Unreal is right, considering that the whole thing involves countless fundamental misunderstandings. The most basic misunderstanding is that most of Jeff Bezo's "wealth" is in Amazon stock, which could tank overnight if stock prices tumbled and therefore lacks the same meaning as cold hard cash. It's one of many reasons why the obsession over others' wealth is all but meaningless unless it involves tangible assets as opposed to something like company stock.

The question then becomes should a founder and CEO of a company own a majority stake in the company he founded and runs today? Or is he magically beholden to turn over his stake in the company -- thus causing him to lose control over said company -- to the general public who did nothing to build that company other than buy products from it?

that's interesting but doesn't seem to be properly to scale. he's using a scale of 1 pixel = $500,000, so you should be able to get the number of pixels by multiplying the number of millions by 2. but then he makes a $50M shape 223 pixels wide which is over double the size it should be.

also using squares makes the relative size of the shapes way off. volume is irrelevant only width matters.

still, it does give a good indication of the difference between tens of millions and hundreds of billions. (and he did get the right width for Bezos at 278k pixels.)

k nm, analyzing it more, it does make sense, and volume is relevant. he's using a scale of 1x1 pixel = $1000. maximum height shapes are 500px tall, which makes a full height column of pixels $500,000, but not everything is full height.

he got the million box slightly too big, 33.62x33.62 instead of 31.62x31.62 (sqrt of 1000 for 1000 $1000 pixels)

the billion box is exactly right at 2000x500 = 1M pixels x $1000 = $1B

bezos is exactly right at 278000x500x$1000 = $139B

etc.

I think the operation of Amazon is more productive for society than a fleet of cars.

If the money wasn't sequestered in Amazon, it wouldn't be operating as well as it does.

Yeah, and the purchasing of big macs isn't any more useful than Amazon buying more fleet trucks or expanding their budget brand.

Is there one that shows this on a worldwide scale?

Yes, Bezos is incredibly rich compared to any average American, but the average American (if you make over $30k/yr) is still vastly more wealthy than 99% of the world.

Hard work, boring safe decisions, and disregard for enjoying life...very little luck other than being born not in America and not in poverty, will get you into the 1% - 0.1%.

How much wealth the actual richest people have is insane. People shouldnt be that powerful and set up other to be in that much power for extended periods of history. But also, you dont want to cap the innovation they help create. Its a difficult problem...theres no real reward for their innovations other than power and respect.

Arguably at a certain point the power and respect they earn holds far more worth than the additional wealth that doesn't serve any kind of purpose.

I was interested in everything they had to say. If only they had an alternate version, set up like a proper article, without all that side scrolling forever to get to the next couple of sentences. I got bored and backed out once they got to the stuff about trillions. I knew then that it was going to go on for a very long time.

I understand the purpose of the scrolling. Helps to really get across the idea of that much wealth for the people who have a hard time with the concept. But at some point there needs to be a "Ok... I fucking get it. Just show me the rest of what you have to say" link to a proper article.

The issue isn't so much socialism or capitalism; it's the fact that our resources, our collective output, are being siphoned (stolen). Everything in our society is a data structure of inputs and outputs, and the way it's being run is horrific. [Cult of materialism]

Blaming the opposition from each side, from behind the curtain, has been an extremely effective method of brainwash and maintaining control for hundreds/thousands of years.

This goes back to ancient history. We pretty much live on a slave planet. If people were aware (awake) of what they've been doing to us and how much of our potential is deliberately held back, we would unite like never before.

DBS will probably call me a QAnon nut now, because that's what he does even though all I did was mention it in one post.

It's easier to point fingers at people instead of confronting what's hidden from us. But I believe humanity is good, when not deceived by the illusion that everything needs to be a fight for survival.

Pretty much. There's absolutely no tangible increase in quality of life going between having $20 billion and $21 billion. When you get up to that scale of wealth, you're making more money purely for the sake of making more money, not because additional money serves them any sort of purpose.
