Scared? I don't know if I'd use that word.

I'm super cautious about going out and I weigh the pros/cons. Pretty much just go out to get groceries, food, and occasional maintenance items like sink repair kit, etc.

It doesn't scare me to go out.

That doesn't mean I'm going out. No sense in risking it when I don't need to.

i mean, scared of killing other people with compromised immune systems or pre-existing conditions. my chance of being personally harmed from getting it in a long-term way seems pretty low though.

We're right back to where we were at the beginning of April in Nebraska.

At least hospitalizations aren't quite to that level yet, but they are climbing.

Only 236 ICU beds are currently available across the entire state!

Nope. I'm out everyday. I wear a mark where I must such as on public transport or in shops but as soon as I leave those off the mask goes. I must go out everyday for my own mental health. That's much more important to me.

I leave the house typically twice each day, for going on walks, to the grocery, or to the gym. I wear a mask during indoor shopping, and while at the gym.

You guys realize not getting any Vitamin D is going to destroy your immune systems and make you more susceptible to illness, right? You really need to go outside to boost your immune system. Just do all the safety crap they've told you a zillion times and you'll be fine.

The media I think would like us to be scared forever though to what end I can't even figure out.

Honestly, this whole thing only has the right to make me scared for 3 weeks, maybe 4 weeks max and I already served that time what feels like ages ago. Now it's only succeeding at being annoying because it's still scaring other people and screwing with my job at the school...potentially screwing me over completely if they succeed in fear mongering the schools closed and cancelling unemployment benefits.

Not scared anymore, just really annoyed. More scared salaried teachers are going to get their way and shut the schools down, leaving non teaching staff in the dust...if I had to rate fears now that'd be like an 8 or 9 while COVID itself is a 2

Barely anyone in a developed country is getting enough Vitamin D through the sun regardless of the pandemic. The good news is that Vitamin D supplements are very cheap and very effective! Regardless, pretty much no one in this topic said they were scared to go outside. The most anyone's said is they're cautious about it, which is completely reasonable since there *is* a pandemic going on. I try to get a daily walk in at least, but even if there is wasn't a pandemic going on I wouldn't be going outside in the sun much right now since it's over 100 degrees during the daytime here.

I'm scared. My immune system is compromised due to my illness so if I get it, I have a good chance of dying. Actually I have a pretty high chance of dying soon even if I don't get it. At this point I'm not sure I'd even survive a normal cold. Additionally I'm in GA where people are dumb and cases are quickly rising again. I pretty much only leave the house to go to the hospital for blood tests and scans and stuff.

Some studies suggest that vitamin D supplements are less effective than vitamin D produced by sun exposure.

https://www.clinicalnutritionexperimental.com/article/S2352-9393(16)30037-9/fulltext
tl;dr: Sunlight-exposure has a more positive effect on bone structure and homeostasis than vitamin D supplementation.

Sun exposure has also been shown to lower blood pressure, increase serotonin levels (which fights depression), and can improve skin conditions such as eczema, acne and psoriasis. Sunlight also affects the pineal gland which produces melatonin to help you sleep.

I take reasonable precautions when I go out like wearing a mask, washing my hands, avoiding people where necessary.

I am not scared to go out, but I do try to minimize the changes I get anything.

Like, I am not scared of getting an STD, but I also don't just rawdog it with strangers, ya know.

No. I was in the beginning when we didn't know as much, but now I'm just more cautious and usually only go out early morning or late night. I usually do grocery pickup or delivery now.

I'm going to have to go back into the workforce soon and I'm am a bit fearful of that, but I've been hemorrhaging money for months now so I don't have much choice.

Pretty much this. Local numbers are good enough that I'll make the occasional trip that's more frivolous (masking and/or distancing wherever appropriate, of course), which is more relaxed than the "grocery shopping and walks around the neighbourhood only" of the first couple months, but going out is still a decision that I put some consideration into every time.

I never made the claim that sunlight isn't good for you or that supplements are better than sunlight. But the fact is, unless you work outside you are very likely not getting enough vitamin D solely through sunlight. Vitamin D supplements aren't a replacement for sunlight, they're a *supplement* to what you get through sunlight.

No. I live in a pretty rural area, so it's easy to maintain social distance during the few times I go out, and whenever I can't socially distance, I use a mask. Also, mask wearing never seems to be a problem for anyone in my community.
