a decent competition for worst song from the OST early on, Freedom Planet TV took the cake quickly.

I sat through part of this ost wondering if I really should be listening to it since I'll probably be back to the Second Chapter later this year or early next year, and it seemed fine. Granted, I'm sure that's likely because you start with a new character, as opposed to starting off continuing Estelle's story. Then I hit Royal Keep at Dusk. It has a lot of meaning to what's being played, and that's where it hit me that I need to stop. It'll get in my head. Songs I recognize can spoil me.

If you nominate again, I'll actually push you up the line since it'd be a bit unfair to wait your turn just to get shot down, but Falcom does know how to set the mood with its music.

Quicker thing, also calming, easy to listen to as a background, yet, it felt lacking. Not without a question, however. For me, it may encourage the player to make the climb, but for me as a listener, it stopped encouraging me after my climax of what was my favorite song. I lost sight of when one song ended, even twice clicking over to see the playlist ended, which is why a different sounding song than what had been background noise had been playing. My simple verdict is this... It's good for the game, but dull outside of it. 44/100

Favorite Song: I saw a point where it started to get better as we got higher up that mountain. That climb of greatness stopped at Spirit of Hospitality and never returned.

Least Favorite Song: While it became noise for me after my favorite song, nothing reached peak boring like Postcard from Celeste Mountain

Now to say this, Snake would normally be next, but as said, I was going to push Hbb up the queue due to reasonably skipping his soundtrack, so I'll actually do his next.

This soundtrack has its ups and downs, and sometimes its downs are strictly because you're meant to be reading dialogue and it's simply background noise during that, some things are there to make a place feel mystical and... Well, mysterious. It works in game, and sometimes out of it, sometimes it doesn't work out of it. Those things happen. I think overall, might be around a 75/100 rating.

Least Favorite Song: I've been ordering it in reverse for that past few ones, but I should get these out of the way first. When the soundtrack is at its worse, it's dull. And when tracks are the same repeated melody, it comes at a price of if you don't like a melody, it stays for like 3 minutes, and that was my problem with Guildmaster Wigglytuff. It followed a really good song and soured me.

Favorite Song: This soundtrack occasionally can get you to feel the atmosphere or the scenario incredibly well at times, either from ice/desert music, or the emotional impact of like Defend Globe. What impacted me, was Dialga's Fight to the Finish however. Definitely some fun songs, but that one built a level of hype, truly made me want to be playing the game and fighting that battle. Something that hasn't really occurred thus far, even in the higher rated Bug Fables OST. Maybe my rating would be different now, I dunno, not in a mood to fix things.

Sounds less like an OST of background music and more a video-less gamplay video. Most of it was just sound effects, then there's the same vocal song twice which... Well, just continues to add to the problems of this for me. It's all game context. There isn't a damn thing for the listener. Especially considering I'm listening to these while either playing mobile games or working on stat work, it was immensely distracting. Worst thing you've given me. 14/100

Seriously, it still gets points because the vocal songs were nice. But it also doesn't get a fave/least fave thing because I hate it.

Ah ZUN. Always good to get a soundtrack of yours on occasion in a list like these. Always fun little instrumentals that make you want to find remixes to your favorites. Now, it can get a little dull with everything sticking to quick paced and a high use of trumpets, but they take random different pieces to it. Now, two of these songs weren't the first time I listened to them. Both Satori and Utsuho were on my character+themes list. Couldn't tell you how they did there, but at least here the song for the latter didn't interest me. While lacking, it's still a ZUN ost and thus was a nice pace for me while working on things. Always great. 80/100

Least Favorite Song: The worst you get really is dull when it comes to this. Of course, some people might not like ZUN's style, which is the disclaimer, but when I mention this dull thing, I mean for those that actually like his style. Anyway, the thing that hit my boredom the most was Heartfelt Fancy.

Favorite Song: Satori's song actually nearly made me change my favorite with its use of piano, but it felt lacking on the rest. The one that really made me happy to be listening to it was that really long title... A Flower-Studded Sake Dish on Mt. Ooe, it made me want to listen to a remix. And one did show up on the recommended pages, so I'm gonna go do that now.

