I am genuinely curious why the developers decided to make her an ugly character, clearly it is intentional. Wouldn't the game sell significantly better if Abby was hot? I really wanna know why would the developers burn millions of dollars worth of sales with this decision. Any ideas?

Honestly I do kind of feel like people are acting like spoiled whiny crybabies in cases like this and The Last Jedi. I take more issue with the way they express their opinions though, not with the opinions themselves.

LMS is actually right, Im sorry. I do think fanservice-centric storytelling has made not what I wanted be bad writing. Not in every case, but there are some really obvious ones.

The game's writing is bad. I could write a lengthy essay on how it fails from an overarching narrative standpoint to individual scenes.

If you enjoy it, that's fine. I won't knock anyone for that. In fact, it's fine for a AAA project. But there are people out there claiming it's a well-written masterpiece when it's just not even close. And if there weren't people out there claiming it's a masterclass of video game storytelling (or if it didn't have to be compared to its predecessor) then it probably wouldn't get as much flack as it has.

See, the only thing stopping me is that I feel like it's unfair if I don't play through the game myself. I've detailed many of my thoughts in the spoiler topic about why it's a complete mess though. I've seen various streams and videos and I've caught, I want to say, around 95% of everything.

But even stuff as small as the Bigot Sandwich scene at the very beginning are done in such a sloppy way that you know they intend for you to view it as one way, but it's missing key things to really make that scene go as seamlessly as it should.

But if I sit down and maybe watch an entire playthrough the entire way, maybe I'll write it. I'd play it myself just to write about it, but I honestly had no fun with the gameplay in the first game so I don't think I'd be able to get through it playing it myself.

I've heard the gameplay is vastly improved with a lot more options, but I've also heard if you didn't like the gameplay of the first game it's unlikely you won't like it in this game still.

Maybe I can just buy it on sale at some point and then turn on Game Journalist mode options to power through it.

Even if the story is badly written it doesn't matter because it's a god damn video game story. People will take out their sophomore year intro to screenwriting textbooks and slam it against a game like this for weeks, then you ask them what they think a well written story is and they say FF7.

Don't ask me. The developers wanted jiggle physics in the game, no one forced them to add that in. However, the Ethics Department "required" they restrict Tifa's chest for the action sequences. Also, you found plot ghosts possible to take seriously? When the whole game is taking nonsense seriously, I'm sure you would've found a way to be unfazed by the jiggling boobies just fine.

Apparently Tifa's smaller bust size was supposed to be more in accordance with the character's initial artwork. I'm not saying I'm in favor of censorship, more that I hate how far anti-censorship attitudes go sometimes. Like, yeah it's dumb that Daryl Hannah's hair has to cover her butt in Splash now, but is it really worth getting upset over?

Speaking of which, as far as I can tell FFVII Remake hasn't been nearly as controversial as The Last of Us 2 in spite of featuring similar bait-and-switch moments. And about the time I brought up The Last Jedi in relation to The Last of Us 2, I'm far from the only one who has done so. Though maybe on this board I'm the only one?
