It lights up and the fans spin and it stays on, but it won't actually display anything at all. I've tried reseating just about everything at this point but I'm probably going to just give up and take it to a shop tomorrow. So close to doing it on my own but so far, lol

You really are super close! Double check your CPU power and GPU plugs (make sure everything that needs to be plugged in is, and that you're using the right connector type for the CPU) and make sure your RAM sticks are slotted correctly. Failing that, can you maybe post enough detailed pics of your motherboard for us to see everything?

when i built my first computer i got this far, same thing. turns out I had to plug my monitor directly into the motherboard rather than the video card i bought since i didn't have the driver yet.

Assuming this isn't a posting issue, it could also be something along these lines. I've seen motherboards that completely ignore onboard video if you have a proper graphics card plugged in, so if stingers is inadvertently already plugging his monitor into the motherboard rather than the graphics card, it could also cause this problem.

Do you still have an old computer?

Plug in the graphics card in your old computer and see if it still fails to display anything. If that is the case, your card is probably DOA and you need to RMA it. Conversely if you have an old graphics card, plug that into your new computer to see if it works.

No I was aware of that and have been plugging directly into the motherboard. I've tried reseating the RAM like 5 times lol, I definitely hear it click into place and I've tried just one stick instead of both sticks as well but I don't think that's the issue. What do you mean by right connector type to the CPU?

I took the psu out of my old computer so I'd have to move that back over which is a bit of a hassle. I might try replacing the GPU with my old one first to see if that changes anything since that will be a little less labor intensive

I would try plugging into the GPU if you haven't already, though I'm guessing you have.

One of the most common mistakes I've seen in new builders is missing the 4 or 8-pin connector that gives power to the CPU. Depending on the motherboard/PSU combo you have, this all-important slot can be 4 or 8 pins and you can have a 4, 8 or partially covered 8-pin plug to go into it.

Dumb question, but you've tried plugging your monitor directly into the GPU instead too, right?

Your mobo should have two sets of power connectors. They're both plugged in?

EDIT: Completely ninja'd by Xiahou

Dumb question indeed.
Turns out that was it.

Thanks for doing the level 1 troubleshooting guys. I just assumed I would plug into the Mobo without ever guessing otherwise

I just ran user benchmark and got these results:
https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/30390560

I am worried it says the RAM is under-performing because I thought I went above and beyond with that. I already enabled the XMP profile and cpu-z says I'm getting 1599.6 dual channel frequency which to my understanding is what it should be. anyone know why it says the latency is so high? is it not settled into the motherboard properly or something?

Your latency score is perfectly normal, nothing to worry about. Your latency is being compared against anyone also using that kit of RAM. This includes people who: 1) are using an Intel CPU, where latency is naturally lower; and 2) people who overclocked that kit.

Make sure you have the HDMI cable or Displayport cable plugged into the graphics card and not the motherboard.

If you have a fancy gsync or freesync monitor thats over 60hz, you probably want to use a displayport cable or some features wont work. At least...that's the way it used to be.

Sometimes ram speed (and timing) isn't automatically set in the BIOS and results to using default speeds rather then what is advertised on the box.

I know my friends speed wasn't correct until just a few months ago when I told him what his CAM software was reporting.

Yeah it's still like that. I have a 144hz monitor that requires DP
