They always complain that schools are just another brainwashing left-wing institution who turn them into bleeding heart liberals..with them being at home, now they can't be "converted" to liberalism..they always push for home schooling anyway. that's why we always hear about those conservative parents yanking their kids from the public school system.

See, it would be a win win for them. they can have their kids be taught at home and not be subjected to "liberal ideology"

but now that they are closed, they are crying foul and demand they reopen for the "economy"...in other words, schools are needed for free daycare for parents.

so even though they complain daily that schools are all liberal trying to make kids love everyone and be social justice warriors, they still can't live without them if they want to keep their economy going...

Pretty sure they want to fix the schools, not get rid of them. It's kind of like people want to reform the police, not get rid of... oh, wait, BLM just wants police gone now >_>

America's public schools are terrible, but it's broadly true of public education across the world. The US is supposedly a bit worse than other nations, but we also have massive teachers unions suppressing innovation and subverting education whenever it benefits them financially or makes their jobs a little easier. It's an amazing system if you're a teacher, a kinda lousy one for students.

Then you have sub-issues like America subsidizing the rest of the world's textbooks, since we pay a lot more (and iirc it's even worse at the college level, although people are more likely to notice that because they're the ones paying for it)

You do know that defund the police doesn't mean get rid if them. Republicans have been defunding the schools for years now, that's what they want for the police. They don't want over bloated police budget that they have military vehicles(some police stations have flat out Strikers, which are current military vehicles, while others have older military vehicles), and unlimited power to do whatever the fuck they want.

They really haven't. Educational spending is by far one of the US's biggest expenses (certainly at the municipal level) and Republicans have gone out of their way to ensure that outrageous generous amounts of money are being spent on a failed system that frequently churns out barely-literate graduates.

That's some creative reinterpretation, but the actual protesters have been pretty clear what they mean: They want the current cops gone.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/majority-minneapolis-city-council-commits-dismantling-city-s-police-department-n1227116

Some protestors have gone so far to claim:

I obviously support an abolitionist agenda, Oliver said. Police can be obsolete. (Coming from a mayoral candidate who wants to make repeated cuts until they're removed)

We can police ourselves, another protestor noted

https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/seattle-protest-leaders-call-for-defunding-and-dismantling-police-what-would-that-look-like/

Sure, not all protestors are that crazy -- some acknowledge wanting to keep law enforcement -- but many of them absolutely fucking are. And the crazies seem to outnumber the "what we really mean" crowd by a large degree.

Disagree 1000%. The unions are needed, and that job is not one people want to take at the moment - hence the current teacher shortage. Sure, go to school and get a master's degree and in the end MAYBE you can make $45,000 a year. And deal with all of the kid's BS from parents that don't care anymore and aren't on your side - everything is your fault.

Education is being destroyed because it has turned into a job no one in their right mind would take. The requirements vs pay vs job conditions aren't worth it anymore. It used to be tolerable because even though you had crappy pay you would get good benefits and a pension - but even that is gone now.

Everyone is complaining about schools being closed. Where else are children going to go when adults are working in their wage cages? Schools are just free day care while the adults are working their 9 to 5.

Clearly bullshit

A) nothing in that first link supports that, and 2) Seattle doesn't speak for everyone. Seattle doesn't even speak for all of Seattle's protesters, as clearly shown in the second link. Core organizer and secondhand victim explicitly didn't want police gone.

People with extreme opinions exist along all political spectrums. You're gonna have to show some much harder numbers than this if you're gonna make such a sweeping and condemning claim.

No they definitely want to get rid of them. They want to do away with the right to an education and make it a privilege you have to pay for when we need an educated workforce for our economic future and national security.
