People wanna assume light skinned brothas are soft, gay, and not black enough. Like bitch just because I don't like Wayne doesn't mean I'm not black. Same people that are in interracial relationships wanna measure somebody's blackness.

There's a whole thing about "colorism", which is essentially the idea that light skin people get treated better or seen as better than darker skin people on average, in many different respects. And not just by non-black people.

Which I won't deny cause I've seen it with my own eyes in many different forms. That doesn't mean that light skinned black people don't get profiled or treated badly at all though. The argument is just that on average they get treated better.

Also, this isn't just isolated to black populations either. Similar shit has been seen in other places, such as India as well.

Do they, though? Would them "recognizing their privilege" make anything any better? Is it even actually a step towards improving the quality of living for black communities? Or is it just a petty desire you have to excuse your own lack of opportunities?

Yeah, it definitely happens. I mean, people's perception of other's traits is all a sliding scale. I've even known a white guy who got confused for Korean even though his entire ancestry is European. Subconsciously, people who harbor racist thoughts towards a minority will likely have less and less strong emotional response the "closer" a minority looks to "white". They may still make a point about insane "one drop" rules and such, but inherently most people who harbor racism are reacting to a series of visual cues that they've learned to identify with the subject of their irrational hatred.

This is most obvious when you look at the explicitly racist caricatures back during colonialism. It was important to define a series of exaggerated traits in order to simplify and easily educate what is "them" as opposed to "us".

I dated a pinay once and she told me that in the Philippines, the dark skinned girls were considered ugly by Filipino men but American men loved them. They said the most beautiful women were the short, thin, white looking ones while girls who were taller and darker were only chased by American soldiers. Which worked out for them since they loved American men, but it led to the saying that they were "so dark that Americans like them" or something to that affect.

Kinda strange how the beauty standard is more or less universal across the cultures.

It's racism. You'll see similar prejudice towards people with facial hair in Korea (our Ambassador for South Korea got shit for it.) And people with brown hair in Japan (the president of Nintendo before Iwata hated brown hair, and some schools forced you to dye it black.)
Also gingers are another example.

That's not racism though, those people are the same race, they just look different. It's like saying hating short people (another thing Korea does) is racism.