Man I really don't get the complaints for Devotion TBH. Yeah, it is an ambient horror soundtrack which I of course love but I don't really see the "gameplay video" aspect except for maybe like the TV Commercials.

Shall We Dine In? and ... I think it was Crushed By Reality are my biggest examples outside of TV Commercials.

The first seeds tension and adds sound effects, particularly a knife stabbing and cutting. The latter had what was very obviously a tense chase sequence and even gasping for air at a point. Both made it sound like a game or a movie were playing in the background, rather than a soundtrack.

At first, it didn't really do much for me, but on a second day it started to work for me. Even proven by letting it flow into the 8-bit and listening to the first few songs again in 8-bit proved that it really was just disinterest in the music's tone the first day. It has its value in some atmosphere building, and its use of its main theme. Though I'll kind of stress this, really most of my enjoyment in this OST was its use of the main theme. Not as much hit firm, but it wasn't all too dull either. 65/100

Least Favorite Song: Deus Hex Machina I don't have too much to say this time on dislike, the song didn't sit well with me especially on 32-bit when it added little distracting sound effects to it. Compared to the other encounters, this didn't make me anticipate the fight that has to go with it.

Favorite Song: As I said, most of my enjoyment was the use of the main theme, and it took me hitting the 8-bit to realize that, since I had changed my favorite song to Showdown, only to realize that the tune that made it bopping was Lenna's Inception itself

Trust me, don't worry about stuff I'm familiar with, heck, I'd enjoy talking about stuff I'm familiar with. This entire thing makes me kind of want to reboot a project that I only really did one entry in.

Anyway, onward to the actual soundtrack... it... kind of had some good, with its choice of instruments but never really shone the strongest for me. And especially reading the uploader's post at a point I got hyped up for a song that really did not deliver in the slightest, the back end of this soundtrack was extremely lackluster, even ending on a vocal song which... as I've said a few times, kind of is distracting so doesn't work as well for me. 62/100

Least Favorite Song: I enjoy atmospheric songs normally, and the desert theme of Dazil- City of Burning Sands isn't bad at first, but I really dislike the chanting in it.

Favorite Song: At first I thought I was again going to get a combat/boss favorite in spite of how much that really isn't my favorite thing within soundtracks normally, but then the instruments in Gathering Stars in the Night Sky gave me something to relax and be charmed by.

I expected jazz, I got somewhat heavy rock which can appeal to me at times. It made it one of those times. As someone who has never played a Yakuza game, the main thing I expected was considering how many times Shine posts a dancing Majima gif, I expected the gameplay to be something of a rhytmic beat-em-up and as I heard the music... I'm not disproved. The melody is just the kind you want to be dancing to in spite of a rock genre which normally wouldn't be... well, kind of a "dancing" genre. I heavily enjoyed it, it was pretty much an OST in the 90s until we reached the last 6 songs. Regardless of how good of a singer Kuroda is, I had to dock points for the distracting vocal songs, and then it kind of looped further down with some vocal songs being boring or worse. There's a couple that were good and still leave this rating higher up. 88/100

Least Favorite Song: As I was listening through, the worst it got was a boring song in Receive you Kiwami, but then we hit the vocal songs, and while mostly not bad, some were a little boring... but then there was de*3 which... I think translates to your shine (x3), I really don't get the yuuro, it's my best guess. I definitely can like vocals, particularly in their use during video games and naturally I listen to anime OPs/EDs outside of their anime at times. Just that song did nothing to make me enjoy it.

Favorite Song: Now back to the positives, the first and last vocal songs were pretty good to me, and some of the minigame songs were great as well, there's a lot that could be in the running for favorite song, but all in all I have to keep it on the main song that put me in a mood for the genre of soundtrack I was listening to, which was Son of a Gun

I don't tend to like getting vocal songs in general among these OSTs, it's the distraction of hearing a voice that starts to sidetrack me when I'm getting into a groove with what I'm working on.
