Finished up with Dark Souls 3 last week so moving on to the next Soulsbornekiro game (u mad?)

I don't really know anything about the game. Seen like at most 5 minutes of gameplay in total, with the grappling arm and stuff. I think I know the names and looks of some bosses. Like I think there's a butterfly lady, someone named Madame something and a sumo guy. I also hear the gameplay relies heavily on parrying, which terrifies me as I never learned it in Souls or Bloodborne. But other than that I've avoided spoiling myself on the game pretty much completely.

Clicking New Game as I post this.

Deflection is far more forgiving than parrying. Also, combat works best when you are applying near constant pressure with sword slashes then deflecting the enemy's counter.

The opening feels very soulsy. The CGI scene not so much, but the starting off being stuck in a well with someone dropping an item down to you to help you escape (motivationally here rather than functionally in Dark Souls).

Kind of annoyed the English subtitles keep referring to my main character as Wolf when according to the voice track his name is Kami or Okami or whatever they're saying, but oh well.

I know, but it's still not something that needs to be translated.

I'm glad the red overlay was just a thing to indicate that I was wounded. Would have been rather upset if that had been a permanent thing.

The game trying to explain how the gourd works like Estus even though it makes little sense in a world without the undead curse is funny to me.

Done for today. Boss in the memory kicked my ass, holy balls. That's insane. It's difficult getting a hang of this parry based combat for someone who hasn't done it before, but I'm sure we'll get there. So far I'm interested in where things go from here, but also a little wary. Enemy tracking is annoying the hell out of me. Half the time I dodge I get hit anyway because the enemy spun on their heels mid attack. Gonna try to go for the skill that gives you health back on deathblows. I think it will improve my ability to explore without being out of health items so quickly.

Honestly the dodge is not useful in this. The game expects you to block and parry. Apparently Dark Souls players have a very hard time adjusting to this and that adds to the difficulty for them. I'd suggest you try your best to break that habit now.

one thing that I like about this game is that of course, there are bosses that you have to beat to progress, but due to your mobility, you don't necessarily have to fight some of the bosses in a sequential order.

I initially got about halfway into the game, but my PS4 damaged the disc, so I bought a new PS4 and a digital copy just in case.

Yeah I got it, but he kept changing his position all the time, making it near impossible for me to correctly use Mikiri. I got him immediately after posting that, as these things usually go >_>. Spent a good 25 minutes on him beforehand.

I'm so confused on where I'm supposed to go in this level.

Also yeah, I kind of prefer not getting advice on like, what skills to take or YOU MISSED SOMETHING!!. That's things I want to discover on my own.

You're really not supposed to beat him at the beginning unless you got gud. He's a late game opponent and you're still super weak, comparatively.

Took forever to take down the big fatty and he wasn't even the real boss.

I got this butterfly lady (heard the name before) down to 50% health in first try, so it seems surmountable. I'm not sure if I'm even supposed to go for health damage in boss fights or just try to get a deathblow with parries and shit, but at the current state that seems too much for me.

I couldn't do purple guy, had to give up on him.

Sekiro is my first in the series, and I love it to death. Also, dodging doesn't have good iframes like Dark Souls so you need to learn other forms of defense.

Basically parry anything unless you see red text. If it's a sweep or grab, jump on them. If it's a stab mikiri counter.

Also, it's a combination as far as health. Posture is easier to get down if their health is lower, and posture is usually the better way to finish it off.

THIS

I beat all of Dark Souls without a shield and beat a bunch of people in PVP. That doesn't make me a master class player or anything even remotely like that but it does mean I'm good at it. Pretty good.

Being forced to deflect rather than dodge feels weird. And I keep trying to play this like Tenchu anyway, getting stealth kills on everything even though it's obviously not really designed that way.

Man, I spent a good 25 - 30 minutes trying to beat this one samurai dude in Ashina castle that I assumed was an optional challenge, but then beating him immediately leads to a boss fight with the guy who took my arm of. Jesus Christ this game never lets up. Dark Souls at least has some peaks and valleys. Not that the pressure is bad, but it is draining on my stamina. I feel like I lose so much exp and gold to these "strong enemies". Game also seems to be ramping up the amount of the optional ones that are so tough that I just have to give up on them.

Question: Should I use the dragon droplet to cure peoples' dragonrot? Game was very unclear about what consequences this have. I have two droplets now, just haven't used any.

Also, what exactly do the two pink icons above the health bar mean? One indicates your resurrection available, I get that, but I don't know what the other does. Also some times when I've used the rezz, there's a line over the icon bar, and sometimes there isn't and instead an unfull circle. Not sure what to make of that.

Dragonrot obstructs question progression for the particular NPC. Some don't have quests, so it's just there to annoy with hacking and wheezing and make you feel bad for them.

Each is a resurrection charge.

Resurrection charges recharge by getting deathblows. The black mark persists until either the next deathblow on a mook enemy (or a number, I can't recall precisely how it works) or a deathblow on a given boss's hp bar. In other words, when you resurrect, you need to either kill some folks to be able to resurrect again, or deplete a boss's hp bar to resurrect again. Thus, you typically only get one revive per phase of a boss (short of using a particular item to clear the debuff).

If you have Sen, spend it all on spirit emblems if you don't have anything you're saving it for. For experience, since you keep skill points just grind to the next level if you're close so you don't lose anything. Even though you can't get either back, I like how Sekiro let you keep your points after death.

If youre super patient you can actually play similar to DS. It's slow though. Like that boss of the in the past area can be beaten by running around and getting in single shots after certain attacks. Some of the larger bosses are easier to fight that way imo. Most human sized bosses are easier to go the poise route which plays kind of like a rhythm game.

The thing with this game is that once it clicks, the skills carry on to everything else. My "git gud" moment was Ashina seven spears which is accessible before Genichiro which you are on now. That dude beat me silly, but once I beat him, the skill I got from beating him transferred to the rest of the game.

The samurai dude before Genichiro destroyed me before I learned that his weakness is the umbrella shield. Once I had that, I styled on him.

Also the Genichiro fight is one of the most fun boss fights I've ever experienced in gaming. Engaging in parry volleys with him is beautiful. The guy who said it's like a rhythm game is dead on.
