Day 2 at the gym. They already stopped checking temperatures at check-in...

There was also a significant decline in mask usage.

Yea I do black coffee in the morning and give it about 30 minutes to kick in before I start.

I'm back to routine but I'm still in a massive sleep debt. Despite 8 hours per night I'm still really tired in the mornings, whereas 2 weeks ago, with 7 hours per night have plenty of energy. The last 2 weeks killed me with the night shifts and 24 hour shifts. I couldn't sleep properly during the day for several of my night shifts, getting like 4 hours tops per day.

I can still work out but I just get gassed quickly. I have another 2 weeks of nights for the last 2 weeks of June but no more 24 hour shifts. I just gotta make sure I drug up properly during the day, with melatonin and benadryl and stuff.

I drink like 64 oz of black coffee a day so it doesn't really charge me up or anything anymore lol

I've decided to pull the trigger and up my cardio from 20 to 30 minutes. Hopefully it'll help me push through this plateau

That's a pretty big jump, it's technically a 50% increase. Why not increase by like 2 min at a time at a regular time period like let's say a week

I usually do my coffee/pre workout and then start in on light exercises that aren't much more than stretching. Like bridges and supermans. Maybe some ab work if I'm feeling it. It gets my blood flowing and also gives the caffeine time to kick in.

Anyway, horrible past week or so. Been stress eating due to all of the events going on. I upped a couple of my lifts marginal amounts so that i feel like I'm at least putting that fuel to some use. That 5 lbs I added to my upright rows isn't doing much but I feel slightly less guilty.

Cardio before lifting -- I haven't found good evidence against this, what do you guys know?

The studies linked on T Nation on the subject had subjects doing hill sprints immediately before leg day. Well no shit you "shouldn't" do cardio before lifting if you do it like that.

What if I run 6 miles, and then 2 hours later I do chest day? Is there any negative effect?

I'd think it just depends on how your body handles it. I know I'd need more than 2 hours rest if I did cardio then weights.

We used to do intense plyo and sprint training in the morning and hit the weights in the afternoon when I played college football. No negative effects from that schedule unless you didnt sleep enough the night before.

Upped the intensity of my workout today significantly. Weighed myself after I got home and I weighed 250.7lbs, I'm going to be working out like this from now on. We'll see how much I weigh when I wake up tomorrow, but so far this is looking like the next best move for me. I wouldn't be surprised if my waist and stomach are a full inch less tomorrow morning.

Noice man

Dang I wish I was strong like you guys, guess I just need to keep working at it

@Billy__Beane I ended up splitting the workout into 20 minutes + 2 minutes, but separated by about 15 minutes. Gonna keep adding 2 minutes and then try reducing the time between them once they add up to 30

Idk why I'll let you know how it goes

Good job. I wish I had enough time to do cardio in the mornings. My two kids and a wife recovering from surgery make it impossible to workout twice right now. And my weight sessions are too long and intense to add cardio to.

Day 3 of the gym reopening

This is the 2nd consecutive day without temperature screenings. Also, mask use has plummeted. I only saw 2 non-workers wearing them.

I'm still readjusting to lifting. Couldn't finish 3x5 @185lbs on squats today. Prior to quarantine, my working weight hovered around 300.

06/03/2020

Resting heart rate: 83

Weight: 250.8

Stomach: 46 inches (down 1/2)

Waist: 44 inches (down 1/2)

After my workout today I'll be under 250lbs. I will take a picture of my scale and post it on my social media. All it took was a more intense workout plan to get me sweating and I lost nearly 2lbs since yesterday.

Broke 18:30 for 5km today for the first time, although admittedly on a very flat track, I can't wait to get back among the Parkruns. Short races have been a lot more fun than endurance running.

I'm tossing up joining a run club once we're back to some semblance of normality.

I just don't think I'll ever be that strong buddy! You should be proud that you're getting back to where you were

I've never been strong like you but I used to be stronger than I am now. I'll be pretty happy if I just get back to where I was back in the day

Which treadmill did you get? After I wore out 2 used cheap junk ones, I got a Sole F63. I'm liking it a lot. Hard not to when my last one had a comically undersized belt designed for walking, shuddered when I put my foot down, and shut off at random times when it overheated.

Yeah, the two I tried before my new one were in that mold. But I ran hard on them anyway and then bitched when they broke. Hoping this new one lasts 5 years. Today officially marks 6 months since I got it.

IMO if you're gonna get a treadmill, at least get a nice one that will last you a while. I got one of these NordicTrack ones that was originally like 800 or 900 on sale for like 500 around black friday time. My entire mini squat rack plus weights plus bench was like 700 total as well, which I got from sears on clearance (4 years ago). The most expensive item is the bench itself actually, I ended up getting a nice one, figuring that would last me forever. The squat rack was cheap, its only got 2 pillars, can hold a max of like 300 lbs. I figured once I actually get to that much weight, I can always squat for reps until my bench catches up, and at that point buy a nicer one.

So I've spent 1200ish in gym equipment in the last 4 years. If I bought gym membership at 20 bucks a month, I would've paid roughly 1000 so far. In 1 more year this stuff practically pays itself off. Now grantid I didn't even use it for years at a time, that changes things but still you get the point.
