Not much higher, Portal is a work of genius while Portal 2 just does a bunch of small improvements from its mechanics. The story is about in the same level, too. But being better than Portal is enough to be a great game. I think the biggest thing in it are the gel mechanics. azuarc 04/25/20 12:09:57 PM #15:	When Portal 2 came out, a lot of people were cynical about it because the puzzles were often very limited in scope -- you often just looked for where the white panels were and asked "what can I do with these?" rather than it being completely open-ended. Those same people were usually very down on the story, though, and saw Portal 2 as lacking in innovation. Years later, I don't think anyone really still has that take. Probably because Portal 1 was so long ago that people barely remember it in a way that distinguishes it from Portal 2. There was a sizable media blitz and they released an indie bundle on Steam, the potato pack, in a period when bundles were basically unheard of. At the time, I was an anti-Steam curmudgeon and unhappy with the fact that I had to use Steam at all, so those games are basically the first things in my collection.
