If you need the background on this story since it's deep in the sports-politics intersection... The NBA intends to allow players to have certain phrases related to social justice and BLM on their jerseys when they restart the season at the end of the month (this itself could be a thing discussed at some length given the kinda bizarre way they've implemented this but I digress.) In response, Hawley then shitpost on Twitter about how the NBA should be putting "Support the Troops" and "Back the Blue" on the jerseys. So then Woj (a super well-connected NBA insider who basically gets like all the major scoops) emailed Hawley's press office with "Fuck you."

To be fair, from what i understand Hawley was saying they should be allowed to put those messages on their jerseys (doubt any player would though), but the NBA and NBAPA agreed on a set of messages to be allowed to be on their jersey.

I support BLM, but I lost a bit of respect for the NBA when they didn't allow Hong Kong messages earlier this year, mostly because the NBA is kinda being bought by mainland China more and more.

Yeah, the NBA has disappointed with regards to China/Hong Kong, giving in to the market pressure there because it's a big market opportunity for them.

Disagree with giving Hawley the benefit of the doubt though, he knew exactly what he was doing with that post.

i wasnt really giving him any benefit of the doubt, but he is correct that the NBA has been kinda hypocritical about when to talk social justice. I think he knows its the best way to give them crap. And what he said probably has an ulterior motive, but hes more or less correct.

I find it hard not to be on Hawley's side on this unless you are playing partisan politics. Hawley's statement straight up calls out the NBA for pushing an agenda and asks why if they are going to allow statements like that, why can't they choose their statements and have them approved instead of choosing off of predetermined lists.

LeBron James himself said he wasn't using a message and only his name because he wasn't part of the process in determining options that are allowed and none of them defined exactly the message he wanted to spread.

Hawley condemns the NBA for being more worried about its relationship with China with the no free Hong Kong options while summarily acting like a support the troops cause is equally as taboo, or literally any last cause you can think of.

How you can look at it and not agree with Hawley is weird unless you only want your specific causes you care about to get air. It really shouldn't be a partisan issue.

Now onto Woj. He sent an email to a senator that said "fuck you" from his work account email. I mean, that seems quite clear cut of a lack of professionalism.

He could have probably just gotten away with a simple reprimand, but I don't know the history to know if he is past that point.

The problem really is that the NBA wants to only do social justice messages and not political ones.

However, where that line ends and begins is going to be an issue. Some of BLM issues are political issues, though some of the messages I believe are pretty separate. However, then you have messages like Vote. Which is pretty hard to not argue is political, which you may say is not taking sides, but is political regardless.

It honestly just shows how much of an effect it has that trump has refused to wear a mask in public prior to this.

I'm not going to condemn him for finally making the correct choice to mask up, but I will wonder how much damage has been caused by his tarrying.

No. It was when the CDC recommended everyone wear masks. Then Trump said he wasn't gonna wear one and it's only a recommendation and you don't have to if you don't want to and undermined the entire recommendation.

Plenty of people look to him for guidance. Not the 50% of the country who disapproves of him but most of the 45% who support him are going to be influenced by the behavior he models.

I feel like your stance to be consistent with your character should be applauding Trump for both being informative about CDC regulations while at the same time demonstrating the power of personal liberty
