Congratulations to our champion Death Note!

We've again broken the record for most votes cast in a final, however this did lead to one of the biggest blowouts ever.

Entering the final, I was thinking that the only thing in play would be how big would the margin of victory rank.
Mob actually got among the highest number of votes for a finals loser, but Death Note just sucked up all the votes.

This makes it the 3rd time a Madhouse show wins the title of SMFAS, though that might be it for them. Unless you guys decide to give Parasyte, Black Lagoon, Cardcaptors or Trigun the mother of all pushes.

So for the rest of the topic, we get to congratulate Death Note, but also promote other shows besides the winner as cool stuff you need to watch.

Death Note is a great winner, and this occasion marks the only time an anime I've been backing from the very beginning of the contest actually won so I'm ecstatic.

While it's not my absolute favorite I've acknowledged that From the New World is never going to win without divine intervention, or like... Ten more people actually watching it and enjoying the experience so take this as my shameless plug: WATCH FROM THE NEW WORLD

Let's go death note!

One of the best JUMP manga, but actually I'm not crazy about the adaptation! Not that it's bad, it certainly tells the story with some nice production values, I just disagree with a lot of style choices. The overdramatic chorus music and crazy camera shots add a layer of LOOK AT ME IM AN ANIME that I'm not as fond of. I woulda played it like a straight thriller with a lot more silence adding tension and just plain cuts keeping it grounded.

But hey

I didnt want Death Note to win in such devastating fashion but Bane left me no choice.

Looking at the top 10, MHA, Madoka and Steins;Gate would have drawn out more casual support than Mob ever could.

Although the rest would have lost p badly, I just don't think it would have been quite that hard a stomp.

Not the most exciting final, but Death Note is still a great show.

Good on Mob, that deep of a run was pretty unexpected (whether it was really "dragged" or not, heard enough good things about it and it did finish 9th last year!) Don't think LotGH would've done much better. Actually I expected more "casual" saving due to Death Note in the title but doesn't look like that materialized...

I voted for Mob, but Death Note is a good winner. They're pretty close to me.

Anyway, here's a list of series I'm picking up from this contest. If you're the type to watch the winner, that may as well transfer to Mob and LotGH imo.

As for next contest I am not set on what I'll support, but the front-runner for my #1 priority is currently Beastars. Other ideas swimming around in the old noggin are Ghost Stories (for the lulz), Monogatari (if I can actually finish one full installment), and Fullmetal Alchemist (2003).

Ergo Proxy and From the New World have had their shots already, and Cowboy Bebop and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood have their crowns. The highest favorite I have left that has neither the crown or the run to it would be Parasyte: the Maxim, but I feel like I'm the only one who really cares about that one so I'm gonna bench that for now.

To be fair, I believe the implied threat was towards SMFFFC which - I know you're not participating - but Vincent and Zack are struggling to stay alive!!

So I know Covid's had an impact on Anime production but looking across at upcoming stuff that could make a splash next year.

Re:Zero thx to Season 2.
SNAFU, S3 may bring new interest and it is one of the better highschool dramas.
Tower of God, depends, novelty factor may have warn off by then, if not could do well simply cos people want to vote for something different.
Higurashi, only if the reboot is good....
Jujutsu Kaisen, it's the new hot jump thing, following Dr Stone, Demon Slayer and The Promised Neverland.
Quintessential Quintuplets, this is the kind of thing I would back if Monogatari got more support to allow me to actually send some saves over. I don't know how it ends, so don't spoil guys.
Attack on Titan, the final season might end up mattering a bit?

Forget this dumbass discussion, I'd rather talk about THAT! I actually just showed Charon the most brutal deaths in Higurashi last night for no reason, but he said he wasn't interested. I think the dated look of the characters kind of dissuaded him because he's usually a fan of gore and horror. With a fresh coat of paint I might could convince him to actually give it a try...

I think the issue with that is I tend to like the light shows a lot, but the only ones I really LOVE are dark and some are quite edgy. I mean looking at any of the finalists the only one I'd really call light is One Piece, and even that has some dark/edgy moments. Also I think it's super overrated.

I mean I'd love for a slice of life like NNB to get a chance, but I'm never gonna be the one to push it there. I'd hop on the train down the line if someone else could get it that far over my EDGE though, sure

not by me. instead I was lambasted by you and Genny, you're perpetuating the cycle of lambasting!

I mean I think it's natural to defend your show when it's being hit by propaganda in the gaming sense. Mulan is screwed every year in disney but I didn't hear any complaining from either of you then (and that's fine)

Like I said earlier, if Death Note had been switched out with MHA and somebody said the same thing about MHA I would have been fine with it! Sad because I'd be supporting it but I'd totally get it and not feel personally attacked about it. There are just some series' that you know are gonna kill in a final, and Death Note is one of the highest up there! MHA also getting up there now.
